Hi /fit/. I am a skinny guy new to lifting. I curl 25 pounds right now. I figure I should be able to wrist curl 25 lbs too, and when I do, I can lift it, but my wrist tendons feel way too tight.

Yes. People look at you differently. People just like you more. It brings out something animalistic in people that they will just subconicuously like you more if you have aesthetics (defined jawline, good physique). Going from skinny to somewhat muscular i have noticed that people treat me better.

So this guy I know from the gym went to weightlifting city cup and won the first place. His lifts were 70kg snatch and 105kg c&j and he was in the 105+ category, I think he was weighting about 110kg. Now, that would be some achievement if he wasn't ONLY ONE at that weight category. I'm lifting more than 60kgs than his total, but I would be weak compared to other guys that showed up and were lighter than me (I could've competed, but I had my club's pre-season training and I'm not registered to any weightlifting club). Not only his lifts were pathetic, he was next to last in total number of competitors and only guy weaker than him was some 70kg newby, and he was pretty close to him. Knowing all that, he still boasts on all social media ("mrcina" means something like badass).
Say /fit/, would you ever compete in any strength competition even if your lifts aren't even half decent? Would you boast if you've won the competition where only you showed up?

Question...obviously you need to eat a surplus in calories to gain muscle, which I believe I do.
But my question is this, if you don't eat a surplus on a workout day and is off by say 200 calories will you still be making muscle?
My guess is yes and it just wouldn't be to full potential.

Idiot, muscles don't care about 1 day, It only matter what you eat over time, so like in a month.
If you went surplus calories in the course of a month you will gain weight, it doesn't matter if you had 1500 cals or 5000 on an individual day, over time it's still more than you burn.
So just make sure you get enough per week/month.

the human body is designed to be smarter than that. given that humans didn't have the luxury of 3 regular meals a day in stone age whatever times, the body learned to distribute the nutrients and calories in complex ways to optimize all that could be taken from food.
long story short, you won't see any difference whatsoever unless you are trying to hit like 5% body fat or something.
I'm a thicc boy. 184cm tall, was 165kg, (74kg muscle mass), over 50% bodyfat.
I'd never tried to diet before in my life. Was content to be fat forever until I died. Girlfriend started crying suddenly during a convo at the start of the year saying she worried about my health so I was like alright guess I'd better do something about it.
Signed up for gastric bypass surgery. Getting it next year in Feb. Saw a dietician a few weeks ago, and she put me on a keto diet. I'm drinking 4 optislim shakes a day, eating 1 microwave bag of vegetables, and taking 1 multivitamin.
That's it. My breath smells like shit because I'm in ketosis though so I'm also constantly chewing sugar free gum. But I'm down to 155kg already only after being on this a fortnight.
You know the main thing I've realised? I used food as entertainment, or at least entertainment enhancement. Fuck I am bored. I can't stand to sit and watch TV or movies anymore because they just feel irritating without something to constantly shove down my throat. And every time I drive past a drive-thru I feel depressed, not because I'm hungry (haven't been hungry since I entered ketosis, it's hard to force the shakes down), but because it seems like fun. Genuine fun. And suddenly driving feels so monotonous because I don't have a nice cold coke to sip on. Oh yeah, I'm only drinking water and soda water for a treat. I used to drink at least a litre of coke a day, and go through 10+ cans of red bull a week.
And I have higher energy, it's easier to get out of bed, I don't feel moody like I used to when I'd get hungry, it's genuinely been easier to go out and walk my dog around parks and shit - she's the happiest she's ever been.
But God I am bored. It's crazy. I go to bed at 11pm like a normo because without junk food there's no point staying up all night. Even video games have somehow become less appealing.

also those shakes are a waste of money, you could replace them with eggs and cheese and probably end up even healthier comparatively
as for the sugar addiction, give it another 2-6 weeks and you should be fine and better-able to be interested in things that aren't food

But then i thought, ahh yes, most of you are american/canadian mixbreeds (not memeing), be it with asians or spics. So you're destined to be short, fragile and just generally physically inferior.
So yes, maybe for you a 3pl8 squat is amazing, but lets be honest here; if you werent hampered by your mom or dads poor choice in mates then this wouldnt be an issue.
