I have one pleb friend (female girl born in china) who always compliments me on my designer clothes. She dresses frumpy as hell and seems to have no clue how to properly dress herself, but always likes my clothes.

Most of the compliments are just things like "cool" or "interesting"

but more recently I've stopped wearing my more "out-there" designer pieces and just stick to more casual, unassuming clothes.

I've only ever gotten compliments on my lower end pieces. Backpack from Target, boots from Marshall's, Nautica Voyage cologne. That's why it's hard to justify buying anything too expensive. Unless you are doing it for yourself, not many other people know or care how great the quality or name brand your piece might be.

I know /fa/ has an aversion to anything Unknown Pleasures now because of hipsters in the recent years making it into a meme, but normal people still love it. I get compliments almost every time I wear it because people think its so cool.

A lot of people are just kind of in awe as well, especially since a good majority of them have never even seen something remotely resembling high fashion. This is where I think a lot of people here get the idea that because you are into high fashion you are automatically a shut in weirdo now. Yes you obviously look different to the normal eye but if you can style i right I have found you can always be quite approachable no matter what you might be wearing. Styling is so important when it comes to stuff like this, but sometimes there is nothing you can do and the pieces or look can just be to out there for people.

I actually first came across billy reid like 2010 when I found a shirt at marshalls that i bought. still wear it all the time and no other single piece of clothing has gotten as many compliments as that one has.
