I used to swim competitively and win my races when I was in my early teens and then quit to play basketball.

I tried to swim again last week for the first time in forever and could only breast stroke really. The rest of my strokes were pretty shit and got tired easily.

Do I just need to keep at it? Should I consider getting a swimming coach? I was embarrassingly bad at my other strokes.

Any good references on how to learn to swim?

Been doing the reddit PPL for a month but I've seen basically no progress on my bench and overhead press, should i just switch to SS. What weights do I start with and what can i do instead of powerclean

Provided you know how to do the movements, start with whatever weight just barely slows the bar down from its speed on the empty bar set you start with to warm up.

Speed deadlifts (pull a deadlift to lockout as fast as you can) are the best power clean substitute. Be sure to have your back all set and braced before you start an explosive pull like that, though.

I'd probably start speed deadlifts with 50% of your 1x5 Regular Deadlift weight and do either 3x5 or 5x3 on them.

Also, don't forget to eat more. It's never enough.

Are machines (in general) really that bad? All I have is planet fitness for the next month or so, then I'll be switching to LA fitness. Looking to get opinions on whether they're total shit or not.
