It's absolutely possible to get in shape doing bodyweight exercises. That said, if you have access to a gym then there's no reason not to use it. I promise you that this is 110% in your head. Nobody actually cares what you're doing so don't sweat it.

i have my motivation (personal health) to keep going and i'm certain that i would be able to keep a routine of GOING THERE, the problem is walking into the door and getting started. what does a beginner do?

When I was 18, I had a fucking baby face even though I ran cross country and track and field (shit ton of cardio) during my whole senior year in high school. I was skinny but had abs, but still had a chubby face and a small jaw (I was at 10 percent bodyfat) . I started lifting the summer before high school and continued until now. As stupid as I sound, I envied the football players who looked like grown men with aesthetic jaws and low bodyfat.
I am now age 22, and I can feel that my facial structure has changed. It might not be due to lifting exactly, but lifting has helped maintain a bodyfat of 11 percent. My jaw has grew and is now more mature looking and it has gotten wider and filled out (grew down and forward). And the baby fat has slowly gone away. My eyebrows have gotten more bushier, and girls tell me that I am pretty attractive. I also have a muscular body with broad shoulders, big back, big arms, large thighs. So, yah.

Yes, due to lifting. There is no 2nd puberty. You get a test boost in puberty the same way you get a test boost from lifting heavy. My cheek bones, brow ridges and jaw line is more prominent. Aging also plays a role.
