While film Leicas look great and have a great built quality I prefer digital Leicas.

Why?

Well first in the film world Leicas are just not that special. Film SLRs are pretty much the same size. Also a lot of film SLRs, even cheap ones, feel solid. There are a lot of other companies that made rangefinder cameras aside from Leica.

With small format film you already don't have much resolution so I argue that you don't fully see the potential of Leica lenses.

With film you can't review your image instantly after you took it. With SLRs you may not need to because you see what you get as you see through the lens but since Leicas are rangefinder cameras the viewfinder is just a window next to the lens so you get parallax and no depth of field preview. What can also happen is that the rangefinder gets de-calibrated so you will have out of focus images and waste a roll of film or worse unique photos.

Now in the digital world Leica is pretty unique. No one else makes digital rangefinder cameras. And before the arrival of the Sony a7 the Leica M9 was the smallest full frame camera with interchangeable lenses. Even if that is not true anymore Leica Ms are still special. The issues a rangefinder can have are fixed with live-view. The lenses can fully show their potential with the high resolution full frame sensors.
