How would one even describe the characteristics of japanese fashion? I see people posting japanese inspo and the styles I've seen are eclectic and differ greatly. Is it a lot of blues and new balances?

just be laid back. you're trying way to hard to put a label on it all...... look at his pieces, all standards on their own but them together with confidence and apathy and you have yourself "japanese fashion"

Based on my observations of Japanese fashion, you can condense it into the same items reappearing over and over again, just in different colors and brands. Once you see enough Japanese fashion, you just realize it's the same stuff just in minor variations. The crazy layering stuff seen in OP's post looks only good in a magazine photoshoot and would look shit in real life.

Japanese fashion seems refreshing to us because we are used to Western brands putting out gaudy streetwear shit that we won't admit is ugly, or boring menswear in dark, uninteresting colors. While I think it's wrong to call Japanese fashion unique, I do admit that it better fits the cheery, youthful aesthetic that we all want to have. Basically, we admire Japanese fashion because it seems like what a happy young adult should wear instead of the dreary monochrome or fake palewave that we circlejerk over.

Maybe youre right that I don't belong here beacuse I don't understand why you'd have an outfit for going to the grocery store. That's the most average thing to do ever and I feel it isn't necessary to to have a -core for it. I get what youre saying about the fit that it's just a light fit to go on a walk with, and maybe you were joking about the grocery store thing, or that was the first outing you thought about, but if you are in fact being serious, I don't get it.

I'm all for looking good but if you have a 'beer/snack run core' or 'picking up take out food core' then i think you take this stuff a lot more seriously than i do.

tokyo fashion is pretty mainstream but has some nice fits occasionally

I live in Tokyo

Depends where you are, in places like Nerima none of the locals dress well but in places like Shimokitazawa, Koenji, Shibuya, people generally dress well and there are a lot of interesting stores.

Compared to America people probably dress better on average. Outside of the few "major" cities in the U.S., I feel like fashion is the worst of any first world country I've been to.
