Hey /fit/

I want to start lifting to get some confidence and to commit to something. I just got out of a long relationship and need some distraction.

I'll be starting with SL 5x5 after I find a good gym (loads of crappy ones around). I'm very much out of shape, haven't done any decent sports in about 4 years (just one casual football game a week).

Should I cut? Bulk? Just eat the way I'm eating now? I'm 5'8 and 150 lbs (or 178 cm and 75 kg). Any more tips?

Today was a big day for me /fit/.

After 2 years of injury in my lower back, I finally squatted 140kg for reps this morning. I know that's not a lot, pre injury I was at 195kg, but with the last couple of years going through a lot of physio and slowly building my strength back up, I feel like I'm finally on the road to getting my strength back.

honestly they're about average, most guys have fairly 'narrow' shoulders. shoulder work is all about volume, do standing OHP, seated DB press and lots of lat raises. most guys with good delts seem to dedicate a day to shoulders unless they're on gear.

Please rate my routine, finally switching things up after getting bored of full body 3x a week.

Since my gym doesn't open at Saturdays I have created a PPL/Upper Lower hybrid. It goes as follows: xPPLULx

I've been following liamrosen.com and the modified riptoe program for a few weeks now, and I have some questions that might be idiotic.


I've never found any situp bench that has a 45 explicit degree option. What I'm using is a bench that shows 10, 20 and then it stops showing numbers, but you can put it further up to what I expect is 30 degrees. Am I supposed to use some other bench, or is the gym just bad?


liamrosen.com and the mark rippertoe program contradict each other. liamrosen.com tells you to eat (16-18*(your weight in pounds)), so about 2000 for me, while the program says 6000 calories. What's up?


How is it possible to check and make sure that your back is parrallel to the floor, for exercises that demand it? No one talks at my gym, unless it's a group of friends, and I really do not want to start, so I can't have anyone check for me.

and you. if you can afford it for the love of god go to a proper gym, far more beneficial for your gains. alternatively, you will not be able to do the major lifts with any meaningful weight, although certainly work up to a good 40kg dumbbell bench (20kg each side) or if you're feeling frisky 64kg kettlebell bench if possible

The Press(TM), not really but go for shoulder press with good form
