I'm fucking clueless, trying to lose weight so lifting on deficit and according to symmetrical strength I'm intermediate on some lifts.
I "modified" grayskull LP for my goals and now it's beyond recognition. I've been doing this for 2 months.
Do I need to change anything, add/remove exercises, change rep/set ranges or just find real program?

yep. everytime when i use to smoke weed i would fear going to the gym lifting heavy

switched to just focusing on mind muscle connection using lighter weight with perfect form like every one who has a nice body does. havent looked back, body feels better, its like yoga with moderatly heavy weights. i also started using machines more. its an option if you wanna take a break and get over that fear, the desire to lift heavy does come back

Felt a pop in my lower back doing hack squats

>drove home in pain
>can barely walk
>can't bend over
>currently using frozen chicken breasts as ice packs because I don't want to climb stairs to get real ones

How fucked am I? Is icing/rest enough or do I need to see a doc? Do I need to make a sacrifice to the Lumbar Gods? What pleases them the most?

It is officially summer in the relevant hemisphere. Time to put away those running shoes and break out the swim trunks to partake in the GOAT form of cardio.

Any good swim routines? Videos regarding the different strokes? Not a strong swimmer and want to learn?

Ya man! Recenty picked up swimming again as wel and digging it so far. Never really researched anything about routines and such though, so I don't have much to contribute. Will be lurking and posting interesting stuff I can find in the next hour

I'm cutting right now and I do HIIT in the pool twice a week.

6x50 M sprint with progressively shorter breaks in between. (Use freestyle, fly or back, not breaststroke.)
Another amazing feeling is to just swim a kilometer or two in the pool for moderate intensity cardio.

Don't mean to shoot you down OP but swimming is one of the worst forms of cardio. Typically you need to effectively double the amount of effort you put into running to match the amount of calories you'll burn swimming. However, swimming will give you a better workout and build muscle better than running due to the higher level of resistance.

A few stroke tips:

For front crawl, make sure to be breathing bilaterally. Every three strokes is the typical time between breaths, breathing in for two seconds and out for 4. You want your cheek and ear to remain underwater whilst only your mouth surfaces, so that you remain streamlined in the water.

For breaststroke, you don't want to be pulling and kicking at the same time. For your arms, imagine your scooping out a bowl with the palms of your hands as your bring them together under your chest. Difficult to describe but you should be able to find a video explaining. Once you've extended and contracted your arms, you should kick. Once you've kicked, you should immediately reintroduce the pull. Basically, no part of your part should ever be static for long.

For backstroke, there's not a lot of tips. Only thing I would say is that you need to be turning your palms so that your little finger enters the water first on every stroke.

Finally, recent research has suggested that spreading your fingers slightly into a rake-like pattern is beneficial for front crawl, as the space between the fingers develops a web of water which increases the surface area of the hand and gives you a higher level of propulsion.

Also, don't forget to warm up and cool down. Whilst you won't feel it when swimming as much as you would running, lactic acid buildup can ruin your training. Typically do 200-400 meters of each stroke before starting a session, and half that on a cool down.

Hope I've helped OP, good luck in the pool mate.

Haven't really ever posted here much, but I just wanted to share my /fit/ story with you guys. I'm a former college athlete who had to stop playing my sport pretty early on in my career due to injuries. As a result of losing my sport, I felt that I lost my identity, because it was something that I was good at and something that I had done for pretty much my entire life. Fast forward to 6 months ago: I was in a pretty bad place mentally and physically. I was doing horrible in school to the point where I had to withdraw to avoid failing out. I had been dragging my heels at school for a few years. I was extremely depressed, overweight, had little motivation, smoked weed and drank all the time, and just generally found it hard to do things that normal people do. Some days, I could barely get out of bed. I was essentially >pic related.
I thought it was hopeless and I thought about killing myself to end my problems many times.

Fast forward a few months: I moved home, stopped smoking weed (huge waste of money), drink very rarely, and, most importantly, started exercising pretty often, to the point where I now go to the gym most days and run at least a few miles every single day. It sucked at first, but it felt great to know that every second I was suffering while working out would make me suffer less and less going forward. My self-confidence is way higher, I can think a lot more clearly, and I just generally am a lot happier. I enrolled in some summer classes at my local college, where I am now doing exceedingly well, and I'm on my way to getting A's in both of the classes that I'm in. Cutting down on the smoking and drinking, as well as getting on a more regular sleep schedule, helped me a lot to get out of the rut that I was in; but exercise has definitely been the key to me essentially turning my life around in this short period of time. I love running now, whereas it used to be probably my least favorite thing in the world to do.

contd.

contd.

For anyone who is reading this who is struggling right now and thinking about taking this route to try to better their life, DO IT. It’s too easy to sit around and make excuses, and nothing in this world that’s actually worth getting will come easily to you. You have to be able to take it, and you won’t be able to take it if your lifestyle includes constantly compromising and second-guessing yourself. All you have to do to start is just go outside and RUN.

I literally thought my life was hopeless and over, and was able to completely turn everything around in a few months with just a little bit of effort and mental toughness. I had heard so many times over the years that the way you take care of your body is the way you take care of your mind, and stuff like that, but I thought that was just corny cliché. I thought that I know myself better than anyone, so why should I listen to these fucking people who don’t know me at all? I’m so glad I could prove myself wrong in such a short amount of time.

My question to you, /fit/, is why the fuck doesn’t everyone do this? Why do people continue to sit around and wallow in their self-pity, when the answer to their problems is right in front of their noses? If I can do it, literally anyone can.

Hey, /fit/, are any of those ab benches worth a shit? I really don't know anything about this, and don't really have enough free time to dedicate going to the gym for just this.
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>41891848
ab benches aren't necessary at all unless you are a shredded fucker who needs his ab exercises to be extreme.
>>
Completely unnecessary. If you are going the home gym route, invest your money in a good power rack and flat bench instead. There is no necessity for any machines that are for ab workouts alone. Maybe an ab wheel if you really want to.
>>
they are one of the very best exercises you can do for your abs. They don't strain your back as much as flat crunches or ab machines and you can add a lot of weight while some ab exercises become absolute after beginner level.

However abs in general are low priority and you should really only think about it once you got your pullups, ohp, diddies, squats, benches and covered.
