Hey /fit/, I'm going to go to the gym for the first time today with the SS routine. Is there anything I should know that the book didn't tell me? Is there anything the book told me that you think I should absolutely not forget? Also, how do I use the clips, just put them on the end of the barbell and move it down? How long should I wait between sets?

do GOMAD
you'll figure out how to use the clips once theyre in your hands
rest as long as you need to
do accessory movements
>>
>>36618549

Don't do as much weight as you can on the first day. Obviously progressive overload is important to getting stronger, but if you've never touched a weight it's better to familiarize yourself with a movement using a weight you can do for 20+ reps, until it feels less awkward. Some people recommend not going heavy for 4 weeks, but I think that's a bit excessive.

Should I bother learning lowbar if I can highbar fine and comfortably?

I'm on SS atm, don't know if it would be worth switching over for them strength gains
29 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>36618027
High bar works the quads more. Low bar lets you squat more weight, but you are working the vastus lateralis more - not the quads.

I do low bar, because I like the appearance of detailed side legs more than quads, plus you can do more weight.
>>
>>36618027

It doesn't matter if you don't have a professional background in bodybuilding or powerlifting.

Do whatever feels better for you. If you do deadlifts there is literally no need for low bar at all desu

Is barefoot running safe, or is it just a meme?

I want to start jogging, and eventually running, but I'm too poor to afford a decent pair of running shoes.

Don't know if it's unsafe, but it's definitely a meme.
>>
If you're running on soil it's ideal, but you shouldn't do it on hard flat surfaces like pavement.
>>
>>36617840
lt's not a may may, it seems you're too stupid to know what a may may is.

Who /squat more than deadlift/ here?

I had a bad sciatic nerve for a few months that put my deadlift at a standstill, when I started again I had to begin from baby weight to make sure it didn't happen again. it's still catching up.

Current 5rms:
squat 167x5 kg
dl 157x5 kg

>inb4 quarter squats, I do deep oly style squats.
27 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
180kg x 4 with a belt, 1x 180kg raw. Squat
180kg x1 with a beld 170kg raw Deadlift

I just don't like deadlifting, and i don't wanna tear a bicep.
I squat 2 times a week, and i don't want to DL before i squat and im too tired to DL after i squat. So i usually just do 5x1 lightweight once a week.
>>
>>36618065
I know what you mean. deadlifting doesn't feel as good as squatting. Are you tall? I'm 6'2 and naturally sort of lanky, I think that may be causing my deadlift dislike.

I also deadlift after 1x5 heavy squats so that may be why. I found that if I put it anywhere else it's hard to recover in time for the next workout session.
>>
>>36618137
Usually taller people enjoy deadlifts because most tall people come with long limbs

Hey guys, I'm gonna try out creatine for the first time. Any brand reccomendations? I was just gonna get the 1 kg bag of Bulk Supplements brand on amazon. Good choice?

>>
>>36617720
remember to only take 5 grams a day (aprox 2 teaspoons). load/deload is bullshit, just take it every day and you will see results in about a year.
>>
>>36617720
Does creatine do shit? I always thought it was useless just like testo boosters, but i see many people take creatine.

What does it do?

Instead of having chest, back, and leg days, what's stopping me from doing all of it in one sitting, twice a week?
Is "you'll be too tired to do it all man" the only argument? Or is there something like less muscle gaining efficiency going on here?

>>
>>36617617
Yeah, fatigue is the main thing. And don't brush that off too lightly. Nothing inherently wrong with a 2 day full body routine though.

Any college running backs here comfortable with sharing a pdf/txt/whatever of the weightlifting program they had in school?

I got the cardio (sprinting) portion down, just looking for what kinds of lifts they do to supplement that. Google only brings up horse shit results. Thnx in advance

Most of these routines seem to be a bastard child of 5x5 and SS, with some accessories added at the end of the workout for the beach (curls, tricep extensions, etc.).

Hey, anon
Todd Gurley here. In college I did I rigorous program called GOMAD, prescribed by my college coaches, and it really helped me get where I am today
Hope that helps
