Yes, the pull is very slow and normally I cant even move it.

But the squat is pretty fast for a max.

My max squat which is heavier, is less labored than my max deadlift which weighs less.

I think it's weak hamstrings and glutes. What do you guys think?

You start your second pull about 2 centimeters too early, banging the bar off your thighs and forcing you to chase it forward. Happens on both lifts, which suggests it's a habit and not just a technical glitch. You might try segment pause pulls, with the focus on finding that sweet spot on your upper thigh to launch from. Mark the spot with chalk, and either film yourself or have someone watch you and provide feedback. Drill until you're hitting that spot consistently.

OK, you're right in that it's probably only the case for some people.
For example hip height changes a lot for me. I can certainly not clean pull 230kg, but I can deadlift it without too much trouble.

Had a very interesting training session today. Snatched up to 100kg, cleans felt awful so coach had me move on to squats. Was just planning on a moderate 5x5 at 130kg, but they got eaiser as the sets went on so I got told to go up.

Ended up with (130/5)5, 140/3, 150/2, 160, 165, 167, 170 for a post injury PR.

Clean pulls actually felt good, unlike cleans, and ended up with (120/4)2, (140/3)2, (160/2)2, (180/1)2, and a 191 PR. Got a decent pop all the way up to the 160 sets, which was nice.

Very odd second wind kind of thing during the squats, was kinda nice.

I saw Lu Xiaojun at a grocery store in Houston last week. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Something kind of strange happened the other day. Was lifting at another gym that has squat stands rather than power cages, and no mirrors in front of them.

When I lift in a power cage my squats are generally hard and fairly ugly, lots of torso lean, sometimes end up folding forward, etc. But outside a cage, they were perfect. Tried the same thing when I lifted back at my regular gym, where instead of front squatting in the cage I cleaned it and did a few reps. Every single one was easy and I hit 8 reps (probably had more in the tank) at a weight I normally have trouble hitting for 3.

I'm guessing there's some proprioceptive interference with actually being able to see yourself, even in peripheral vision. tl;dr squatting in a powercage fucks my form up

Hi /owg/, I want to include oly lifts in my strength training and need your advice.

2 days volume upper/lower

Triples are fine, but you'll likely be using such a low weight compared to your squat (right at the beginning) that you could aim to do more, it's not like you will be able to properly power clean a weight that will fatigue you for quite a few sessions at least.

You might be able to muscle up a heavy weight, and that will definitely fatigue you, but once you have reviewed footage of yourself lifting badly then you'll surely change how you lift.

While you are learning how to power clean, do 6-7x3-5 after warming up.

Do 5x3-5 push press.

Once you have a good feel for correct form, then start increasing the weight. Then reduce the volume because it will fatigue you more

How much effect could issues with the pituitary gland cause for gains? I don't think it's a tumor or anything (don't get MRI results back for a few days), and my test levels are fine, but a bunch of my other hormones are a bit off, and there might be other issues.

Is this likely to be effecting my gains, or is it just I'm eating wrong? Been doing SL for around 8 months now, and I got decent gains to start with, but I've been stalled at fucking shit lifts for a fair while now, even though I am bulking properly. Just not sure if I should be looking for a new program, or eating more, or if I just can't help it really, and I'm not sure where else to post this.

I need an advice. As the weight goes up in the clean I progressivly jump more and more backwards. I can deadlift 140 and up to 95kg i can clean with no problem. As soon as I try 97-98 i start jumping back and I have to force the weight back on my shoulder in the full squat position. With 100 or more I simply jump too far back. I also pull it way more high than I need it so even if I don't jump back, 1/2 the bar is gonna squeeze me out. Do anyone had similiar problems. I've been dealing with this for a month. I have 87 kg snatch and I can jerk 105-107kg but the clean is keeping me down.

You should still be able to get stronger, esp as a beginner even with some minor hormone issues. I would suggest you double check your diet, double check your rest, double check your form. Normally the words "eat moor, sleep moar, stretch more" fix a variety of issues. If this stuff doesn't help then go see the specialist. You've got a nice little time before they are available to try to rule out a few possible causes before you see them. And time spent on rest, diet, mobility, and form is never wasted anyway.

When I was squatting 3x a week it was enough volume that sometimes the next day I would have aches in my knees. All I did was lay off and let it heal itself until it went after. I recommend doing the same. Leave it alone until it goes away because doing more squats is just going to aggravate it.

Feet moving one or two inches back in the clean isn't a bad thing.

Draw a line on the floor with chalk and start your lift with your toes against it, focus on keeping the extension as vertical as possible. As long as you're stable in the catch it's not really a problem.

I'll definitely crack down on diet, but I am still gaining weight, so I assume it's somewhat okay, a lot of what I eat is meat, and I do drink a protein shake too. Form isn't the best, but not so abysmal that I shouldn't be increasing at all, I'm not getting any pains from lifts, which I do with shit form.


I will work on those things though, just kinda worried that there's not much I can do about it, would suck to be left in a situation where lifting was going to be incredibly difficult to do anything with. But you're right, it can't hurt to work on those things.

So, has anyone here had slow progress and stuck at it? Everyone here seems to snatch bodyweight in a month

Been concentrating on oly lifting for maybe 4-5 months now and Max 75kg snatch at 78ish bw. Did a local meet just for the experience and watching the videos my snatch still looks very ropey

Very demoralising desu that I'm not taking to the sport easily, I'm used to track/field type sports and I've never really had an issue at being atleast locally competitive in them

I know I'll get the bullies telling me I'm shit and to quit but in all seriousness is there anyone half decent here who really struggled at first?

In snatch the tecnique is by far more important than the strenght. Strenght will kinda always grow faster than your tecnique. Focus on that. I've watched a lot of video, tried to mimic the tecnique of the best weightlifters. Try to change the grip width untill it fits you. Do muscle snatch to the parrallel as warm up, try to drain strenght from the hip in the power position rather than from the acceleration you get while deadlifting the bar up to your hip.

Been weightlifting 8 months, snatch pb is 72 at 85 bodyweight (im also 190cm).

I have a terrible squat though, only 134kg, and i really struggle to get power into the extension. According to the old Russian lifting manuals my snatch should max out around 80 so i don't think i'm doing too bad.

I feel that. I'm 6'1 and weighed in 78 at first meet. According to Russian manual my snatch should be nearly 100 (155ish bs) or 90ish based off front squat

I know my technique sucks tho I power all my.snatches I just can't catch deep, was told by a national staff coach he thought it maybe be a mobility issues

I used to always have issues catching high. It wasn't mobility, just shit technique.

I was cannoning the bar out front and ripping it back over my head with my arms, so my weight would be way back on my heels and my hips would lock up.
