You're fooling yourself. Don't feel bad, it happens to everyone but you need to get a kitchen scale and weigh exactly what you eat. Also cream-based soup and salad with dressing can be extremely calorie dense.
You need to get in the mindset of being a fucking sperg about this. Weigh your broccoli. Weigh the oil you use for cooking. Weigh your fucking oregano. I guarantee you, you're eating more than you think.

the time doesnt matter all that much when you consume your proteins, as long as you get enough in a day. i like to have a lot before i exercise, but that's my personal preference
