Mine are past 3 years of dailyish rough usage without being all torn up. If you're working construction or something, then yeah, they'll get destroyed, but not everyone is doing that. Hell, a lot of carpenters and such buy Red Wings even when they know they'll get destroyed just to keep their feet in good shape.

My wolverines fell apart by the time I finished tradeschool. Thorogood and its STS clones are terrible. Keen Utility has proven to be durable but the styles aren't very effay. I knew a guy who built Caterpillar equipment and got free CAT boots, and they held up very well.

Next I will probably try Timberland or a different Keen pair.

The thing that makes IR unsuitable as work boots isn't the quality, it's the design from the 1930s. They're uncomfortable as fuck. In years past it use to be a given your boots would be painful. In the 1800s you didn't even get a right or left boot.

Modern work boots feel like you're wearing a big running shoe.
