Why was fashion so shitty in the 80s and 90s?

All the other ages was cool when you look back to it but 80s and 90s is just pure shit how could it ever be cool/ appealing?
>>
Not every age of fashion can be good. 80s/90s were just experimenting with color and looks, I suppose -- see how EXTREEEEME you can get.
>>
think about what drugs were in during the 80s. Crack. Think about who the president was. Ronald Reagan. There's your Answer

I think the "80s/90s" you posted is cool in a very different way from the 50s pic
then of course there's way more to each decade in fashion than those huge generalizations
its just personal taste dude
>>
the 90s sucked because fashion houses cashed in on selling cheap branded shit to the masses, fuck the 90s
>>
There were some good trends in the 80's and 90's.
>>
>>9532451
you're retarded
>>
>>9532471
It may just be personal taste, but yours is shit I'll tell you that.
>>
80s/90s were way more interesting than this boring shit in the 21st centuries, people nowadays are scared to have their own style.
>>
>>9532508
80s maybe, 90s was the peak of conformist consumerism
>>
>>9532471

>>
>>9532497
yours too, thats the beauty of it!
>>9532520
I'd say that we currently live in the "peak of conformist consumerism," all subcultures that emerge today are quickly commodified as fashion trends

i fail to undestand how such flared jeans are practical. doesn't the bottom get dirty after you've dragged them all over the street?

if it rains only a bit they get rekt too, and imagine wearing them when it snows
>>
>>9532508

90s people were more fashion victims than today

>I mus wear shitty faggot cloths like de other kewl kids in mu skool or they wont fhink im cuuuuuuuuwl

not much compares to the 90s, i'd say apple is the closest thing

>>
>>9532540
thats just schoolkids in general, that still happens today
>>9532544
yeah I guess if you're talking about brand consumerism that makes sense.

Speak for yourself paleface. While white people were rocking mullets and tight Lee jeans, the minorities (blacks, puerto ricans) were busy pioneering everything you now think is cool.
>>
>>9532451
Basically when the 80's came about, consumerism took off. Anyone could afford more expensive clothes and fabrics, the middle class especially. The neon colors came about as an attack to the later generation more bland colors. Bright colors and patterned everything on anything was seen as futuristic and "hip" which was all the 80's was about. Sci-fi was huge, superhero comics were huge, technology was huge et.c. Mean while The typical male 80's suit or clothing overall always aimed to get a V shaped body upper and quite muscular legs. The same with women, although women aimed for longer and slimmer legs, thus tanga panties was used, or rather "french cut thong" which to this day, is the best female underwear in my opinion, too bad no one uses it anymore.. While the 70's and 80's feels very different from each other, the 80's still were very inspired and sexual oriented too. Sexual boundaries opened up, men dressing as women (Mötley Crüe, Boy George, Dead or Alive) and gay/trans society opened up. Although not every man, woman and child accepted the rising gay culture with open arms such as males using lipstick, tight spandex and studded leather gear from gay shops (Judas Priests Rob Halford) It still got more positive exposure compared to what it had in the past, the same went for black culture, notably the Hip-hop culture which really made the use hi-tops mainstream. This also made an impact on how people dressed and how fashion developed in the 80's.

Lets not forget that working out became huge during this time too, everyone worked out. You jogged, did gymnastics, you would also aim to go and ski at least 2-3 times a year. Action movies and especially excessive fighting scenes were a big thing too which in turn made fighting oriented sports huge!

I agree that the 80's were horrible in both fit and clashing colors and so forth, but it was VERY important for the development of acceptance when it comes to style and design for both genders.
>>
>>9532451
Capitalism golden era in the 90s everything was a neon flashy product shoved down your throat
>>
>>9532565
Indeed. Black culture in the 80's made a huge impact on fashion, especially sneaker culture and sportswear. Although heavy metal did so too, we can really thank them for making tight jeans, leather jackets, boots, long hair and more seen as acceptable on men.
>>
Ugh you people are so young, fashion is very much relative
In 20/30 years people will say the exact same things about the stuff you're wearing now
Especially considering the cuts and palettes that are currently popular on this board

I don't think the 90's were all that bad entirely

Why do the 2010's look like a fucked up version of White Men Can't Jump?

Why are shitty trends coming back from the late 80's and early 90's in the 2010's?

The 80s was pretty damn /fa/, imo. I mean, yeah, there were mullets, neon colors, legwarmers, shoulder pads, and bad perms but that is the worst of the decade. Watch Footloose or pretty much any John Hughes movie and tell me people in the 80s didn't know how to dress. One thing you can say about the 80s is that it certainly wasn't boring.

Bet you all were born after -98 and look at 90s teen movies and cry yourself to sleep that you were born too late
>>
My brother still dresses in 80s/90s clothes

Hes 35 and have autism
>>
>>9532451
people didn't actually dress like that in the 80s you're cherrypicking costumes
>>
People used to have strict dress code and thanks to hippies under 60s and 70s people were more free to dress how they wanted. And for some reason it ended but with people started to dress in more colorful and childish styled thats even too childish for a toddler

These people pretty much dressed like this because they was rebelling against the grown-ups. Old people back then even was complaining how bad the youth is dressing.

Today we are starting to go back to classic/neutral clothes. Only people who upset the elder and the parents today are those who dress goth/punk with chains, visable tattos and peicings. Its all about rebelling.

People dress better today because now we have internet and fashion boards that helps people be more aware on whats appealing

Back then they just fell victims for fashion in teen magazines

I grew up in the 90s and what I remember people didn't dress much different than today.

This was more common in america
>>
>>9532451
yeah it was so much cooler when people dressed in identical menswear.
you fucking loser.
>>
>>9533029

I'd be okay with more uniform clothing because that creates more of a sense of belonging.

Wut. Mid 90s heroin-chic was the epitome of fashion. That shit could never be popular today because feminists would raise hell. Instead now we have whale tier kate uptons as our popular "models"
>>
>>9532978
Op is retarded. Saying 80/90's were unfashionable because of how celebrities dressed is stupid. Look at how lady gaga and niki monaj dress. Both autistic, but not an accurate representation of how we dress today at all. Same goes for 80/90's.

Tight jeans weren't appropriated by blacks.

My dad is sixty something and white. He tells me in high school they used to soak their jeans in the bath to get them skintight and wear them with black leather jackets and white tees.
