oh my. poor mattie :(
no wonder she looked so distressed after that lift. she usually looks happy and smiles even if she fails. at least espn3 cut to a shot of her upper body when it happened
if i was there mattie could have pissed on my face ahead of the lift and this incident could have been avoided. r.i.p. mattie's panties
not known yet but well find out next week probs.
pull or deadlift, cause like pull w/ dece extension/speed i could see but slow af deadlift life pull is wack
Yes, the pull is very slow and normally I cant even move it.
But the squat is pretty fast for a max.
My max squat which is heavier, is less labored than my max deadlift which weighs less.
I think it's weak hamstrings and glutes. What do you guys think?
You start your second pull about 2 centimeters too early, banging the bar off your thighs and forcing you to chase it forward. Happens on both lifts, which suggests it's a habit and not just a technical glitch. You might try segment pause pulls, with the focus on finding that sweet spot on your upper thigh to launch from. Mark the spot with chalk, and either film yourself or have someone watch you and provide feedback. Drill until you're hitting that spot consistently.
Because being a fat fuck that can barely power snatch his own bodyweight is preferable.
what is your problems? i am asking why he looks gay if he has said he is not gay.
and he does not lift more than me that is a joke. he lifts as much as girls i have worked with at same weight
probably starting with hips too low
OK, you're right in that it's probably only the case for some people.
For example hip height changes a lot for me. I can certainly not clean pull 230kg, but I can deadlift it without too much trouble.
Andy Bolton discusses it at length here
should be said though that you have lifters like Koklyaev and Hall who basically do a clean pull, so you're right, that was kind of dumb to make a blanket statement like that
I'd say Eddie Hall deadlifts like he's about to do a clean pull even though 98% of other lifters don't.
also depends on lifting shoes, watch massthetics differentiate between the two
in flats he does a typical conventional deadlift
in lifting shoes the mechanic totally changes and looks like a catbacked clean pull
who gives a shit about what a powerlifter do? we're here at owg, everything is only relevant to weightlifting
clean pull should be the same exact way you would clean, nothing more
deadlift depending on background would be stronger than clean pull most of us started some lifting before doing weightlifting and familiar with a different style dl
yuropoor i bet i'm stronger than you
tell me about kendrick. why does he do the salute?
weight should be midfoot squatting most likely
there is some people who pull with weight through front of foot when cleaning or snatching, a little more room for personal preference
the cameraman for this shoot was so fucking obnoxious, he would place his camera a foot away from you while you're trying to lift
good thing no one had to run forward while he's filming or he'll be crushed. he didnt ask for permission either he'd just film anyone that looks interesting sometimes he'd go up to you mid lift with his camera in your face like wtf bro
is jon north retarded?
serious question. he's always come off as a dumb guy to me. in his blog posts, interviews, and general behavior. just fucking dumb. he looks the part too. the kids in the slow class have the same look jon does.
jesus fucking christ
i am literally speechless, bud chruniga or whatever your name is: you are one of the lowest human who ever had the misfotrune of breathing the air we all breath.
this was one of the most disgusting, enraging, insulting and absurd piece of wirting i've ever read.
i urge everyone to read this and despair , that there are humans such as that and the cunt that posted this.
reading feminist bullshit, devaint art fanfiction, mein kampf, a bible in chinese withouth knowing the language, all would be better than having to read that piece of work you just posted.
im so fucking mad right now, bud churniga i fucking hate you, i hope all your life is misfortune and you rot in hell with everyone you know or have ever talked to.
im fucking disgusted i am breathing the same air.
i think alot of you should look at how this guy trains.
he was coached in goyang in korea. hes still a beginner but still maintains decent form and tempo. he sometimes loop but its still snappy.
no. does not look good. i'll take ellen kercher, julia schwarzbach, and mattie's soiled singlet over her. this is a fact and you can not prove me wrong scientifically and/or objectively ever in any way
what was it? You read all that shit? I just read the first paragraph and gave up because citing philosophical treatises in a blog post made me laugh too hard to continue
wait, nearly a year difference between the snatch vid and the deadlifts? It seemed like he was struggling with the 1pl8 deads but doing 40kg power snatch with ease 9 months ago
For those of you who lift less than/as much as/close to OB despite weighing more it's completely fine as long as you've been training as long as he has (which is almost a year and a half). You're still a beginner. Unless you have a shit coach you'll outlift him.
post competition drinking. she is drinking while underage
because he wont be a junior by the time Junior nats comes along
Daniel Frankel, the guy who took 1st place in the 69 today.
post urs n maybe ill follow u :^)
hit 78 @ 65.1 td
Also, fk the doc becaus they only want to go in an sew the meniscus. But they have no idea about fixing stabilizers and muscle connection. Docs in Norway is powerty because of free health care = No pride of work
that's not even true, doctors are perhaps the best among us all
you probably need the meniscus sewn up anyway, you are still young and it will likely help, what you need AFTER that is rehab with a spots doc
ITS 72 YOU MORON REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
will this make me a better weightlifter?
yes, this is called warming up. It has been done for ages and in every sport, probably even pro ping-pong. Stretching can also be as effective for muscle building as resistance training, do it.
who needs a foam roller right?
2pl8 powerclean @70kg. depth was kinda on the edge tho. comp on saturday
yes she did. on her first C&J attempt
>mattiecakesssss I figured I should address this. I came for one reason: records. I did not come to win. At this point, it is me against records at these national meets. That's all I care about. Yeah medals and titles are great, but that's not what I'm after. It was my last chance for any junior records. We knew the risks coming in: I would be tired, I wouldn't be recovered, blah blah blah, but we had to TRY. And I gave EVERYTHING I had. Everything. And I didn't have that much to give after a long week at worlds and a long year of competing in 3 international and 4 national meets along with local ones. No excuses, it just wasn't my day. My body wasn't there, my mind wasn't there, so the lifts weren't there. I felt 100% exhausted and did my best to block it out and push through despite missing 3 different warm ups in the back. Opening lower was not the purpose of coming. I decided not to clean and jerk because I knew I couldn't pull out a 128 which is what I needed. Anything else would have just been extra training for me after missing all my snatches. Am I upset? Fuck yeah. Will I get over it? Of course. Will I come back stronger? Hell. Fucking. Yes. This is just a bump in the road, everyone's gotta bomb sometime in their career, shit look at half the Chinese men's team a worlds. I'm just glad I got it out of my system now. On to the next one. Well actually no..... Time for a week off. Yeah @camargo_oly it's actually happening this time #HeadDownEyesForward
Not trying to hate, just want to know. The camera is just at a similar angle to the only mirror in my gym near a squat rack so it's really hard to tell if I hit parallel. Relax man.
yeah, you see female powerlifters do it too every now and then, it's to do with the structure of women's pelvic floor muscles iirc, something something when they are exerting max effort, their bladders can get forced to empty, something something no prostate
Had a very interesting training session today. Snatched up to 100kg, cleans felt awful so coach had me move on to squats. Was just planning on a moderate 5x5 at 130kg, but they got eaiser as the sets went on so I got told to go up.
Ended up with (130/5)5, 140/3, 150/2, 160, 165, 167, 170 for a post injury PR.
Clean pulls actually felt good, unlike cleans, and ended up with (120/4)2, (140/3)2, (160/2)2, (180/1)2, and a 191 PR. Got a decent pop all the way up to the 160 sets, which was nice.
Very odd second wind kind of thing during the squats, was kinda nice.
I am that 140 squatting big cunt. I did not hate on oly boi. I am not a weightlifter/powerlifter, I play sport and don't get a lot of opportunity to work on my mobility, you manlets will still learn eventually
she's retarded, going after records blah blah blah. dont compare yourself to lu xiaojun they actually get compensation if they break world records, more than medalling at worlds which is why they compete the way they do at the world stage
yeah that final cj attempt looked really good, you're gonna have it soon
good job on quallifying for nationals aswell, especially seeing how they upped em a fair bit a couple months ago
ya my lost comp i only did 243 and the plan this time round was to do 115/148 or 118/145 but i only made 113 so i opened at 138 to get a total in then jumped to 150 and hit it so i had an extra that i ddidnt even feel like taking lol
this is where she compared herself to lu >>35154089
lmao that statement is just her stressing she wants to break junior records while she still has the chance. she already has broken junior records, she just wants do it again. only brought up the chinese to say far better weightlifters than her have bombed and she won't treat bombing as an impasse lmao
I got to meet Lu Xiaojun after the worlds. He was at NASA looking around.
really nice guy. He can speak a little english.
Do you get lower when you jerk lighter weights? Hits hard to tell without seeing your feet but you look like you have a little more room there
Kek, I stick my tongue out sometimes and look like a retard generally
This was like the first session where I didn't get so low i think. I'm kind of surprised.
clean looked alright, bent arms is still nono.
you wait a pree long time between clean and jerk
hips shit a bit back when you catch jerk, head pos looks dece
your dip in the jerk is not controlled, the bar drops and hits you then you try and push back off that which adds problems when trying to add vertical velocity to the bar
>clean looked alright, bent arms is still nono.
Yeah definitely needs sorted out
>your dip in the jerk is not controlled, the bar drops and hits you then you try and push back off that which adds problems when trying to add vertical velocity to the bar
I'm going to need to figure out how to fix that then
Kind of chilly
I saw Lu Xiaojun at a grocery store in Houston last week. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
The state has better use of the funds, comrade!
Something kind of strange happened the other day. Was lifting at another gym that has squat stands rather than power cages, and no mirrors in front of them.
When I lift in a power cage my squats are generally hard and fairly ugly, lots of torso lean, sometimes end up folding forward, etc. But outside a cage, they were perfect. Tried the same thing when I lifted back at my regular gym, where instead of front squatting in the cage I cleaned it and did a few reps. Every single one was easy and I hit 8 reps (probably had more in the tank) at a weight I normally have trouble hitting for 3.
I'm guessing there's some proprioceptive interference with actually being able to see yourself, even in peripheral vision. tl;dr squatting in a powercage fucks my form up
powerlifted for 2 years, did exclusively low bar in exclusively cages. I never thought of that, but it explains a lot. tbqh I absolutely hate squatting in cages, but that's the only option at my uni gym which is otherwise perfect. cheers, given me something to think about
Because this forum isn't about sharing experiences and learning from others;it's about shit-posting and waifus.
personally I snatch more than I OHS mostly because I never train it. I'd probably only OHS if my program told me to, and then I'd just do the setxrep scheme it suggested
Hi /owg/, I want to include oly lifts in my strength training and need your advice.
2 days volume upper/lower
squat 1x3, 1-3x1-2
bench 1x3, 1-3x1-2
power clean 3x3
deadlift 1x3, 1-3x1-2
push press 3x3
pull/chin ups 1x5
Is 3x3 a good rep/set range to start with? Of course I'm starting with low weights and I do more warm ups sets as usual to learn form. what do you think?
pls help me
Triples are fine, but you'll likely be using such a low weight compared to your squat (right at the beginning) that you could aim to do more, it's not like you will be able to properly power clean a weight that will fatigue you for quite a few sessions at least.
You might be able to muscle up a heavy weight, and that will definitely fatigue you, but once you have reviewed footage of yourself lifting badly then you'll surely change how you lift.
While you are learning how to power clean, do 6-7x3-5 after warming up.
Do 5x3-5 push press.
Once you have a good feel for correct form, then start increasing the weight. Then reduce the volume because it will fatigue you more
when your starting out you cannot power clean alot cuz your form iz shit so your probably going to be starting out with baby weight. you can do more sets and reps on baby weight
Repost from QTDDTOT
How much effect could issues with the pituitary gland cause for gains? I don't think it's a tumor or anything (don't get MRI results back for a few days), and my test levels are fine, but a bunch of my other hormones are a bit off, and there might be other issues.
Is this likely to be effecting my gains, or is it just I'm eating wrong? Been doing SL for around 8 months now, and I got decent gains to start with, but I've been stalled at fucking shit lifts for a fair while now, even though I am bulking properly. Just not sure if I should be looking for a new program, or eating more, or if I just can't help it really, and I'm not sure where else to post this.
So i have developed quadriceps tendonitis from squatting every day... What do i do fit? Do i have to stop squatting?
Found the same desu mate. Now I never like to lift in front of mirror. My gym has 3 cages but I usually squat from stands on the platform facing the other way. Plus overlooking the cardio classes while I squat is fun.
Kek, I wish it was something like that, but I get your point. Where would be the appropriate place to ask this stuff? My GP has no idea really, and I can't see an endocrinologist until early next year.
I need an advice. As the weight goes up in the clean I progressivly jump more and more backwards. I can deadlift 140 and up to 95kg i can clean with no problem. As soon as I try 97-98 i start jumping back and I have to force the weight back on my shoulder in the full squat position. With 100 or more I simply jump too far back. I also pull it way more high than I need it so even if I don't jump back, 1/2 the bar is gonna squeeze me out. Do anyone had similiar problems. I've been dealing with this for a month. I have 87 kg snatch and I can jerk 105-107kg but the clean is keeping me down.
Only joshing lad.
You should still be able to get stronger, esp as a beginner even with some minor hormone issues. I would suggest you double check your diet, double check your rest, double check your form. Normally the words "eat moor, sleep moar, stretch more" fix a variety of issues. If this stuff doesn't help then go see the specialist. You've got a nice little time before they are available to try to rule out a few possible causes before you see them. And time spent on rest, diet, mobility, and form is never wasted anyway.
When I was squatting 3x a week it was enough volume that sometimes the next day I would have aches in my knees. All I did was lay off and let it heal itself until it went after. I recommend doing the same. Leave it alone until it goes away because doing more squats is just going to aggravate it.
Feet moving one or two inches back in the clean isn't a bad thing.
Draw a line on the floor with chalk and start your lift with your toes against it, focus on keeping the extension as vertical as possible. As long as you're stable in the catch it's not really a problem.
I'll definitely crack down on diet, but I am still gaining weight, so I assume it's somewhat okay, a lot of what I eat is meat, and I do drink a protein shake too. Form isn't the best, but not so abysmal that I shouldn't be increasing at all, I'm not getting any pains from lifts, which I do with shit form.
I will work on those things though, just kinda worried that there's not much I can do about it, would suck to be left in a situation where lifting was going to be incredibly difficult to do anything with. But you're right, it can't hurt to work on those things.
So, has anyone here had slow progress and stuck at it? Everyone here seems to snatch bodyweight in a month
Been concentrating on oly lifting for maybe 4-5 months now and Max 75kg snatch at 78ish bw. Did a local meet just for the experience and watching the videos my snatch still looks very ropey
Very demoralising desu that I'm not taking to the sport easily, I'm used to track/field type sports and I've never really had an issue at being atleast locally competitive in them
I know I'll get the bullies telling me I'm shit and to quit but in all seriousness is there anyone half decent here who really struggled at first?
I read about that yesterday and I was willing to try today thanks bro, most of my pulling strenght comes from the hit I give with my hip since I have rather short arms and I can extend in the power position
Alredy tried with the line but the problem is that it's more like 15-20 cm jump
In snatch the tecnique is by far more important than the strenght. Strenght will kinda always grow faster than your tecnique. Focus on that. I've watched a lot of video, tried to mimic the tecnique of the best weightlifters. Try to change the grip width untill it fits you. Do muscle snatch to the parrallel as warm up, try to drain strenght from the hip in the power position rather than from the acceleration you get while deadlifting the bar up to your hip.
Thanks for the responses lads
I had a look at an old thread on reddit (inb4) and the answers there seemed more honest, everything from first time to over a year
I was told by a former national champ that 70kg after about 5months was quite good but all the stuff here makes me feel bad usually. Guess I should get off 4chin
Been weightlifting 8 months, snatch pb is 72 at 85 bodyweight (im also 190cm).
I have a terrible squat though, only 134kg, and i really struggle to get power into the extension. According to the old Russian lifting manuals my snatch should max out around 80 so i don't think i'm doing too bad.
I feel that. I'm 6'1 and weighed in 78 at first meet. According to Russian manual my snatch should be nearly 100 (155ish bs) or 90ish based off front squat
I know my technique sucks tho I power all my.snatches I just can't catch deep, was told by a national staff coach he thought it maybe be a mobility issues
I used to always have issues catching high. It wasn't mobility, just shit technique.
I was cannoning the bar out front and ripping it back over my head with my arms, so my weight would be way back on my heels and my hips would lock up.
I sometimes do let the bar get away during first pull which doesn't help but generally I've been told my pull is decent and I'm not really a bar banger. I think it's a combination of the two things probably, my lack of t spine and hip mobility doesn't help from the floor and I'm often better from the hang
