why do people actually think rick owens is a good designer again?
look at this shit
what asshole would want to wear this out in public?
cheap see-through material for $400
you can get the exact same thing from a chinese sweatshop for 35 cents

i think rick is mostly a good designer but the stuff that generally gets hyped, especially on /fa/, is bad.

I'm not talking about durability but about the luxury of the material.
Just go to your nearest Rick store and compare it to your $5 tee.
I'm not defending rick as a brand and these shirts are really fragile but that's the sacrifice in order to make it fit like it does
>>9396093
Fair enough, but just because a material is luxurious doesn't mean it looks good
>>9396096
Absulutely but that's for everyone to decide, high end designers put out a lot of stuff that's hard to wear. I really like rick but I can' find myself wearing 80% stuff he makes.

if we go by your logic everyone should wear one layer of clothing at all times. would you go to work without either the jacket or shirt? no, it is essential to have both in order to get the 'look' of formal officewear. same stands for high end stuff. you cant just wear a rick shirt on its own with cheap blue straight jeans, brown leather shoes and no jacket. you put items of clothing together to complement the piece.

I think the point is that people who rail against Rick don't have any comeback as to what clothes are better. That's because most likely not everyone is going to like it and that would point out how subjective a taste in fashion is, so the argument is stupid in the first place.

Yeah, a lot of people forget that there's TONS of stuff in the showroom and lots of smaller stores choose to only grab a seasonal style or two while sticking to things that are tried and true. That said, a lot of things that are repeated are usually repeated with some minor variation (Biker Level Knits and a lot of fabrics for dresses come to mind immediately), so it can seem like there's a lot of new stuff.
That said, the draped kangaroo pocket turtlenecks from Gleam remains something I constantly hunt for, but I've made my peace with not finding them.

>>9399275
I understand when people don't like something because it's not their style, but I don't get the "embarrassing" thing that gets thrown around so much. Okay, it's a fine jersey. So I wear it under a jacket. I wear a tank underneath. I don't have any hang ups enough my body that are so bad where I'll have a crippling bout of anxiety over a t-shirt.
>>9399280
>but I don't get the "embarrassing" thing that gets thrown around so much. Okay, it's a fine jersey. So I wear it under a jacket. I wear a tank underneath.
so what you're saying is you cover it up completely this way no one can even see it

I use the garment in whatever way is most comfortable and practical. If it's warm, then it makes sense to wear it on its own. If it's cold, then it'd be silly to force myself to not layer just to showcase what t-shirt I have.
And things don't have to be undergarments in order to be basic building blocks for a look. Nobody would expect you to go without a shirt just so you can focus on the suit you're wearing, would they?

i really don't get the intentions of designers in general trying to sell these weird ass designs, they are made to be shown off in a fashion show runway, where they are only going to be appreciated by other designers and other people with a 2deep4me taste, do they consider that a person willing to spend 2000 bucks on a black sheet isn't intelligent enough to realize that they are not living in a fashion show? why would they spend that much money in a single item that almost no one is going to appreciate in the same way as the designers and buyers do? are they aware that people on the street are not going to clap at them or congratulate them for buying it?
seriously the people that buy those kind of designer brands have either a shitton of money to spend, or they don't care about spending hundreds or thousands of dollars for an unpractical piece of clothing just to get weird looks from other people wherever they go.
And no i'm not mad
>>9399619
This actually looks like those pictures off ebay of Armenian sweatshop owners who use their daughters to pose in the cheaply made, and poorly fitted "made for USA" type clothing
>>9399647
I don't get people who don't do what they want.
Fashion is like anything, you should behave in accordance to your own tastes. I think Rick's clothing is beautiful, and that's why I buy and wear it.
The only intention Rick has is for you to like his things and wear them. If you don't like it, fine.
If you don't understand it, maybe that's on you. I like how you are so quick to shrink an idea like art appreciation into "2deep4u". Why like anything? Are you supposed to just have a passing interest in things? Are we going to ignore that digging deep into any area of fine art is very rewarding, or that it alters your perception? Rick is the kind of designer that takes the history of clothing and fashion into consideration with his designs, as well as a sort of prediction of where it can, or should, go. If you are used to just fast fashion jeans and t-shirts everywhere, I can see how it would be jarring, but to me it looks very natural, it has a timeless quality and a very modern feeling to it.
I'm not going to listen to the radio all the time just so I can know all the music everyone talks about, I'm going to listen to shit I love to listen to even if I can't talk to most people about it. I'm not going to wear shit you think is appropriate because who are you, and why do you think I need to impress you? I don't really want anything to do with someone who has an issue with the way I look.If I'm crossing the street and people are staring, then whatever, I'm probably listening to music or talking to someone.
This never happens though. I've never had any social problems. If anything, it's brought me into contact with people I can relate to.
So there you go. Do what you want, because you're going to die.

I think you bring up some fair points, but I also think that the styling of a runway show is interfering with your ability to accurately evaluate what you're talking about. I was just saying that I don't actually like the bubble hem styles unless there's a skirt to lengthen and add to the silhouette, in which case I agree with the other anon's assessment that it's a hard-to-wear style. But I like and wear a lot of Rick, so I don't see how it's surprising that I'm comfortable with taking it apart and critiquing the styling.

The word autists use to describe experimental clothing and music they pretend to like to be cool for their internet friends
>>9402847
Because that's the effect they're after. The goal is to push the proportion. You already have the elongated sleeve on the jacket, so extending the proportion of the jersey exaggerates things further and does evoke a skirt a bit.
I think it's great if you don't like it, but it'd be even better if you can look outside your own tastes to try and see other perspectives.
>>9402847
See when you say something that's decent, it just seems it's something you recognize. You even use the word "kilt" as a perjorative. I mean, there are people that wear kilts. It's not this forbidden abnornal thing in the world. You're just like "Oh okay a motorcycle jacket- huuuuuuuh??".
You are just making yourself sound stupid while trying to sound right. If you want to talk about your opinion, just do it.

Is that really true tho
>>9405226
hugely underrated post
>>9405565
>>9405567
As with everything the various siegs post, there's a kernel of truth hidden within the trolling. It is silly to act superior because you buy brand A over brand B, but it's also silly to judge something's build or design based solely on whether or not you like it. Sure, design and style might not be purely objective, but things like material and proportion and execution can at least indicate what has or hasn't been thoughtfully put together.
>>9405565
id agree with him except drkshdw isnt diffusion. its made in the same factory as the mainline, its just that the materials and designs aren't as luxurious. lots of cotton jersey and denim street wear
fwiw about half my closet (which isnt much) is rick. i never 'vehemently defend' him or his clothes. i understand and appreciate his detractors. his designs are often emphasize dramatic lines, this can lead to cartoon-like outfits. i dislike a good portion of his designs which i think are too out there, tacky, ugly, or unwearable in a bad way. some pieces i wonder how they ever made it off the production floor. yoox and spence clothing are nice for seeing what kinds of abominations stayed on the shelf past clearance
>>9405713
The jersey/denim thing used to be true, but I actually think of it as just less delicate materials which are great for lazy assholes like me who don't dry clean everything. Polyamide lining vs silk lining, heavy moleskine vs wool, etc. That said, there are actually tons of DRKSHDW and Lilies pieces that are as expensive and sometimes even more expensive than mainline styles and frankly it's not worth comparing the three to each other. You buy each line for specific reasons and each version has its own pros and cons.
thanks for the laughs OP. haven't laughed at /fa/ this hard since ever.

>>9395982
kinda wish rick would tone it down just a bit.
This would be awsome shirt for the summer, if it were made of the same fabric, but cut like a normal but well fitting t shirt.
>>9396073
did you have a stroke or something?
>>9405800
Yeah but those exist bud. Most are long but you can just cut them
>>9396188
look mate, you are giving critics towards a topic that nobody requested.
You made a thread just to mock other's sense of fashion. This is not a reciprocate conversation neither a thread with an active feedback.
Just a bunch of retards throwing shit at each other because one initial retard started a post about insulting other's interest.
I'm not into avantgarde fashion, neither are you, stupid inbred. So why don't you stop making yourself look like a retard and delete this thread.
This thing looks like it was made by an edgy 14yrs old who just stumble with /fa/ 3 days ago.
So I'm just redirecting yourself to your usual cesspool. >>>/b/
when you wear rick, do you find it hard to incorporate it with other designers? or does your wardrobe slowly turn into all rick
>>9405856
>nobody requested a rick-hate thread so don't make one!
i'm sorry what
let me re-direct you to your hugbox cesspool
>>>/reddit/
>>9405857
and how do you do rick formally
to the beach?
hiking?
>>9405857
I think it's VERY easy to just wear Rick with more Rick because obviously it's all designed to be worn together and it's less about mix-and-match like other designers. That said, I find that the right pieces work with lots of other stuff. Rick's monochrome or textured knits can be pretty much thrown over anything and the tailored coats can easily be worn over other tailoring and it just is the one unusual contrast to the rest. I've seen Rick mixed with aggressive street stuff like Astrid Andersen and KTZ, with subversive tailored stuff like Komakino and Raf, and naturally it's an easy pairing with equally soft, slouchy stuff like Ann and Yohji.
>>9405864
Rick makes a ton of tailoring ranging from exaggerated tux jackets to shorter (bomber-length) blazers to tailored jackets cut to coat lengths. The pants were typically the more exaggerated component with mostly dropped rises and a variety of lengths, but they've introduced a slimmer, more straightforward pant silhouette since then.
As far as beach and hiking wear goes, I wear, well, things to go swimming and hiking in.
If you really want to wear Rick hiking or some shit, just wear DRKSHDW
So when can I buy the knit he wore at the men's fw15 show recently?
>>9405985
If it's from Sphinx, it'll be in stores by July-ish. If it's Preco, then maybe a few weeks earlier.
The Moody turtlenecks are similar, but with a less pronounced rib at the neck.

>>9396575
also i own quite a few of these and i usually just wear them with nude panties. there's nothing vulgar about it, but you should probably grow the fuck up because 4chan is only for adults
>>9406015
>there's nothing vulgar about it
except for the fact that it's see-through and you can entirely see your tits.
why would you wear something like that in public
>>9406018
>except for the fact that it's see-through and you can entirely see your tits.
yes, and?
>>9406021
you might as well just never wear a bra with that attitude

I could get one of those swat halloween costumes for $19.95 and honestly pass it off as this.

So I feel like a lot of the people say in criticism of RO is totally applicable to Julius. Julius is where it becomes a cartoon to me. Opinions?
>>9407836
It's applicable to any high end designer
>>9407836
Agreed. Julius always looks like rick ripoffs with an anime twist. I really never got the appeal of Julius, its one of the most cliche brands.
>>9399863
In other words, you have no argument. Good job lad.
>>9402829
So looking basic is good. We might as well all be grey blobs.

Second one is Rick Owens.
>>9399283
Here's a quote I like from Rick Owens regarding his time designing for the classic fur label Revillon:
“It’s about an elegance being tinged with a bit of the barbaric, the sloppiness of something dragging and the luxury of not caring. At Revillon, I felt it wasn’t about displaying one’s wealth, but rather giving the woman a selfish pleasure. It is about using sable as the lining under a very humble jacket, the luxury is all hers.”
Owens' own pieces reflect that, especially the base layers. They're made of very fine knit and soft fabrics that feel amazing. The pleasure of wearing them against your skin is all yours even if you decide to cover with another layer. One of my favorite pieces I own is a pair of Sruli Recht leggings that are made of an incredibly fine knit wool. Nothing else I own feels like them and the texture looks really cool. Like Rick tees they're basically see through, but that really says nothing about the quality of the piece.

>>9399587
base on ancient Egyptian headwear, I'd assume.
>>9395982
rick is made for tall, thin, rich people who look at the same price of a $70 as a $240 shirt. their breakfast costs more than their your three days of meals put together.
money for clothing means little when they're dealing with hundreds of thousands of dollars every month. it's something you wont grasp until you are at that point in your life. iktf though, i work at a 7 star. ya feel?
I'm going to have to agree with OP here. You're paying hundreds, even thousands of dollars to look like an idiot. No matter how effay you think you are, you will just look dumb to 90% of the people that see you.
>>9396122
i tell you what i can get you that there garmet for a lesser price.
