hey /fa/

im from the /cgl/ board and i basically have all of the popular harajuku street fashion down since its very cookie cutter, but when i browse /fa/, it just doesn't seem to be that way. im very confused as to what you all think is /fa/ and not. you dont really follow a formula for any of the styles, do you? i get that being unique and developing a personal style is as /fa/ as you can get, but first fundamentals have to be mastered.

basically what im asking is, how exactly do i get into /fa/? aside from following fashion designers and look at their seasonal collections. i also went through the sticky, but it doesnt actually answer my question.

>basically what im asking is, how exactly do i get into /fa/?
>find inspo pics you like and find cool
>study them, why you like them, why do they work, what makes them work
>repeat like a motherfucker
>start applying shit you learned to your own fits while being critical about your own fits
If everything went well
nigga you is effay
Also remember you will never know everything so don't just stop learning once you don't look like shit anymore.
>>
>>9049250
Also probably better if you see good fits irl and can study them, but it's easier to find ton of good ones from internet.
>>
>>9049250
thanks, but how would i know if i have shit taste or not aside from receiving snide comments or something. i mean, id rather not have to go through that or waste money. what if what i like is considered shit to 99% of all people?
>>
>>9049253
elaborate on studying? what does it mean to study an outfit you find appealing? what goes through your head when you critique one youve found?
>>
>>9049237
nice b8 m8 i r8 8/8
>>
>>9049256
>thanks, but how would i know if i have shit taste or not aside from receiving snide comments or something
There is no "shit taste" you can pull off any style basically. Don't just start buying clothes straight away either, dress like basic bitch until you are confident with the style you are going for and feel like you know enough to assemble a good fit on your own, you can always ask for critique on cop or not/fuccboi threads, but honestly, you should be kinda critical on the critique you get here as well.
Maybe for start just start collecting inspo pics, don't be too picky, if you see something you like, save it. Then when you have lot of pictures, go through them and try to think what you liked and why, it will develop your eye for shit like this.
Again better if you can do it live.
>>
>>9049267
>what goes through your head when you critique one youve found?
>why I like this? think colors, silhouette, details, the person wearing them, is it just the pic
>why it works? imagine the pics without one of the pieces or something else in the place of piece, if it was different color, the cuts, the build of the person wearing it, textures, co-existance with the other pieces in the fit
>could it be improved? could something be added or removed, without the idea behind the fit suffering and making it better
>can I actually use it? does it fit my body type, does it work with my style, does it go with my other clothes
There is more to it but that's the shit I go through at least.
Also it helps if a fit has a certain cloth you think you like but when you think about it critically you might realize it's some idea or shape the specific garment has that you like and you might have more options than the exact same piece in the picture.
>>
>>9049280
with fashion though, i dont think its necessarily "everything goes." If you like how one individual does their hair and you copy them, it might not suit your face shape or features, you see. how would i know what i like suits me? i dont think its realistic to assume i can pull off any style i want.
>>
>>9049301
its just something you learn through experimentation. like, I know I can't wear hightops because I'm 5'8 and they wouldn't look right with my pants anyways. you develop knowledge and apply it to your wardrobe/look. it sounds more abstract than it is.
>>
>>9049301
Find what styles suit your body shape, height etc.

Ask people if you look retarded or not. Don't dress too out of the ordinary unless you want to look retarded.
>>
>>9049301
>If you like how one individual does their hair and you copy them, it might not suit your face shape or features
True.
I meant more generally, like say you are into teddyboy style, there are good ways to rock it and there are bad ways to go for the style. You can find that good way to approach pretty much every style though it might be harder for some styles.

i see what you mean.

>>9049321
isnt 50% of what /fa/ wears out of the ordinary? high fashion designers dont want to be ordinary but create something new, so it natural followers are the same (except rick). at the moment i dress in lolita, but i try to be as subtle with it as i can because most people find the style "retarded" even though i am pretty confident with what i wear, otherwise i dont wear it. would a style like lolita be regarded as "retarded" no matter what because of its elements? lolita can never be /fa/? or only high fashion counts as /fa/?
>>
>>9049369
It can effay, but due to it's nature it comes off very 'costume-y' easily. I could see lolita inspired classic women's wear looking very good, don't let the fact that the style might be considered unorthodox fool you into thinking you can't look good while wearing it.
High fashion (depending on the designer though) is lot of time also considered silly by "ordinary" people because they might come off as costumes for them and they might look too out of the ordinary.

>aside from following fashion designers and look at their seasonal collections
You don't need to do this at all. Actually I'd advise you not to. You're just going to be one of those trend faggots that jump styles as soon as something new is hip and cool. Dress with what you're comfortable with and stick with that. If what you're currently wearing is what you're comfortable with then stick with that, just do it better. If you feel that you want to start moving towards another style then gradually incorporate elements from that style into your current style and phase out your old style. Hard switching costs a lot of money and doesn't very often produce good results because you're most likely not going to be very confident in your new style right off the bat, and you most likely don't have enough knowledge of the style right off the bat either.
>>
>>9049532
>. If you feel that you want to start moving towards another style then gradually incorporate elements from that style into your current style and phase out your old style.
Good advice, and in general it's a good idea to let "outside" influences affect you, if you like something that doesn't immediately strike you as something that is your style, find a way and work it to your style if you really like it.
That kinda stuff usually is the most interesting in my opinion and produces the most unique looking fits and styles.
>>
>>9049532
>You're just going to be one of those trend faggots that jump styles as soon as something new is hip and cool.
Not so much. Ive been true to myself for the most part. I jump on bandwagons because i genuinely like it , too , not for props. Good advice , though.
>>9049543
I agree with you. It is best to be open minded and treat the style as something with guidelines rather than rules. Seeing subtle and little personal effects on individuals in a crowd of people interpreting the same specific style is the most interesting.

Hey OP could you post some fits youve liked, or a fit of your own? I think it'd be cool if you were able to integrate your previous fits into fa so we'd needan idea of what you currently dress like.

pansexuals just have stages, or are just bi (meaning they don't about gender, they just want sex)
I have a friend who said she was straight, then got a gf and started calling herself pansexual
