Nike running shorts, just end at the top of my knee, they rode up when I had layed down on the bench. Didn't have on boxers or anything, I usually wear compression shorts underneath but couldn't find them and just said "fuck it" and went to the gym.
Hey /fit doctors. I get a sharp tearing/tingling feeling in pic related whenever I lift heavy on bench. It doesn't necessarily hurt, it doesn't sting or anything, but it certainly makes me rack it earlier than usual because it is very uncomfortable. It feels like a tendon or a flexor or something. Should I be concerned?

I actually do have a bitch grip. My forearms get more of a workout than my lats when I do pulldowns, but this is a bit different. Feels more like a tendon problem than a strength problem.

Read the last few pages of this thread to get some ideas, it's a local car forum but there will be some info on gyms in there, some which may be close to where you're living
A lot of gyms here are full of people who go to the gym just to tell others that they go to the gym. I would avoid Club 16 and Steve Nash fitness, both are decent enough gyms but always busy and filled with idiots.
Welcome to Vancouver, it's a great place to live if you can afford it, most of the lower mainland is in that aspect.
I want to just embrace aesthetics fully and only lift for that but I can't get past this mental barrier I have where the workout feels useless unless I'm progressing in my big 3 and lifting very heavy.

I'm in a more advanced type of programming for powerlifting that is taking up all my time, each workouts only goal is progressing my big 3 weight and it's pretty intense so I have next to no energy for legit bodybuilding accessories the way I want to, but if I quit this program and just fully embrace aesthetics I know I will lose total weight on my compounds and that fills me with an insane level of anxiety.

If you have never lifted before and are a true novice, 3x5 > 5x5. You'll get just as strong just as fast and stall later with 3x5 than 5x5. 5x5 has its place, but it's not for novices.
Anything will work for beginners. It is just that with most 5x5 programs progression is clearly laid out which is good for beginners since they don't have that bit of knowledge for themselves.
