What sort of watch to wear to an interview for a desk job? Would have to go well with a grey suit but not be expensive (more than $100). Is a Weekender too casual?
>>
what is a good two tone watch?
>>
>>9663231
Two tone watches are garish and tacky.
>>
>>9662552

That's not a Tourbillon. It's just the balance wheel. I wonder how many people around the world have bought cheap Chinese shit like that thinking it was a legit Tourbillon.

The watch in the OP is a piece of shit that wouldn't have cost more than $20 on eBay.

>>9662838

Absolutely love the crowns on these.

>>9662949

Monster has 200m WR but I think it's ugly. A lot of people love em though.

That GMT has a cool bezel, but it's quite gimmicky. It's used as a calculator.

I prefer the look of the GMT so I'd go for that. I'd go for neither if it was my money though.

>>9663100

I love the STOP2GO version of this.

>>9663131

They reek of someone who want's to show off wealth, but has very little of it, or taste for that matter. Just look at Tag Heuer two tone watches they target that market. It's very difficult to do two tone right and almost non have pulled it off.
>>
>>9663296
Dude, your watch should be pulled around the back and shot. It's fucking gross.
>>
>>9663287
Because no-lives on the internet like to go around stating their opinions as if they were facts.

Uh-oh. Would you look at that?

> but it's not the same watch!!

Only difference is the dial colour and the one in the link is 2 tone.

You have a $20 watch.
>>

>>9663324

>getting this upset that you can't afford nice things.

>>
>>9663317
>>9663302

Watches don't reek. They don't have a smell. That's just how you feel about them. Its not based in fact. If you don't like the watch then say that but don't go making objective statements that you can't prove.
>>
>>9663334

> damage control.

Your watch is shit. Don't worry about it, but don't try and play it off as something that is much more than it actually is.

I can afford a $480 watch. I have plenty in that price range. I am not trying to say they're worth $2k though.
>>
>>9663326
The point I'm trying to make is you shouldn't be wearing a watch to emulate or exude wealth. A two tone watch is more often then not worn by someone who knows little about watches, but think two tone is what rich people wear on account of the gold. So its not about wearing a watch that "reeks" of wealth and taste, but rather one with history and exceptional craftsmanship, e.g. Lange and JLC. A watch is functional art not a lewd display of wealth and status.

>>
>>9663343
>The point I'm trying to make is you shouldn't be wearing a watch to emulate or exude wealth
I'm not trying to. You mad that assumption on your own. I asked for a good two tone watch. You brought up wealth which had nothing to do with what I asked.
>>
>>9663352
I'm not accusing you personally it's just by getting a two tone that's the perception you give out. Simply trying to educate. Get yourself a solid stainless steel, goes with more outfits, and won't be off putting. If you have to get a two tone Rolex Datejust is decent, just stay away from cartier and tag whore.
>>
>>9663350

Your watch is beautiful and I am fully in support of your arguments. Please post another photo of what many would call the pinnacle of modern horology.
>>
>>9663343
>but rather one with history and exceptional craftsmanship
I posted a Cartier watch.
>two tone is what rich people wear on account of the gold.
So I shouldn't buy something because some one thinks its expensive? If I think water is expensive will you stop buying that too?
>>

>>
>>9663382

I'm an outsider to the conversation. I just thought I'd throw that in.

I don't mind what you think but most Cartier watches today are gaudy fashion watches for people who would have bought a Fossil if they weren't wealthy.
>>
>>9663376
Alright look Persian then. Get a salvage BMW 3 series, drown yourself in armani cologne, and wear gold chains to match.
>>
>>9663370
Yeah, it's the reduced. The new display backs aren't the best, because the sapphire crystal ruins the dial giving it a milky circle around it. The old display with hesalite is much better.
>>
>>9663388
> Cartier watches today are gaudy fashion watches for people who would have bought a Fossil if they weren't wealthy.
Do you have a single fact to back that up?

Fucking love it man. I'm still on the fence about trading my Speedmaster Reduced towards it. I say keep the Explorer it will retain value well after the jackets get tattered (although I love SLP I get 50% off ;) ).
>>
>>9663524

Keep it.
>>
>>9663533
you got a point, especially since mine is the discontinued 36mm model. However, in my opinion, it is quite a bland watch to look at. Hmmm

Also, how do you get 50 percent off Saint Laurent?!
>>
Someone tell me why do so many people have a thing for larger watches. I feel the most comfortable with 38mm timepieces and think that 40mm are athe biggest that still are justified.
>>

>>

>>9663598
Would not cop. But you know you aesthetic better then I do, do as you please. Can't be bothered to trawl through posts to see if you are Rolex fag or speedy fag. No but seriously, very few women actually like watches the same way that men do. It's probably just going to be a fashion accessory to complement an outfit and nothing more. And even if she does like watches then choosing a good watch is a very personal thing and other people rarely get it right. It's a nice gesture but that's a hard gift to get right, I would probably ask her to help you pick one at least.

A watch for a woman is way different than for a man, like the other anon said. Women don't give a crap about mechanical wonders in general. It needs to be pretty, not much more. Does she like to wear gold or silver?

A few brands to look at;

Armani
GC
Guess
Gucci
Tommy Hilfiger
Calvin Klein

Or save up 500 more and get her a two-tone (hate me /fa/) oyster that will hold its value more.

No. If you want to spend $1000+ on a watch then you should be knowledgeable enough about watches to pick one for yourself. There's also a huge variety of watches you can buy once you get into the thousands of dollars range and there's too many options to put into an infographic. If you want 4chan to pick your watch for you then you should at least have a few in mind first and then I would be happy to criticize your taste.

Cons:

Junkers:
-mineral crystal
-dial seems a it big (looks about 42mm, haven't checked, correct me if I'm wrong)
Orient:
-design is a bit cluttered, roman numerals can be too dressy for casual wears
-low water resistance

Go for the junkers if you absolutely love bauhaus and want a hassle-free set-and-leave-it quartz.
Personally I'd go for Orient.

>>
>>9665406
Yeah, for free.

I don't know how long he's had it.

All it really needs is to be polished or something, the time still works.

Also, why won't most watchmakers work with it?
>>
>>9665418
As long as the movement's still in good shape, an AD may actually clean it up for free. Or you could do it yourself.
Genuine rolex parts are extremely hard to source and if you put any non-rolex part in a rolex, you'll regret it if you ever take your watch into an AD. They basically act like the watch is theirs and you just have it on loan from them, and they get all pissed if you do anything to the watch. Removing the cyclops is a common user mod on rolexes, but if you ever send it in for service to rolex with the cyclops removed, they'll replace the crystal and charge you an exorbitant amount for it.
So basically watchmakers won't touch it because it'd be a pain in the ass for you in the long run, and it's possible that they'd just refuse to service anything that had been touched by another watchmaker.
>>
>>9665437
Really? For free?

What would it take for it to be free?
>>
>>9665448
You should just sell it here.
I'll give it a good home.
>>
>>9665448
It would take your AD being nice. They'll have an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner and they'd probably just throw it in there.
Can you describe what exactly's dirty about it? It's a sub, so there's no reason you couldn't just clean it up in the sink.

Well I was joking when I said that. I've previously questioned how useful those antimagnetic watches are since "mil gauss" is 0.1 Tesla and as far as I know MRIs are at least between 1 and 2 Tesla and I've stuck my hand in scientific equipment that has an 18.8 Tesla field. Even the antimagnetic Omegas can't even get close to that shit.

Also most stainless alloys aren't very magnetic at all. I don't know exactly how much an MRI would pull on it anyway especially since there's other stuff inside the watch that might be magnetic, but I doubt it would rip your hand off or anything. It might break your wrist if you get it jammed between the watch and the magnet, though.
>>
>>9666201
>>9666122
Genuine question, if the milgauss isn't very powerful in terms of having resistance to magnetism, what's the function for? I think I remember that it couldn't even stand a small rare earth magnet

I think it's because for a long time now watches have been water resistant way past depths that would kill humans and there's even some that can go to the bottom of the ocean just fine. Rolex and Omega aren't really into the whole bells and chimes and spinny things and calendars and moonphases and shit like a lot of other manufacturers, so I guess magnetism is the next thing to dickwave about.

I'm really not sure what 1000 gauss is good for, that sounds like a 10m diving watch to me. I guess it's nice for protecting against casually brushing up against electric motors or CRT monitors or speakers and stuff like that? But maybe in the future they'll get much better.

I figured I should give the rubber strap a chance since it came with the watch for free. Turns out rubber sucks about as much as I expected it to, it's sweaty and uncomfortable and awful. Also the strap is way too long for my bitchwrists, I had to use one of the big holes on the side of the strap instead of the actual holes that are meant for that. I also don't know why I got a black strap to go with my blue watch. At least it feels like nice high quality rubber and it smells nice.

I have the bracelet. I just haven't used the rubber strap since I got the watch in January. The dial is very beautiful, it's usually a dark blue to almost black indoors, but if the sun or a bright light hits it at an angle it turns a really nice iridescent blue.

My only other diver is an SKX007 so I guess that's what I'll compare it to. The lume is pretty good but it's shit compared to the Seiko lume. The blasted finish is cool and tough looking and it reminds me of titanium, but be warned that it gets dirty easier and it can get smudged a little bit with fingerprints. It also shows scratches and dings worse than a normal brushed/polished finish. The bracelet is nice, the finish is the same as the watch and it feels nice and sturdy and it looks different from the usual oyster bracelets. The bezel clicks very solidly. The crystal looks nice, it's a little bit domed and it seems to have a bit of AR coating and it's of course almost impossible to scratch. The movement is a miyota 9015, it keeps really good time and it hacks and handwinds and beats faster than the Seiko, all in all I think it pretty solidly kicks the 7S26 in the ass. It's pretty equivalent to an ETA 2824 on paper and most people seem to like it a lot. The one idiosyncrasy is that the rotor only winds one way, so if you move your wrist a certain way the rotor starts spinning like crazy and it makes a little whirring noise because it's spinning freely. It doesn't bother me but I've seen a lot of people bitch about it so it's worth knowing. I think the hands look really nice, they have the same blasted finish and they're very easy to read accurately. The indices are plain but they get the job done.

I mostly just really hate the date window and I wish it wasn't there. The datewheel has a kind of ugly font and the white background sticks out from the rest of the dial. The window itself is also small and it looks like the hole was poorly punched into the dial. The dial is all warped and distorted around the window instead of being cleanly beveled or covered with a trim like on most watches.

I have some photos on my computer, I'll look for them in a little while.

Does anyone know anything about 70s/80s Seiko king quartz? I've been checking ebay the last few days for them and some of them look pretty cool and they seem to go for like $100-200 but there's no really good ones up right now and there's a lot of sketchy sellers.

Should I cop if a good one comes up? Will they need some kind of expensive service? I have no idea how it works with vintage quartz, I don't know how often they need service or how that works. I assume it's less of a problem than with mechanicals but I could be totally wrong. Should I just save up for a vintage hibeat king/grand Seiko? I love that 70s Seiko aesthetic with the flat surfaces and sharp edges.

Like $200k.
Most people gravitate towards ridiculous things like a fuckhuge Lange with a million complications including ur mums period tracker but if I were to spend a bunch of money on a watch I'd rather have something actually wearable. Which makes me gravitate towards Vacheron and JLC, because they make mechanically advanced watches that look like they had thought put into their layout instead of designing the movement and doing the dial as an afterthough.

But then you also have lots of options from all the little independent luxury watchmakers. A laurent ferrier galet microrotor would be another top choice of mine. Of course, if you're a rich cunt who wants to look like a rich cunt, this is not going to work because it's pretty under the radar.

>>9668116
So are microrotors actually any good at winding a watch? Because if so then why aren't they more common, is it really that much added complexity or is it just that they aren't as efficient? I can imagine that for the first automatics they used bigass rotors because they were just slapping an extra gear train and stuff on top of an existing movement, but you would think that by now if there wasn't some flaw in that type of design then more manufacturers would've moved on to smaller rotors integrated into the rest of the movement since they're designed to be automatic from the ground up.
>>
>>9668120
Give proof pls
>>
>>9668136
They aren't as good because physics, it's smaller, it's lighter, it won't rotate as much and it won't wind as much.

>>9668136
>So are microrotors actually any good at winding a watch?
Yes. There may be a small decrease in efficiency just due to their lower inertia, but you have to remember that in the course of a day your average automatic watch will go through enough rotation to wind your mainspring several times over. It wouldn't be a noticeable difference.
More manufacturers don't use them because they're lazy cunts, and because they are kind of complicated. It's a lot easier to slap a spinny weight onto the top of a movement than to design the bridges around a rotor and have that rotor connected to the mainspring through a more complicated gear train.
Also the major swiss movement manufacturers (ETA and Rolex particularly) seem to be allergic to making new calibre designs. ETA's been coasting off the same shit for 60 years.
I think we may get an affordable nippon microrotor eventually. I know the chinese also have one in the works.
Until then, I'm going to keep jerking off to my thinomatic.
>>
>>9668139
What kind do you need?

Also, just note that having money doesn't automatically mean I splurge on shit. I'm not buying this watch, my friend is.

If there was a way to contact you in the future, I would probably send you proof of my watch when I get it (2 weeksish? Possibly less)
>>
>>9668144
Well yeah I understand that it produces a lot less energy, but apparently it's possible since all these richfag movements do it. So I'm guessing either it doesn't actually work all that well and you still need to manually top up that thing or keep it on a winder for a lot of time, or there's some huge amount of additional complexity but I don't really see why that would be. Unless maybe it involves somehow making the winding mechanism much more efficient than the usual reversing gears (or magic lever) setup.
>>
>>9668162
It's very possible, it just doesn't work AS well, but since it doesn't take much energy to wind a watch anyway, it doesn't make a difference unless you're some sort of sedentary whaleblob

I don't understand why they did the triangles, it's dumb and it makes no sense and I almost get the feeling that it happened by mistake. It doesn't really bother me though, I hardly notice it and diver bezels are usually asymmetric anyway. At least they didn't put the 30 upside down like they did on the first explorer, that was pretty dumb. I also just realized while typing this that the EXPLORER text on the dial is supposed to look like the COMEX submariners, that's neat I guess.

How is the pradata, is it as fucking enormous as it looks? And is it a DLC one or plain stainless? Honestly I think almost all the OMs besides the explorers are ass ugly, but the pradata is actually not bad and it's pretty unique looking.
