I wish I could get away with wearing traditional garb from other cultures without getting some social justice warrior telling me I'm appropriating or looking generally odd.

who cares if the original culture is offended. its fucking 2015, we live in a globalized society.

I'm not ashamed of my country or anything, but the non-European clothing seems so mysterious and interesting and effay.

It's a sensitivity to the commodification of culture. I'm sure you've heard of greek yogurt by now and all the dumb fucking 30 something upper middle class fags that hoped onto the fad. I used to work at a restaurant in a rich little enclave of a town, I'd see a ton of the vapid fucks and they couldn't get enough of our "authentic" cultural food. Viva la italia? Fuck off, we're a sandwich joint.
Globalism in a perfect world creates a melting pot of culture and commerce, which it sort of has. But what it's also done is allowed people with power and money to scout out products in places of poverty and under-development to aggressively market to the riches places in the world. This sort of robs them of the opportunity to spread their culture on their own terms and benefit personally from the exchange.
>>9584223
Oh god my spelling.
Anyways, it's some hollow, vapid shit that comes only to make the rich richer, and the little guys only get a spotlight through grassroots sensibilities and tourism.
These are some pretty cool clothes though. Great inspo for muh arts.
>>9584224
Wow. That's awesome!

Bunad (Norwegian plural: bunader) is a Norwegian umbrella term encompassing, in its broadest sense, a range of both traditional rural clothes (mostly dating to the 19th and 18th centuries) as well as modern 20th-century folk costumes. In its narrow sense the word bunad refers only to clothes designed in the early 20th century that are loosely based on traditional costumes. The word bunad in itself is a 20th-century invention.
The bunad movement has its root in 19th-century national romanticism, which included an interest for traditional folk costumes not only in Norway, but also in neighbouring countries such as Denmark and notably Germany. However, in Norway national romanticist ideas had a more lasting impact, as seen in the use of folk inspired costumes.

FRIENDLY REMINDER WHITE PEOPLE:
I cannot stress enough to tell u to PLEASE do not try in any way to copy or imitate any of these images, it's cultural appropriation and it's racist
Thank you (✿◠‿◠)
>>9587474
Why is everything appropriation to you people?
I think you'd find a lot of people would love to have people from other cultures try their traditional outfits. It's fun to share culture, and it's possible to do it respectfully you know, but I guess this isn't compatible with the tumblr ideology of dividing everyone.

In their culture bright perfect teeth and eyes are the the main physical features for attracting a mate and the courtship ritual involves the men lined up and showing off their pearly white goods for the eligible women to take their pick from. It probably developed as a ready indicator of general health.
