already posted in the skirt thread

I made this myself. It is a multi pleated shorts - front and back - that gives the impression of a skirt. Designed the pattern etc. Also made some other stuff.

also made a poncho for ma gf. pic related
>>
>>8500322
are you a man?

thats pretty fucking weird man, but post your other stuff pls
>>
>>8500322
I thought the interior construction was really poor when you posted the pictures of it, fwiw
>>
>>8500339
that looks pretty sweet, is that cotton and pleather?
>>
>>8500340
yes I am a man > see hairy legs
right now also working on a pair of modified pod shorts. Will post pictures shortly but I'm mid construction so don't expect anything great.

>>8500342
I didn't add any lining because I wanted it to be as light as possible and the wool fabric already feels great, though I have to say that nowadays I'm a little more experienced and probably would add lining. But the seams are all neat and tidy. No repairs yet.

>>8500344
Yes. It's thick cotton felt and pleather
>>
>gf is studying fashion design

Does anyone know any good books on sewing and patterning? She wants to improve her technique over the summer~
>>
>>8500372
well the video i posted covers a lot of sewing techniques and there are more videos from that channel

i used to help my grandma to do patterns by drawing what you want to make in a sheet of paper then imagining the panels of the garment and drawing the lenght lines like a real pattern

please excuse photo quality only have my phone atm
>>
>>8500407
sick af dude, keep up the good work
>>
>>8500403

back looks great, thats the hardest part to pull off imo. i don't like the front, the transition into the drop is too harsh, looks added on or something. nice work.
>>
>>8500553
thank you. I'll keep you guys updated

>>8500587
yeah I might have to correct my front pattern. Thanks for pointing it out, I knew something was off but I couldn't quite figure out what.
>>
>>8500363
Lol the seams are absolutely not tidy. Your pods are going to need more ease too, if you actually plan to walk in them.
>>
>>8500322
didn't you say you that skirt is comme de garcons?

I might try to DIY something to make this kind of pattern in the future.
Would need some sort of fabric paint, would depend on the material too.

I was wondering, Knoch makes a lot of his own clothes, but how long would it take to learn to do that from scratch?
I might be doing a fashion course, but I'd really like to give it a shot.

I made this design.
>>
>>8501501
By 'made' this design, do you mean you dropped an image onto a t-shirt?
>>
>>8500908
that's kind of like saying "how long will it take for me to get swole from working out?"

it really really depends on how hard you're trying
>>
>>8501505
Tisci does it at 700 bucks a pop
>>
>>8501517
overly-simplistic thinking but okay
>>
>>8501520 Can't you see this obviously a ripoff of givenchy. I only made it to show how hackey they are. like fucking pyrex.
>>
>>8501513
It doesn't. Learning sewing is the "how hard you're trying" part which everybody can learn. making cool clothes from scratch is TALENT

you can try forever, if you don't have talent you won't make shit

>>8500908
Don't compare yourself to Knoch, you won't reach him.
>>
>>8500883
The ease of the pod shorts is actually quite good. I don't even struggle walking up the stairs or jogging. Only running would be hard I guess.

I don't have an overlock and the machine I use is 20 years old and doesn't have a very good program for cleaning the seams. But the seams are tight, not fraying, and noone is seeing it when im wearing the shorts.

Obviously there's room for improvement but I'm still content with my work.

>>8500897
Didn't articulate myself correctly there. It's only based on their design. If you look closely you see that my pleats are going inwards

pleats here are going outwards: https://www.ssense.com/men/product/comme_des_garcons_homme_plus/black-pleated-wide-leg-shorts/91402
>>
>>8500322
are you studying fashion?
>>
>>8501532
>don't compare yourself to Knoch

I didn't compare myself, but alright.
You /fa/ggots really do have a God complex with him, don't you?

>n-never say anything bad about Knoch!
Pretty sure he doesn't like any of us because we drove him away like we do with every interesting person we have.
Take the dick out of your ass mate.
>>
>>8501652
nope. just a hobby of mine. But next to /fa and some fashion blogs I put all the free time I have into it
>>
>>8501656
>god complex

all I'm saying is that he has talent which isn't easy to come by

true but practice is very important because whats the point of having the tools when you dont know how to use them

i´ve been wanting to make a dress like Dior´s cruis 2015 where Raf layered various printed and uniform fabrics to make a cleveage or a whole top

>>
How do you get fabric?
>>
>>8502081
You go to a fabric store. You find a fabric you like. You ask the sales representative to cut as much as you want.
>>
>>8502081
if it's just for practice then goto the swap meet and you can get a long ass roll of whatever for like $0.50 a yard
>>
>>8502093
hahaha that reminds me the first time i went to cop fabric thread and buttons, for everything it was like $50 for two small rolls of thread, like 3m of cotton felt and some buttons and a mannequin is like $5

damn, i can live out of this if i ever get to make proper garments

btw any suggestions or things to keep in mind while copping a mannequin? should it be mad of something in specific or what about the measurements?

>>8502108
Do you mean a form? Get an adjustable one, especially if you're making clothes for yourself
>>
>>8500127
No way. I was in a class taught by this lady years ago.
>>
>>8502115
Adjustable mannequins are useless.
>>
>>8502152
does the fabric move or what? the ones that are sold at my local fabric shop are solid mannequins, like the ones you see in almost all backstage interviews

>>8502115
how much do they cost?
>>
>>8502108
you should do what they do in mythbusters and make a bust using your proportions by like making that mold and filling it with that rubbery stuff

that would make a perfect dress form for your proportions
>>
>>8502108
If you can invest in a Wolf dress form, do it. It will last forever. PGM dress forms work if you're on a budget. If you're lucky, you can sometimes find both of these brands used. Don't buy an adjustable dress form unless you want a piece of useless garbage.
>>
>>8502184
hmmm it sounds very nice but right now money is very importnat to me and i dont know how much would it cost to make a custom bust and finding some materials is very hard for me

maybe i´ll go for the adjustable mannequin if i eer find one, thanks anyways

>>
what's a good cheap sewing machine to use
>>
>>8502575
Brother, Juki, old Singers (limited functionality though). Brother is my favorite brand for modern household-tier though.
>>
>>8501641
You can sew clean seams with a straight stitch. No more excuses, pick up a book and start learning.
>>
>>8502344
how does that work? you make your clothes and then sell them?

i´ve been thinking on doing that via /fa/ and ebay
>>
>>8504363
i have a bigcartel

the shirt has a 3m strip down middle you want one m8?
>>
>>8504385
$5 shipped rn m8 take it

its that. ill get a pic of the shirt up soon but if you want to order one now there it ism8
>>
>>8504385
now i know how to make money for rather cheap

i need still some help tho

i´m want to make garments out of scrap and maybe custom made garments to sell them over /fa/ and other fashion sites

i.e. a fuccboi on /fa/ sends me some inspo pics for me to design him a new garment piece, i design it and send him the sketch, lets say a new jacket, he sends me his measurements and then i start making the garment, it will take me like a week or so and lets say like $50 for fabric, electricity and labour and then sell it to him for like $60 including shipment, but he has to send some money first for me to buy the materials, something like a contract, if he doesnt want it anymore, i can send some money back, not all because i´ve already made the garment custom made and then sell it to another person

will i make it /fa/? is this doable?
>>
>>8504568
yeah if you do it like that

would b neet tho
>>
>>8504580
oh wow, finally i recovered tracks on life, i tought i was going to work in a shitty goverment office for the rest of my life

thanks m8
>>
>>8504614
u shuld preorder a condensor shurt tho

it will help you achieve ur dreams

http://minimalhappiness.bigcartel.com/product/condenser-001-prototype-pre-order
>>
>>8504624
i still cant figur out the product thing,

in terms of regular garments, can i make lets say three jackets for each standard sizing and then sell them? would that be like 9 products of my 5 product limit or it would be just one product because its one garment but with three units and in three sizings
>>
>>8504696
you get one main product with infinite options(size/color)

so with the condesor tees that is one product with multiple size options
>>
>>8504568
you will soon realise that a jacket made from scratch and fit to measurements is way more work than 60$. You should take at least 300-500$ if it's quality clothing
>>
>>8505197
don't bother, he's a retard who can't sew a straight line, do you really think he could make something that would sell?

it was a supposition, ofc i´m not charging $60 for a jacket

>>8505215
you could never know, pic related was tailored by myself, i know i have to learn more, i´m not going to make some jackets this week and sell them straight on
>>
>>8505296
looks pretty good to me!
>>
>>8505524
wow you can't even tell what he has tailored because there is no before pic and the quality is shit

this thread is garbage
>>
>>8501706
How do I into making my own shit?
>>
>>8505972
If you have to ask, you don't.
>>
>>8505980

>>

Didn't mean to reply to that.
>>
>>8505994
Doesn't matter.

If you have to ask the how and if for something creative you won't make it.
>>
>>8505996
Wow. You're so effay.
>>
>>8506011
wow you're a mongrel

asking how to will just get you working in sweat shop not making your own clothing
>>
>>8505296
