Human body is a wonderful thing. If you break a bone it will heal up with additional bone tissue so its stronger in that particular place and theres less chance for it snap again. Same with the skin. You get scars which are thicker and more dense than healthy skin to avoid damage to the same place. Would this theory work for muscle tissue? If, instead of lifting weights, I would beat the shit out of my biceps and stretch them daily, would the muscle increase in size?

there's a decent track and field club in my city and i want to start training a sport and put all this gained muscle and strength into good use; i love individual sports but martial arts aren't really my cup of tea
i'm 6ft3, 225lb, arm span 6ft3 (idk if that even matters lol) and i'm 21
anyone have any experience with these 2 disciplines? any tips? am i too old to start training it?
Former D1 Discus Thrower here.
The short answer is: Yes, you're too old.
Discus, shot put, and all of the throwing events are extremely technical; they require hundreds and hundreds of hours of very specific and supervised practice to get correct. Just being strong is useless in this sport, as you also need to be incredibly quick on your feet and agile which is why all of the top discus throwers in the world are not JUST big guys, but they can run at the level of Olympic sprinters for short periods of time. If you are realistic about your potential and your goals, then there is no reason to not pick it up and give it a shot. It is my personal favorite event and I still throw once a week just for funsies. Talk to them, see if you can get a little bit of training, and have fun with it!
Also, wingspan is super important. For reference, here were my stats at my peak.
Height: 6'0"
Wingspan: 6'7"
Weight: 215lbs
Furthest Throw: 207'5"
While you may never be at the level of guys like me who have been training since they were 12, you can still get pretty decent. Good luck mate.

I won't go too in depth OP but will relay some tips
You aren't too old, you can pick it up as a hobby now if you want but the training isn't really fun
You'll have to work legs and core, your momentum and torque is dependent on it
Technique is key like this anon said, but you can just muscle the shotput 60 feet like I did in high school (but it's only a 12 pound shotput in HS), but you can't muscle a discus into the field (anecdote: got a scholarship for shotput since I'd just muscle it out 60-65 feet but threw discus only about 120-135' which is literally what an experienced 80lbs girl would throw with moderate technique)
I'd recommend watching some YouTube videos (not expert village) and buy your gear at MF athletic and just work on technique, you can hurt yourself if you start throwing the shotput like a baseball or throw your shoulder out if you pull the shot away from your body.
Anyways I don't know why you'd really want to take up this sport, but like anything if you dedicate yourself you'll have fun.
(Collegiate shotput is 16lbs and discus is 2.2 I think, maybe it's 1.6 I'm not sure)
