I recently lost my job and have been unemployed for about a month. I'm running low on money so there's absolutely no way I can afford a gym membership right now. What can I do to exercise in the meantime? Is cardio really it?

I'm planning on losing a shit load of weight over the next year (340-350 pounds atm) to about 200-220 with a lot of muscle and not much fat. I know, good luck right...
Anyhoo, I vaguely remember a Greys Anatomy episode where a fat lady lost weight for a surgery, she went from fat to not quite so fat. The sudden weight loss made her heart weak somehow and she ended up almost dying.
TL;DR can you get serious health problems if you lose too much weight too quickly? ( I don't care about the skin thing right now)
You can lose weight too quickly, throwing your body out of whack, causing excess strain on your organs (liver and heart specifically), which are already under a great deal of stress from the massive amount of weight it is working under, which can cause them to fail. Typically you die from cardiac problems or renal failure, or you can end up in a position where you are now working with less than you had before (body health-wise) which results in the person no longer desiring to lose weight, only to live a little longer.

Morning gym goers usually fast or have their biggest meal for the day early, what's a rule of thumb for those that may have already consumed 2000-3000 calories that day and workout in the afternoon/evening? Is it a trade off between workout performance and gains/recovery or should it all balance itself out?
