It's so bad that they claim that people with no ability to build the 'aesthetic' physique only need to go to the gym to look like the 'aesthetic' guys.

It's why guys like piana and boston loyd and zyzz are liked and get their following
they're open and honest about their drug use and talk about that shit and the dangers and positives.
The guys who try to play it up as all awesome and shit are oft called frauds and no better then the guys who claim natty.

How much do you think willpower and mental strength come in to lifting? When your running and your mind tells you to stop, you almost definitely can keep going. What about lifting heavy weights?

Not much. More related to staying motivated and not quitting than completing a single workout.
Still, my willpower is absolute shit tier (no steady job or career prospects, unfinished uni, basically I start 10 things and finish none), but I've been lifting non stop for 2 years now.

FitNotes is pretty good.
But in the end app's are better for visualizing the info, if you want to write down all your assistance exercises it becomes a pain.

If you have to choose one, flat dumbbell press. Personally I'd go for heavy bb bench and finish it off with some lighter cable crossovers to get the pump and focus on the muscle.

So I am just starting out into a fitness regimen for the first time in several years. I read the sticky and am trying to set up a plan for losing around 25 pounds of fat and replacing it with muscle.

Some of the sources I have read say that eating at a deficit and focusing on cardio is a good way to burn off fat quickly, recommending Couch to 5K. However, others say that too much cardio causes you to lose muscle mass. The Rohit Nair Program Picker recommends doing strength training at least 2-3 times a week, which is the number of workouts that is recommended to people just starting out. So should I do something along the lines of Starting Strength, or should I mix that in with cardio-only days?

if you're holding 25lbs of excess fat on your body it means you're eating a shit-ton of excess calories each day. Way above your maintenance. Essentially you're bulking.

You can just do SS or some basic strength program for about 8months and that fat should melt away and get replaced by muscle.

I would suggest lifting 3x a week for a month just to get used to the movements, and then increase to 5x a week. Get a program where you are squatting multiple times per week, like 3 or 4+
