Didn't watch but he's probably right.

I'm only into "streetstyle" fashion because it's like people watching.

I've graduated from fashion trends long ago and only wear dadcore basics I buy locally.
>>
>>9765276
i like all the bullshit and hypocrisy he reports on, but does he honestly think any real change will come from his show

the public in general just doesn't care about the world or other people
>>
>>9766664
no hes a comedian that's not what he was trying to do but the real take home message is to try and understand where your clothes are coming from and why they're so cheap
>>
People always give me shit about spending too much on clothes. From now on I'm just gonna play the moral high ground, I can't believe I've never thought of this before. Thanks John Oliver.
>>
>>9766595
Conservative troglodyte please kill self.
>>
so which designer shit is made responsibly?

which high street shit?

which street shit?

should be in the sticky
>>
>>9767866
why do you feel the need to tell people how much you spend? and if they can already recognize something without asking CHANCES ARE they won't care
>>
>>9767879
All the well known brands /fa/ always talks about
Acne
APC
Norse
Common projects
Rick Owens

Feels good to be apart of /fa/: the most morally sound board.
>>
>>9767901
My close friends usually see a piece of clothing on me that they like and ask me how much it was/where I got it. They ask me because they're my friends and they care about things that I'm interested in, they also give me shit because they're my friends.

Maybe one day when you have friends and someone takes an interest in your life and your hobbies you'll understand.
>>

http://www.honestby.com/

mostly womens stuff and the little mens stuff is kinda shit BUT i really like the idea behind it and it details all the pricing and location of manufacture. now, just because some fashionable 5" shorts are made in italy doesn't mean they aren't made by brown slaves but you just have to trust that a company who volunteers all their manufacturing info won't be covering much up
>>

that warms my heart

and dont forget amappy 'the faggotstore'

Acne and APC is partly made in China. I'm not too sure about the condition of the factories they use.

oh right, they explicitly ask for the price e v e r y single time, hm ok. considering that's extremely uncommon for guys it leads me to believe your friends have a very high interest in clothes/fashion, yet still freak out at the prices? hm ok [2]

hope you have an epic tale ready for your most recent purchase! and don't forget to include the tax on it's price!!
>>
I hope you realize all the child labor examples are outliers as it actually takes some skill to work the machinery in these factories.

These poor families in Bangladesh need these sweatshops to survive idk what you liberal cucks are hoping to accomplish.
>>
>>9768001
I just told you, they ask when they see a piece they like. Like a sweater or a pair of shoes or something.
Jesus man, I was just kidding about the no friends part but you're just proving me right. You've never had someone say

"wow nice sweater man, where did you get it?"
at _____ online
"oh cool, how much was it? It's really nice"

It's called having a conversation. Also it's not only guys, you sure like to imply a lot of things anon.
>>
>>9768021

yeah tough luck, you're born in a really shitty place you're bound to end up in a really shitty job
>>
>>9768021
Oh yeah, they need this to survive so let's just exploit them, pay them shit and make them work in terrible conditions 12hours a day.
>>
>>9768027
Asking how much something costs is extremely rude. What kind of friends do you have?
>>
>>9767905
Weren't CPs made in italy, but by migrant chinese workers?
>>
Is Jon Oliver effay?
>>
>>9768027

hm ok [3]
>>
>>9768068
Yeah, but I'm willing to bet they get paid a better wage and experience better working conditions than a sweatshop.
>>
>>9768060
Once you reach a certain point in a friendship you can say whatever you want to your friends. Questions like how much something costs or "what's wrong with your sex drive", or "why have you been getting so fat lately?" are all certainly rude to someone you don't really know, but not a close friend. I don't think it's that weird, we're just comfortable with each other.

>>9768074
Glad we got that settled.
>>
>>9768052
they know the conditions of the job and they willingly choose to accept them, no one is forcing them to do anything, they choose and continue to work for them because their alternative is to die, i'm sure that'd please you
>>
>>9768052
sure, let's call all mighty State and wait for the best :^)
>>
>>9768089
They don't really have other alternatives, but companies who use those sweatshops do. They could actually work to get the workers to work in good conditions and pay them decently, but they don't because they'd make less money. When you have the possibility to make someone's life better and you don't because you'd rather have more money it's just wrong and immoral.
>>
>>9767905

ACNE has always been produced in eastern european sweatshops and china even more nowadays.

APC is probably the same but i haven't checked.
>>
>>9768089
We worked hard to get rid of these problems in America 100 years ago. Why is okay to move these exact problems to another country? Obviously Americans have a problem with it, or else our country would still have the lower class working 60-80 hour weeks and dying in building fires.
>>
>>9768113
m-muh quality
>>
>>9768113
>>9767954
That's disappointing to hear. Someone should make a list of 100% confirmed stores so we can bully poorfags for killing malnourished Asian children.
>>
>>9768113
as of last fw APC was produced in france
don't know about now tho
>>
>>9768138

made in france doesn't really mean much, CDG shirt is made in france and its bullshit anyway

>>9768132
>>9768128

raf post 2010? i don't remember is all made in portugal, like Our Legacy. don't know how good the working conditions are there but it's certainly a downgrade from belgium and italy
>>
>>9768110
they don't have other alternatives because of the shitty policies of their governments, the stores are in no way responsible for their bad luck, you're thinking of charitable organizations, these stores are businesses, it's not their duty to cure the world's problems, you should be thankful they're there to offer these people an alternative from an even shittier job and pay them for the unskilled labor no one else is willing to pay them for
>>
>>9768156
How is CDG bullshit
>>
>>9768197
he said CDG shirt
>>
>>9768172
Companies don't 'have' to do it, but not doing it when they could is immoral. Treating people like that is illegal is Europe, NA, why would it be ok to do it in poor countries? They should certainly not be thankful to be exploited and barely make enough money to survive...

You're so apathetic but you don't seem to realise that the only reason you're not in their situation is because you were lucky enough to be born in a country where people fought for the right not to be exploited.
>>
>>9768222
Okay then why is CDG Shirt bullshit
>>
>>9768197

cdg shirt is a stupid line almost on the level of cdg play

i respect the shit out of cdg, cdg homme, and cdg homme plus and have owned lots from the latter two.
>>
>>9768021
lmao, this is what entitled americans actually believe

you aren't too good at logic
>>
>>9768089
>>9768103
conservatives pls go. your uneducated and half baked opinions aren't welcome in the presence of morally wholesome patricians

take your love of slave labor back to /pol/, neckbeards
>>
>>9768172
who do you think is setting up those shitty policies?

the local governments are controlled by us business interests, the people themselves aren't deciding on the labor laws. fucking kek, you're so naive
>>
>>9768087
I don't even ask my close family how much this or that costs and they don't ask me. Being close to someone doesn't mean you're allowed to be rude to them.
>>
>>9768261
I'm willing to concede that it isn't nearly as nice as homme or homme plus, but I still think it's better than the vast majority of clothing, e.g. Zara and HM garbage. I don't think that Shirt was meant to hold up with other high end labels, nor is Play for that matter, they both fill a niche. It's like going to see a Seth Rogan movie and being upset its not Citizen Kane.
>>
>>9768224

i don't know the specific conditions of these places, but unless they're physically harming these people, they should be legally and morally allowed to do whatever they're doing, and yes, they should indeed be thankful because if it wasn't for them "exploiting" them they'd be dead or working for someone else exploiting them even harder for less money, i'm apathetic because i hate people trying to impose an obligation on someone else (a company in this case) because of something they're not responsible for, beggars can't be choosers, these are the conditions of the job, if you don't like them and prefer an even shittier job or dying, then don't take the job, but if you decide to take it, knowing what you were in for, don't complain later and try to impose YOUR conditions on a place giving you money to survive that wasn't even there to begin with, and btw, i'm not american, stop assuming things about me

>>9768298
>the local governments are controlled by us business interests
duh, that's the problem doofus, the reason they're eating shit is because they don't have a clear separation between economic power and political power, when private businesses influence your government's policies you know you're gonna get fucked, fucking kek, you're so naive
>>
>>9768305
Sorry, I don't know what to tell you. Asking how much something costs doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me. In fact, it seems like a perfectly reasonable question. Family and friends frequently ask me how much I payed for something, and not just clothes. I've never considered it to be rude.
>>
>>9768357
Whatever man, stay in your sad little world. Maybe you'll realise that the reason you're able to live as well as you do today, is because at some point, someone imposed obligations on companies in your country so that they couldn't treat workers as slaves.
Read the Universal Declaration of Human Rights while you're at it.
>>
>>9768357
oh sorry, so you just sound like a dumb american, that's an important distinction

really though go be a slave labor apologist on /pol/, that kind of hilariously backwards thinking is received much better there

>b-but muh bootstraps!! !

the only ppl i thought who get upset about money and finances are old ppl from the old generation, where there was a very strict "dont ask dont tell" policy, usually ppl under 40 dont really give too much shit if someone asks about how much so and so makes, or how much is that car or clothes you buy, most ppl dont give a shit, unless you're really uncomfortable and ashamed of yourself
ive rarely met young ppl who get uppity talking about their finances
>>
>>9768261
shirt is better than play. It's at least tasteful sometimes.
>>
>>9768451
>>9768371
I was just raised in a family and social environment where i've been taught that talking about money outside of a business setting is inappropriate. I just think other people's finances doesn't concern me in the slightest, and vice versa.
>>
>>9768484
I'm not discussing my life expenses with them, they just want to know how much an item costs. If I tell them the name they can just Google it and see how much it costs anyway. There's nothing inappropriate about it. What if they want to buy one of whatever item it is so they're curious how much it costs? I've never even heard of someone thinking that's offensive, this is ridiculous.
>>
>>9768410
if you think a happy world consists of reaching your ends by evil means then i don't want to be part of it, forcing people to do things is wrong no matter how good your intentions, kek the declaration of human rights... a right is only a right as long as it doesn't violate someone else's rights, most of these so-called rights rely on forcing others to give you stuff which violates their rights to liberty and property, rights are rights to liberties of action not to stuff/economic means that require someone else to be forced to give them to you, are these companies coercing these people to work for them? are they physically harming them? then absolutely, something must be done, are they not? then tough luck, thank their governments, if you want to help them, no one's stopping you, i'm not against these companies or anyone helping these poor workers, i'm against using state force to make them to do it or claiming it's somehow their moral duty to do so, it's not, it's a favor, if they are willing to help them, that'd be awesome, if they're not, that sucks

>>9768434

nothing is made ethically

if its manufactured in a first world country, it's done in the cheapest way possible with migrant workers or even just bare minimum wages that still don't scale to the increased cost of living

just an example, a lot of the mia sweatshirts, jackets etc. that supreme loves to source for it's "MIA!!!" outerwear and sweats are made by trailer park hicks in the mid west and south

the only thing that's going to get anyone any decent salary for production is artisinal/special order stuff, and even then I'm sure it's outsourced or the cost is minimized through process

ie, laser cut acne hoodie has fabric outsourced and cut, maybe the company that handles the cutting is getting a decent cut for their skills/facilities but then it goes right into the hands of a romanian migrant worker doing paint by numbers with the stitching with fear of being fired if they produce anything slightly off that'll end up in tk maxx

rick owens or whatever is still going to be something manufactured by relatively unskilled workers working with templates and specialized machinery for the more complicated issues, tricky ricky himself is not gently sobbing while personally gluing the sole onto your ramones

maybe for more specialized leather objets or footwear like ccp or guidi the workers might need to know their shit so might make enough to have a decent living, but if it's simple cut and sew fabric doubtful anybody can sustain themselves for an above median existence no matter where they live because it's just unskilled labor and no profit for the companies to pay them more than minimum wage
>>

MESS @ raf being made in portugal. they probably share the same slaves with zara

>their a business so they can treat people like slaves
Do you honestly think that the ceos of these companies need to be making millions of dollars a year when these people are getting paid next to nothing. The ceos are still going to live better than 90% of the world if they cut they're pay to a 10% of what it is now. Capitalism is good, it brings innovation, and yes it inherently puts some people over the others but it should never reach the point that it has now. We are all people and to me that means everyone should have just as much a right to live with dignity as the other. So fat cat ceos shouldn't need to have these people virtually enslaved just so they can pull in a little more money that will more than likely never even be spent.
>>
>>9769072
if you're really passionate about this do some reading into free market capitalism, socialist democracies and business ethics

so long as people lack awareness/motivation towards self betterment as a whole, individuals will dominate unfairly and this is happening on only a greater and greater gap than seen before in history
>>
so where can i get actual ethically made basics. american apparel?
