Is the only way I can lose weight to either go low carb or eat under 1000 calories a day for the rest of my life?

I'm not unrealistic, I'm really hard working at the gym and I eat well. At the point where I was eating 1000-1200 calories, I could barely function and it still didn't result in any weight loss. Eating closer to a normal amount of calories just seems to make me pile on the weight and inches

I need advice. I'm feeling extremely low about myself as I don't know what else I can do to achieve my goals.

I need to gain 20lbs to be qualify as healthy for my height. I figure I should gain this weight in muscle because I don't want a beer belly or some shit.
How much harder is it to gain weight through muscle growth than eating? If it takes months to gain a few pounds of muscle, just reccomend me cheap foods as a poorfag.

You gotta play around with your calories a bit and see how much weight you gain on them- try scooby's calc and find your calibration factor (read for more in that faggot's website)
As for food, oats, milk, eggs, chicken breast, broccoli, spinach, and green beans are literally all you need. If you couldn't figure out this shit I feel bad for you
