Can we have a /fit/bit thread? I've never seen these discussed here, so I assume we pretend to hate them (normies reee etc) but let's skip that for now. Some people I work with claimed to be more active than me, and challenged me to get a fitbit and join their little club to prove them wrong. Buying a piece of technology just to make some other people eat shit seems a little much, but I had honestly been thinking of getting one for a while and they seem pretty neat. Anyone on /fit/ use these? What do you think of them?

I own one of these since September and I really like it. The burned calories tracker for me seems pretty accurate which is a pretty nice tool when bulking or cutting.
Its also kinda motivating when you get all that data about how active you are over the past few months, especially when you are a numbers nerd like me.

I got the charge HR about two years ago. The thing ends up breaking for one reason or another every few months. (bands bubble up, or the back snaps off and wont charge, or random technical error where it stops counting anything or randomly reseting, etc etc)

While it's under warranty, you can get them replaced after running the "have you tried rebooting? no sir.. hold for three seconds reboot" gauntlet with pajeets before they believe you and replace it.

After my (no joke) 4th replacement, i stopped going back. I would love to have a solid one that worked, but I got tired of dealing with it. I loved the HR and sleep tracking features the most.

Hopefully future generations of them will be better. I'm thinking of getting a smart watch, what do you guys think of that?

Buy more small plates. Don't waste money on 45s. Better to have a 25 and two 10s. I you're spending your own money, this is a good way to optimize cost. Definitely calculate everything first.
Other than that, just buy a power rack and an adjustable bench. That's pretty much all you'll need.

Why do some people think strength = aesthetics is a meme? Isn't it basic logic? The reason why I bring this up is because I made a post last night related to this subject, and many people were responding that I fell for the strength = aesthetics meme.

We know the main impetus to muscle growth is progressive overload (more volume over time). If I'm benching 135 for 5x5, I'll make some gains until I stall. I could bump it up to 5x10 for 135, and make more gains, but there comes a point where I'll be working out in the gym 3 hours a day to get in enough volume this way.

If I can increase my 1 RM to, say, 185, then 5x5 will get me more gains. Then rinse and repeat.

Optimize macros, balance them to youe preference

Daily Reminder that the underlying factor of obesity is not calories, its insulin, or rather insulin resistance.

Get to know this smart gentleman, Dr. Fung. His argument is that insulin and insulin resistance are the enemy in terms of obese and he takes a “hard fast” into intermittent fasting approach.

On a very technical level; yes, calories in calories out. But you can increase the efficiency of your body drastically with these methods. It is not how much you eat, it is WHAT you eat. It is not eating 6 times a day to keep your metabolism going, it is eating 1 time a day to keep your insulin levels low.

There are a lot of fat people out there cutting calories and starving themselves to death. They have been set up to fail, the failure rate is astounding and it is the wrong approach. Sure you will lose the weight but you won’t keep it off and you will rebound to an even fatter state. Just ask any of “The Biggest Loser” contestants.

Dr. Fung suggests a fasting period to deprive your body of insulin thus reducing your insulin resistance (or tolerance if you prefer) levels, switching to a fat heavy (or protein), low carb diet, and maintaining an intermittent fast thereafter.

Today I want to open with why processed carbohydrates are bad and natural carbs aren't as bad. Fung explains that fiber is the antidote to toxic carbohydrates. Whenever you find carbs in nature you find fiber. The problem with is that when all these carbohydrates (whole grains, sugars, fruits) are refined they lose most of their fiber and protein. Therefore you are getting the toxin without the antidote which causes the problem. In theory, so long as you're eating natural carbs that aren't refined, you should be good.
