just eat in a slight calorie surplus if you want to build muscle. you will gain a small amount of fat.
just eat in a slight calorie deficit if you want to lose fat. you will lose a small amount of muscle.

if you eat in a 1k+ calorie surplus you will just get fat as fuck. yeah you'll get stronger but the 20 pounds you put on in 2 months is probably 15-18 pounds of fat.
