They aren't that hard to learn. Start with a long stick, then a bar, add some weights. You're not going to injure yourself with 40kg snatches or 60kg cleans practicing technique. Just do a couple of sets before all of your normal workouts.

Record yourself and see how it looks like. It will take some time, but it's not rocket science.

There is literally no correlation between Olympic lifts and "making it". They are extremely technical power based movements that do not lend themselves to seeing large gains in hypertrophy or even that much strength. I'm all for doing them and think they are fun but definitely not a requirement for "making it". The most dyel pathetic looking guys at my uni gym only do oly lifts and unsurprisingly look like shit or are 5'4 Asian children

What is bullshit is 'go hard for 30 minutes'. If you're truly doing HIIT you're not doing a working period of more than 10 minutes. 5 minutes either side to warm up and cool down and that's it.

If it takes 30 mins it's not 'intense' enough and is just regular old interval training.

i doubt HIIT engages type 2b fibres. most likely only 2a. and if you are serious about strength, then doing too much long cardio is actually bad because 2a fibers adapt to whatever you do so you would be biasing them towards endurance instead of strength

serious question.

Is it possible to be huge from lifting heavy
AND
endurance run recreationally at the same time?

The meme is that cardio kills gains, but if I eat enough to compensate for lost calories with running, will you actually lose any of your lifting mass by running? Or is there some secret gain killing meme associated with running that I'm not aware of?

cardio only kills "gains" if you do it before heavy lifting. depending on how much you do it, you won't perform at your 100% because of it.

doing it after lifting is perfectly fine and has only benefits. just make sure you get those extra calories in.

Making a workout routine for my gf. All a woman has to do is not eat like a hog to be sexy, but any advice? If it matters, she's about 5'5 and maybe 100-110lbs. She's thin, but approaching the the border of skinny fat. Basically no muscle.

This has to be stuff she can do at home. Here's what I got for workouts so far:

Calve Raises
Bicycle Kicks
Side Leg lifts (for obliques and a little bit of hips)
Flutter Kicks
Squats
Lunges

Cardio

How many reps/sets should she do? At what frequency do you guys think? I figured the workouts on M, W, F, and cardio Tu, Th, Sa. Sound good?

Mostly because they are pussys. Heavy squatting is incredibly exhausting and most guys don't want to actually work at the gym. Also it's rather easy to do it wrong and hurt yourself.

So I've been doing a calisthenics workout for over six months now and I don't feel like I'm gaining the way I should.

I know my diet could be better (I don't think I eat enough; I'm 5'8'' and 130 lbs), but I think another issue I'm having is that I'm not working out *enough*.

I originally was told that I should always have a rest day between sessions, which means I'd only be working out 3 days a week. I spoke recently to a friend who is getting her degree in Athletic Training and she told me I should work out every day, with one day a week for rest.

So basically, how often should I be doing my body-weight workouts?

How many days you work out depends on your routine. Either you're simplifying what your friend said, or she doesn't know what she's talking about, despite her degree.

If you're doing a fullbody calisthenics routine, you need a day of rest between sessions. If you're doing some kind of split, you can work out two days in a row.

What is your routine and how much are you eating? If you're still 130lbs, it doesn't sound like you're eating nearly enough.

Most days I doubt I get 1500 calories. I have difficulty eating large amounts of food (I feel like I'm forcing myself otherwise), and I doubt eating smaller amounts of high-calorie food would be healthy.

My workout consists of chin ups, some basic shoulder work with weights (handstands make my head swim), pushups, straight leg raises, short bridges, and squats. I usually do two circuits of this, three days a week.

So my workout seems okay, but the diet not so much?

Assuming you're trying to get stronger and put on some muscle, you need to have progressive overload. This means that workouts get harder gradually by adding weight or reps(to a point). With bodyweight, this concept can be tricky to implement, which is why most people recommend weights. If you insist on doing bodyweight, look up some better programs that have some kind of progression. You can workout more than every other day, but don't do high rep full body calisthenics everyday or you might be headed for tendonitis. If you decide to do weights then just read the fucking sticky

when i deadlift, do i need to do it with my back or legs?

i can lift a lot less when i pull it up with my hamstrings. but when i mainly use my back i can go way heavier.

in both cases i have a straight back.
