I wish I could take back years of poor dental hygiene. My teeth aren't relly that bad, they are between yellow an of colour. Far from really yellow but not really white either. I smoked a lot and ate tons of sugar and didn't brush every day.

I'm amazed at the amount of people that just don't know proper dental hygiene and cleaning techniques. My parents were assholes and never taught me so I just did the generic brushing thing once or twice a day late into high school. Only ever took me to the dentist if I had a severe problem. Once I got the fuck out of there I found out about all the shit they never taught me. I'm pissed to day the least. However after learning how to do those things right life has improved drastically. Not just for dental shit either.

-When you floss, which should be once or twice a day, it will bleed at first if you are not used to doing this. That is because your gums are fucking weak. It will stop bleeding after about two weeks of proper care.

-DON'T USE ABRASIVE SHIT ON YOUR TEETH. Baking soda will whiten, yes, but also scrub your enamel away to nothing. Use soft bristle brushes.
-Whitening is a process that starts with proper care. If you have an issue with stains, which I very much had, they have pastes/ floss/ rinses specifically catered to that problem. Someone above mentioned an issue with whitening the spaces in between teeth. If you floss well and rinse after it will get rid of those stains. Cheap and or strong strips can hurt your teeth. For maximum results without sacrificing your long term health use gentle formula strips after completely cleaning your teeth. Once you get to the desired whiteness you can switch to a all in one rinse and paste which should also have whitening properties in smaller amounts to maintain the shade, as well as shit for your gums and enamel in higher doses.

I drink coffee and tea all goddamn day and my teeth have never been better. All I did was learn to brush and what I should use that wont end up fucking me up.

I knew a guy that had rotten teeth, mostly the back ones that was due to being on long term steroids in his childhood/teen years. He didn't have dental insurance (preexisting condition, no insurance company would touch him) so he had to rely on dental schools for all of his crowns and root canals. Sometimes they'd just leave a big hole where they drilled because that was all he could afford at the time and he'd go back later to get it filled when he had more money. I haven't talked to him in years so I don't know how it is with Obamacare.

My teeth aren't even that bad but I do have those off white areas due to calcium something or another. I've gotten self concious to the point I try to smile without showing my teeth which is probably making me look really insecure. I thought about going the veneer route and probably will some point.
