How much weight is /fit/ referring to when they say "1pl8"? There are plates that go up to 35kg in my gym. I assume "1pl8" means 25kg though. Is that correct?

1pl8 refers to a 45lb plate on each side of a 45lb bar.
25kg and 35kg = 55 and 77 pounds for the burgers btw.
1 45 lb plates on each side of the bar so 45 + 45 + 45 for the bar = 135 lbs

Some guy gave me (unsolicited) lifting advice a couple minutes ago and told me i wobble too much and the fix to this is to stagger your stance and bounce on your legs to get the bar all the way up.

I've had multiple friends ask to start going to the gym with me. Every time they come for a couple weeks then start sporadically missing workouts then drop it entirely within the month. And when they do show up it practically doubles my workout time. Still, I'd love to have a gym buddy :'(

I'm on my third day of trying to lose weight. My start weight was 168 and I'm down to 163 now, but I'm assuming all of of that is just wafer weight.
I'm eating at a huge defecit, consuming about 500 a calories a day at most, probably more towards 300.
I don't feel hungry because I'm drinking a huge amount of water.
My goal weight is 140, may seem a bit extreme but Im basically the definition of skinnyfat, there's almost no muscle on me at all.
When I hit my goal I plan on lifting and starting a beginners lifting program and sticking to it.
Do you think it's possible for me to go from 168 to 140 in 9 weeks? I'm at 163 in 3 days, but I'm pretty positive that's all water weight that I'll gain back immediately

it's something this board does not like to accept but gym strength =/= functional strength. an average guy on the street will not actually be significantly 'weaker' than a guy at 1/2/3/4, there won't be much in it. doing specific compound movements does increase your overall strength, but not as much as most of you like to think it does. if the average guy has even a basic understanding of self defence and the lifter does not, the lifter will lose.

If you've taken some martial arts and know how to throw a punch and a kick you'd do very well.
If you haven't, it's hard to transfer that strength from lifting into actual strength. It takes practice and if it's your first street fight you could also hurt yourself from bad form. Fighting is actually a pretty fucked up thing to do to your body, our fists weren't really meant to break and bones or anything cool.
