When people think of fashion they think of NYC first because of the enormous fashion district here and the fact that majority of mainstream relevant celebrities and fashion events happen here.

NYC has fashionable people from all across the globe and the main reason why when you think of super fashion cities.

NYC is the first place you think of.

The thread thumbnail proves that.
>>
>>12752292
There are fashionable people in New York but New Yorkers are not fashionable.
t. New Yorker.
>>
If you've ever spent a minute in Milan, you'd agree in saying it's the most /fa/
>>
In my experience, Stockholm, and I've been to Japan, NZ, Aus and most of Europe.

Portsmouth is pretty /fa/ too. Some random tiny towns can be pretty comfy too
>>
>>12751669
Most high density pedestrian cities have well dressed people. They're usually skinnier from walking, more culturally aware thanks to museums and contemporary art/music events, and they have a higher level of vanity thanks to being seen by thousands and thousands of people every day.

I lived in LA for over a decade, and I think it's art/music/food/etc is underrated and often under the radar, but I'll still admit that the average level of dress and taste I'd see in dense pedestrian-friendly cities is way higher.

kyoto is up there if you like traditional Edo-period clothing since you're likely to see a sizable chunk of the population wearing exactly that.
in tokyo there are some people with amazing style and the general population doesn't fuck up the average by dressing like trash.
at a bare minimum, men will be wearing crisp white slim shirts, a black tie and slim black trousers, and women will wear wide leg cropped pants (in some tasteful dark color) and an off-white or horizontal stripped loose top.
And if you hang out near the imperial palace where the good hotels are, you'll see people walking around in full yohji, CDGH et al

They have a distinct culture and a distinct style. But they arent on the high end of fashion anymore

>>
>>12754169
New york has the crazy street vagabond vibe going for it, but does anyone look to it for fashion advice anymore? what the boutique goodwill outfit fit, yeah sure.

Leaders in fashion have moved over seas or too LA. In my opinion of course, didn't think it needed to be explained that I was stating my opinion, but I guess I need to
>>
>>12752430
I've known a lot of swedes from Stockholm. They definitely have a higher standard of dress/hygeine, but imo, they also dress very conservatively.

>>12752556
Madrid women +1. There's something in the water there.
>>
>>12752430
I mean the only cities in Europe that really affect fashion globally are Milan and Berlin. Maybe I'm missing something.

Japan has no cultural influence worldwide outside of anime, neither does NZ or Aus
>>
What's the most /fa/ British city? I have to go there in a year for internship
>>
>>12752631
You obviously don't live in any of those three cities. The average new yorker dresses like shit. In Milan, everyone wears the same outfit just at different price points. I don't know about Hong Kong, but if it's anything like Shanghai, it's filled to the brim with asian hypebeasts. You can't really judge a city's fashion by just looking at what's being worn at the high street - you have to look at the city's population as a whole, which you can't unless you've lived there, or have been there for longer periods of time.

In my experience, the best dressed city is either Copenhagen or Berlin, because the fits of the average citizen are decent.
>>
>>12755356
Bro, the fact that you said Berlin as an option is more than enough to justify throwing your opinion in the fucking trash.

one thing that never fails to crack me up about /fa/ is there's always a few Toronto bois trying to stick their name in the race and build up some sort of image about Toronto being a /fa/ city.

Am newyorker born and raised. We're known for fashion but if we're talking overall, it's not NYC.

Yeah there are well dressed people out and about in manhattan and brooklyn, some areas of queens. The majority of people here don't give a fuck though, are very average and slob looking. Still a more fashionable city than most places and sometimes you see people wearing toned down runway style stuff.. but overall it's mostly just streetwear or sweaty fat people in stained shirts and shorts.

If you asked me, i'd have to say Seoul from what i've seen. The way average people dress there is what's considered being fashionable in the west, and then once in a while you see people decked out in expensive/rare brands.

Gonna dump some pics from 10 minutes on google street view in seoul.

NYC is literally the only place relevant in terms of fashion. Everyone knows this, the only reason people are picking these lesser obscure places is to seem more poised and "refined taste" oriented.

Its like that kid who hates things just cause they're the most popular. Actually I think that might be a social disease now-a-days since people will do ANYTHING to stand out.

Some places in NYC can dress extremely well.

For instance, SoHo, Bushwick, Bed Stuy, East Williamsburg. Generally people within a "scene" -- whether it's techno, DIY punk, or uhhh whatever other scene there is ??? here can dress well, but there's also a lot of people who don't really interact with anyone and dress autistic. Also a lot of Hells Kitchen type muscle gays who dress like absolute turd.

About half the city is people who work in finance and just go home to their shoebox apartment in manhattan they spend 5,000 a month for. I wonder why these people stay here, they're just killing the culture further and making it more horrible.

I don't think NYC is a mecca of fashion, though, just because it's produced here. I think people dress better abroad, but there is something here...that's quite on the pulse, and a lot of trends are developed.

Just ride the JMZ or L train on a Friday night. Very different vibe from midtown at 7 pm.
>>
>>12758493
Most europeans actually have more of an interest in art as self-expression rather than a as a status commodity, leading to better fashion instead of just buying rare 1200 dollar SUPREME jackets and other things.

America is dead as a place for fashion depsite a lot of it being produced here because of capital fetishization and the need to express one's status/wealth through items of clothing, not personality.
>>
>>12752292

Not even memeing, Ive never heard anybody talk about NYC when fashion gets mentioned. Paris and Milan are probably the first citys most people will think off

ironic you say that. my bro lives in nyc and works in very high finance and pays 6k monthly in rent. for him its just normal. On the one hand I love the style and energy of the city. in the other hand being not in finance means i can't afford Manhattan unless I live in a shit hole, and most nice places in Brooklyn require finance jobs too. It's not one uniform aesthetic but you see well put together streetwear kids, clean-cut suit-and-tie types downtown, hipsters, goth/punk/alt types and whatever outlandish but still effay LGBT trends are in style represented all over.

Only thing that brings it down at all are some of the techies who dress like absolute autismos 24/7 because their job has no real dress code.
