Is this too weird for a guy to carry a laptop or tablet in, under his shoulder?
I like the minimalism and backpacks are too plebeian.

I personally wouldn't care but some people are stupid so if you really care about what they think then yea, you should avoid it.
you want to carry your laptop in a string handled bag because you don't want to look like a pleb.

look for one with a lid

this is pretty cool OP. it only looks gay if the rest of you does. also if you carry the tote in your hand rather than on your shoulder it won't be a problem at all
needs a beefy strap, otherwise it looks pretty cool

Have you considered a plain simple canvas messenger bag?
enjoy a broken laptop...just get a backpack or satchel you really like, and fuck it up a bit so it stands out.
Invest in a nice 2 way bag and you'll be aight; over the shoulder toting is totes tacky
I always keep my laptop in a Chrome laptop sleeve. Good cushioning, water proof, simple design

I've used mine every day for a year
Literally no scratches, discoloration, popped seams, or stains
But if it were made of cordura or ballistic nylon I'd be way happier
