Hey guys, I started eating healthy and lifting 4 days/week 4 months ago. My question for the panel is why everyone says carbs are so bad? I have a low bodyfat%, and I need to keep down my bodyfat and build muscle for a model shoot in the nearest future. Should I cut pasta from my diet? :/
Thanks

Carbs in general are unnecessary in the human diet. The only reason we consume them is because they are very common in the foods that we eat nowadays. However, I highly recommend that anyone reading this start weening off of carbs and moving into a pure diet of fats and proteins. This kind of diet is not only healthier, but it also provides just what the body needs if you work out. What I recommend is eating 1 chicken a day (with it's eggs), quarter cup of olive oil, and some gummy fibers if you are concerned about fiber in your diet. I have been on this diet for about the last 9 months and I have seen incredible results in terms of my muscle mass and energy levels.

Repost from the last thread:

I've become anemic after starting my cut and I'm currently doing everything that the doctor said with taking my iron supplement every day with vitamin C and eating a lot of meat to get the blood cells back. Even with all of this though I'm still feeling weak and getting headaches. Shouldn't these symptoms be stopping now that I'm taking everything?

I want to start going to the gym soon but I'm completely unable to with the lack of energy from this. If I keep taking the iron everyday and having a lot of vitamin c will it eventually go away? It's seriously getting in the way of everything for me.

>FAQ

>BUT FASTING WILL CANNABILIZE MUH BICEPS AND ILL DIE

No, it won't. The biggest protein loss comes from (safe) secretions from your intestinal lining and pancreas, which tapers off as you continue to fast.

After a short burst of protein secreted from those organs (around 75 g of protein) -- your body will use about 20 grams of protein, that's about 20 days to waste an entire pound of muscle. Now compare this to the fact that you can lose up to 114 to 159 grams of fat a day and you got yourself a good ratio.

>https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK22414/ <- This is what happens in your body when you fast
>https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26399868 <- Studies of non-obese men during periods of heavy caloric restriction

>Can I exercise while fasting?

You can, but not strenuously. Muscle ketone oxidation decreases after 1 week of fasting, along with decreased overall energy expenditure(page 144-152 of Burstztein S, et al. ‘Energy Metabolism, Indirect Calorimetry, and Nutrition.’ Williams & Wilkins 1989).

>How long is an optimal fast?

Depends on your willpower and bodyfat. Since you likely eat every day, you likely have quite a bit of fat reserves to burn. During fasts, soft fatty adipose tissue lipolysis is known to reach a MAXIMUM within the first week of a prolonged fast as does hepatic ketone production.

>https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/5024045 <- Adipose tissue lipolysis 1 week max
>https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2656155 <- Ketone production 1 week max

If you exercise hard and push for PRs on a 7 day fast you'll essentially accelerate muscle wasting. Just do some light walking.

>Won't I get water poisoning?

No. A healthy male would have to binge on close to 3 gallons of water within a few hours to get fucked by water poisoning.

>Who SHOULDNT fast?

Typically those that are too young, too old (unless you're old and obese), or have muscle wasting diseases.

Whoops,

"
If you exercise hard and push for PRs on a 7 day fast you'll essentially accelerate muscle wasting. Just do some light walking."

should be in the "Can I exercise while fasting" section

and the protein secretion section will burn 75grams of protein or so PER DAY for the first few days, then it tapers down to 20 grams of protein used per day.
>>
>>41532788
>How do I not feel like shit during a fast?

Hunger will come in waves the first few days then get less intense as you progress.

I add over half a daily recommended serving of lite salt to a gallon of water that I sip on throughout the day.

I also take a magnesium supplement to avoid cramps.

If I ever feel like I'm getting acid reflux, I'll add a shot of apple cider vinegar to my autism jug.

I'm 3 days in, started at 198, currently at 191.

I usually down a protein shake and head to chipotle for that sweet chicken burrito after a workout, but it's getting expensive and I need to find some alternatives.

Has anyone run the Russian Bear program by Pavel Tsatsouline? Would it be good for a novice?

A
Deadllift variant:
> today's work weight x 5 reps +
> 90% of today's work weight x 5 reps +
> 80% of today's work weight as many back off sets as possible with good form (maybe 5-25 sets)
Press variant:
> same as deadlift variant
Curls and triceps variant optional.

> 3-5 seconds up for deadlift and press
> 30-90 second rests between back off sets
> 3 or 4 days per week

Progression:
Effective cycles are 8-16 workouts. Start a cycle with 70-80% of your 5RM or a weight you can comfortably do 10 reps. You can increase the weights in a linear, flexible wave, structured wave, or step pattern during the cycle. Linear is +5 pounds per workout. Flexible wave is +5 pounds per workout and decrease weight when feeling tired and then work upwards again. Structured wave is +5 pounds per workout for four workouts and then -15 pounds and then work upwards again. Step pattern is +5 pounds then same weight for a one or several more workouts followed by another increase.

You're right, knowing how to cook is a huge boon for people who enjoy food. I know that some people are very one-tracked/dedicated/whathaveyou and could eat carefully meted out portions of cardboard flavoured cardboard for every meal of the day as long as it meets their macros, and that is very admirable in its own way.
For the rest, knowing how to cook a good meal gives them incentive to stay on point with their diet and sticking to their diets. Having KFC isn't all that appealing if you know you'll be coming home to pick out some chicken breasts that have been marinating overnight, grilling them to perfection together with some bacon-wrapped asparagus and a Hasselback potato.
If you're first having a cheat day, why wouldn't you have a bite of some homemade confectionery rather than some cloyingly sweet muck you can find anywhere?
It doesn't even have to be dreadfully complicated, just search for "how to make your own (food you like)" and before long you'll be flipping your shit all over the kitchen just like Gordon Ramsay.
