If you're completely untrained, then you can run it for a while and make gains while you lose weight. You won't make progress as fast as you would if you were gaining weight. This is the trade off for being overweight. If you aren't completely new to lifting, then you can do either a 4 day U/L split or use a HLM template.

It's not. Once you go so high the ridiculous size of the dumbbells reduces ROM to the point where any benefits dumbbells may have are eliminated. Probably at around 100-120 lbs depending on the make of dumbbells.
