Researchers have tested the effects of types and timing of protein supplement ingestion on various physical changes in weightlifters. In general, protein supplementation pre- and/or post-workout increases physical performance [31-34,38-41], training session recovery [32], lean body mass [33,38-41], muscle hypertrophy [35,38-41], and strength [31,33,38,40,41]. Specific gains, however, differ based on protein type and amounts [31-36]. For example, whey protein studies showed increases in strength [31,33], whereas, supplementation with casein did not promote increases in strength [34]. Additional research is needed on the effects of a protein and creatine supplement consumed together, as one study has shown increases in strength and LBM [33].

With this in mind, an ideal protein supplement after resistance exercise should contain whey protein, as this will rapidly digest and initiate MPS, and provide 3–4 g of leucine per serving, which is instrumental in promoting maximal MPS [29,30]. A combination of a fast-acting carbohydrate source such as maltodextrin or glucose should be consumed with the protein source, as leucine cannot modulate protein synthesis as effectively without the presence of insulin [27,28] and studies using protein sources with a carbohydrate source tended to increase LBM more than did a protein source alone [33,37-41]. Such a supplement would be ideal for increasing muscle protein synthesis, resulting in increased muscle hypertrophy and strength. In contrast, the consumption of essential amino acids and dextrose appears to be most effective at evoking protein synthesis prior to rather than following resistance exercise [47]. To further enhance muscle hypertrophy and strength, a resistance weight-training program of at least 10–12 weeks 3–5 d .wk-1 with compound movements for both upper and lower body exercises should be followed [31,33,35,36,38,40,41].

Hello /fit/ !

So at my job we have a little gym. Quite cool, and I realize it's not common to have such convenience. So I can, theoretically, attend gym everyday.


I was thinking... What do you think of the One Punch Man trainning regime (pic related) ?

It basically consists of the following:

1. 100 push-ups
2. 100 sit-ups
3. 100 squats
4. 10 Km on the treadmill

All of this everyday. Right now I am moderately chubby. A bit overweight, but not obese. I do not loathe myself, and my girlfriend is okay with my body, but I honestly never seen abs on my belly, and would like to change it.

What is you opinion, /fit/ ?

To save time at the gym i was thinking about doing isolation exercises inbeween my rest period for my comound sets ex: Curls while resting for squats, Lateral Raises during deadlifts. No muscle group that will interfere with the compound exercise but add alot more volume to my workouts.

Look into brian alsruhe style giant sets. They are a great way of saving time and building conditioning but if you are out of shape they will destroy you.

Great if you're absolutely alone in the gym and can be using 2 -3 pieces of equipment at the same time. Not great if you walk to the curl rack to pick up some curls and there's someone already there, so you walk back to the squat bench and your squats have been stolen.

No. I do a little of BJJ and wrestling, but my standup is straight garbage. I'm fairly certain that his BJJ is better than mine anyways. So the only real way I can win is by maintaining distance because I'm 6'4". But he does that better than me anyways. If we go to the ground, I can maybe muscle out a submission, but I doubt that he'd fall for it. I'd give him 8-2 odds, and the 2 is only because I'm so much bigger, and at least know a little of what I'm doing.

I wonder what % of this board lifts only for aesthetics.

I actually lift to be more dominant to other guys and have more professional success than to impress women. Its helped a lot since I'm not tall or very attractive, but people hear me out more often now that I am stronger.
