I'm thinking about buying a giant bag of white rice and just eating rice like two or three times a day, I have a rice cooker and everything ready to go. I think I know how to fix bodybuilding.
So the big complaint is that modern bodybuilders are too big, and that nobody who looked like Frank Zane or Arnold could win today. Mr. Olympia tried to fix this by adding side contests- the 212 competition, which is for competitors under 212 lbs, and the physique competition, which is focused on aesthetics. but the problem is all the short guys enter the 212 contest and they look as fat and ugly as the tall regular Mr. Olympia contestants. And most the physique bodybuilders can't compare to Arnold's size or aesthetics. Another thing is these are just side contests, they're not also eligible for the main Mr. Olympia competition. In the 70s the lightweight and heavyweight mr olympia's competed against each other for the ultimate title.
How to fix it: divide the contest into 3 or 4 BMI classes, not weight classes.
BMI is your height by weight for someone with average muscle to fat ratio, most bodybuilders will be overweight if not obese on the BMI scale, but that doesn't matter. The point is an obese 5' guy will have the same BMI as an obese 7' guy, and their bodies will look similarly proportioned, but weight completely different. Judge similar proportions, not weights.
You have one BMI class for regular weight guys who look like Zyzz and Jeremy Buendia (or even Eugene Sandow), then another class for guys who weigh for for their weight that look like 50s era bodybuilders like Reg Park and Steve Reeves and Joe Weider, then another slightly heavier BMI class for the Arnold and Franco 1970s tier guys, then the heaviest BMI class for modern-type bodybuilders.
Then all four compete against each other for the main championship. That way you'd have to compare and contrast the relative merits of every body type.
