Time for me to get fit, I've read the sticky now what?

I've been coming and going on here for a while, just lurking but never actually doing any lifting. The general impression I get is half the people say that starting strength is the best place to start, and the other half say SS is a meme and to do something else.

So honestly guys, what do I do?


Keep it simple and explain what you mean, somebody saying shit like do a 5x5/3/4/8 split is nonsense to me, help me out here.

I've done a few dumbell curls, ohp with dumbells some shit with kettlebells lately, I joined a gym for a while but didn't know what the fuck I was doing so I stopped going, and eventually when I got the motivation back I started reading shit on here, and now here I am.

5'11" 80kg basically close to zero muscle.

Are there any people here who actually properly ran SS, eating 6,000 calories a day for the whole thing? What do you look like now? Pics would be great.

I want to build more strength before switching to a higher volume hypertrophy routine, but I just binge watched My 600 Pound Life and I don't know if 6,000 calories a day for six months is worth it. I know Rippetoe says time is precious, but I'd gladly overload more slowly if it meant not becoming a fat sack of shit.

I can't see any circumstance in which 6,000kcal a day is necessary. Anyone who ate 6,000kcal a day for 6 months would become a fucking monster (and not in the good way).

You could easily do SS at 3,000kcal or so and receive equally valuable results as long as you eat at a reasonable surplus and get enough rest.

Assuming you are natty, yes, there is a limit to how much muscle you can actually build within a certain timeframe. The exact math is kinda hard to pin down, but the general consensus seems to be that anything more than 500 calories per day surplus is wasted (i.e. will just go straight to fat.). And it may be even lower than that.

So i'm 6'1 and 167 lbs.
My goal is set for august to be lean in body fat and maybe 170 -180 lbs.
I know I can accomplish this.
My gf really wants me to get the "v" abs while I just wanna be strong. I have a really demanding job that rotates 12 hour days and nights with 6 - 8 hours of travel a week. Lack of sleep, tiredness and motivation are something that I obviously struggle with, especially when it's cold out.

So, CUT or BULK first?

Oh and glasses make your eyes weaker. You actually have to actively STOP watching television screens and reading books and rest your eyes.
