I reached 2pl8 deadlift today.
The weight wasn't a big problem but my grip really failed with a normal hook grip. Even though I dried my hands and the bar before my set I'd still get really sweaty and shitty grip at 4-5 reps.
I was thinking I might have to switch grips when I reached 2pl8, so what's the better option?

Mixed grip.

I use double overhand (different from hook) until 315 when I switch to mixed grip, at 450 I add chalk and 5 plate I add a belt.

Basically don't be a pussy, use mix grip. You don't beed chalk until your heavy. Also do more rows and pull ups and deads to increase that grip.

I recall seeing somewhere a study that confirmed listening to music while exercising reduces perceived pain and lets you exert more effort.

What I'm wondering is what kind of music should you listen to while liftan,

1) music that makes you angry, that's heavy, fucked up sounding, death metal/drill rap etc because it makes you angry and blind to pain
Or
2) music that you really get into the groove of, that you subjectively enjoy, whether it be jazz, Cuban salsa, opera, etc, basically music you get pleasure from, that makes you feel good, release endorphins and reduces the affect of pain on you

Which one makes you more productive and is better for lifting? Are any of you gays willing to experiment and see what works the best?

I would suggest no music or no angry music.

At best something instrumental and chilled.

I find when handling heavier weights form needs to be really good and I need to focus.

Angry music helps me beast through and pleasurable music can make me distracted because I'm enjoying the song.

Also can become used to going for a PR's with certain songs.

A very unhealthy planet.
I've had a tough life and my only escape was food and binge eating my way to oblivion.

Decided to get my shit together, went to a shrink, changed my diet and very recently started exercising.
Got my ass to the gym. Today was my second day.

Guy near by (pungent smelly fucker) stared at me the whole time - look of disgust on his face.

Ignored him and did my workout. But I guess I'm hurt and angry.

He sat close to me, there were bikes he could go to all over the place where he wouldn't have to look at me if that was so displeasing to him.

So why the fuck go next to me and then push on me his feelings of resentment?

Why do that to someone trying to better themselves?

Why does he think he can fucking judge me just because i'm fat. Why is this shit okay? and why didn't i get up, find a drink and throw it in his face. I don't even know.

Also OP. I have two friends, one very skinny and one fatty. Both quit gym because they were both paranoid that people kept looking at them. This is just you guys being too nervous. Most people at gyms only care about looking at themselves. Maybe you should too. Focus on your workout and everything will be fine.

My 10km time is just a few seconds off finally being under 50min, my 5km time is slowly but surely reaching 20min. Who else here finds setting a new running pr infinitely more satisfying than a squat/bench/dead pr?
