Gym in a bad neighborhood

Read a guys story online, and he said two guys walked up right towards him as he was looking at them and they robbed him on the spot as soon as he stepped out the gym, the thing is, I probably would've moved, deflected and told them as they walked towards me to back up right now..

Hey /fit/,

My friend wants to join me going to the gym. He has never lifted before and he is just bordering on underweight.

Problem is that he has a major birth defect in his clavicle. His range of motion in his arms is affected by this in a big way. He can't raise his arms above his head, and he can't do OHP/bench/rows without injuring himself. the rest of his arms work fine however, he can do bicep curls for instance.

What would you suggest I give him for programming? He can go to the gym 3 days a week and is a total beginner, but he can't do, like, half of SS's workouts.

Will his shoulders rotate enough to allow him to do back squats? Wide hand position on the bar may alleviate some of that stress if he can rotate his shoulders.
Can he do seated upright chest press?

I'd say put him on a PPL split featuring squats and deadlifts; more important to his gains will be diet. Make sure he eats a shitload of food at all times. That plus heavy compound lifts should work pretty well.

How much should I exercise each day? Currently I go 10 mins on the elliptical at the medium setting and 10 mins doing handgun exercises

I have a physical test in exactly 2 years in order to become a full time firefighter. I already have excellent stamina and good technique but I still look like a dyel.

Is it possible to train for like 5 months hypertrophy then continue a strenght/cardio while still looking big?

The amount of strength you need to be a firefighter is laughably small, you can just bodybuild normally and you'll have it easily. Do some cardio at the side and you got enough stamina as well

I am already a part time firefighter and can tell you when you remove the ceilling with a fire hook while in full gear, it DESTROYS your shoulders. I may have a lot of stamina but I need twice the effort when lifting heavy weights.

I also want to get buff to get a cutie nurse, I am 23 and I look like I've barely touched weights. I am scared of gaining muscle because coach tells me it will only be a drag during my tests and it's better to become athletic and strong instead of big and slow

Yah, the cardio requirement for literally any uniformed service position is also laughable. There's no way you can fuck this up as long as you're going to the gym, lifting and running, at least 2 days a week.

Can I get some sleep advice?

I'd really like to wake up early to work out but I have massive trouble sleeping. I have to take sleeping pills just to fall asleep. It's terrible, my body isn't made for the corporate scheduling. Anyone here have the same problem?

How many days should I wait between bench press sessions?
