Well why not, sorry for the blog: I'm new to the city and got out with some new recent met people, then I proceeded to take a cab back to my apartment and when guiding the guy who didn't have any idea where the fuck he was (literally had to explain him how to go back) I also made a mistake and had to walk 5 blocks, then a guy in a hoodie appeared from a park, I crossed and he did too and then it was obvious, the guy stood a couple meters from me and told me to drop everything I had to the ground or else he'll shoot me, of course I almost threw a number 2 instead but I did, then he said "shoes too" and well fuck it, better naked than dead and that's about it, reported and still nothing

i'm looking to buy some winter boots -- preferably all black. something that can stand up to canadian/northern us weather. anyone have any recommendations? thanks in advance.
>>
My only boots are CDB's and I hate the shape of them. Want to get something else but I'm still poor, so trying to find a boot under $150.

Wrestling with the following decisions: color(black vs brown), brand(so far considering Docs, golden fox, chippewa, palladium), and style/build.

What combo would work best? I was leaning towards Docs, but they(and chippewa too looks like) get a lot of shit over here. Also I usually dress more like a folk-rock singer than the punk type people usually lend to Docs.
But then again, the CDB's are still in good shape, so I guess I'd be in greater need of black boots than another brown.

Not sure which direction to take, any advice much appreciated
>>

>>
>>12710157
>>12710187
i mean, ofc dressing like a folk singer is a bit of a hyperbole, 90% of my shoes are still sneakers, I just meant to say i lean a bit more that way than a punk aesthetic.

Would chippewas still be the most versatile pick in general?
>>
>>12710256
Docs and Chippewas are both very versatile but if you lean towards folk rock more than towards punk the Chippewas will be more versatile. I'm kinda in the same boat, I mostly wear sneakers or Wolverine boots but I bought some austrian memes for when I want to dress more punk and for serious innawoods

just got some iron rangers (my first real pair of boots).
im not really liking the laces they come with and they seem to be a bit short as well. when i tie up all the speed hooks, i can barely make a bow at the end.

whats a good lace replacement for these?
specifically the boots are the 8085 model in copper.

and also, whats some recommended care products I should get for these? Should i just stick with what redwing recommends on their website?

thursday boots look a bit dressier, at least to me since the toe is a bit pointed.
not sure what you wear on a daily basis but if it matches that style, id say go for it.
it will definitely make you look classier than the rest of the kids your age.
unless thats something you dont want to go for.
>>
>>12713426
They should be able to reach the top the more you wear them as the leather forms to your foot. Skip the topmost hooks until then. As for care products, I stick to what the manufacturer recommends. I also like having a welt brush.

I really like the small reflective bits of metal (are they shoestring holders?)
>>
>>12714495
oooooh those are nice
>>
>>12714394
Wolverines go with a button up imo until they get dinged up a bit. I mean I still wear mine with casual button ups but they've probably just about reached the end of looking nice with a dress shirt and jeans after a couple months of light wear. I guess you could polish them if you really feel like it but the leather isn't really designed to be polished, and I think Thursday uses very similar leathers even though the silhouette is dressier. Look for calfskin if you want that polishable dress shoe look.

>>12714474
I just use conditioner. Anything beeswax based is fine, I use Oakwood. Mine needed many many coats of conditioner when I first got them. The leather is very thick and mine were almost completely dry. Don't be afraid to use too much, if you do it'll just come up to the top and you can wipe it with a rag. When you're done the surface should feel slightly waxy even after you let the conditioner sit for several minutes.
>>
>>12709967
Thanks m80
>>
>>12714474
I just use beeswax based leather balm

also:i'm not sure if my feet are just weird but all the third eylets seem to be pulling; if you have the same problem just lace them straight up to the fourth eyelet instead of going across. It'll be comfier to squat but may slightly impair any waterproofing
>>
>>12714690
Waterproofing should be fine, the tongues are gusseted. Funny that you're having that issue though, the tongues are so wide I imagine they'd be comfy even if you have insanely high/oddly shaped arches (mine are only a little high and wide)

You won't find anything cheaper than Thursdays and you won't find anything good from an actual shoemaker for under $300. Loake is probably the best bet for brogue boots. Churchs, Trickers, C&J will be more $$$ and are rarely on sale.

could you link to or briefly detail an idiot's guide to boot upkeep? ordered some paramemes as the first non-synthetic boot I've ever had, and I'd like to keep them in good condition. most things I see online are catered towards women with low-quality bonded shit, the """work"""wear heritage crowd who all have brown boots, or the soak-em-in-the-toilet-with-hand-soap type, and most things they say conflict besides conditioning and some form of water-damage-prevention

I'm looking for a boot that can meet the following criteria:

> Black leather w/ Black Sole
> Dainite, Commando, or Rubber Sole
> Cap Toe w/ Speed Hooks
> Can be worn with a suit in a pinch
> No Steel Shank/TSA-Friendly
> Cordovan Leather if possible (Not as important as the other criteria)

I'm normally an Alden fan, but I'm tired of taking off my boots every time I go through security checkpoints.

So far, I'm looking at:
> Crockett & Jones Northcote (Picture Attached)
> End. x Tricker's Toe Cap Boot (Out of stock & Pebble Grain Leather)
> Allen Edmonds Sullivan Street (Two-Toned design is strange)
> Loake Hyde Boot (No Speed Hooks & May or May not have a Steel Shank)

Am I missing any other obvious options?

yeah I saw that but he keeps saying throughout that this is bare bones stuff and further research should be done, and he doesn't mention conditioning, which I think is important . I got a pair of gr1 boots without damage or dirtiness anyway, so I just want to check if something besides waxing and polishing would be worthwhile (I have basically no conception of where the snake oil line of overcomplication is)
>>
>>12715463
Step 3 is conditioning. Anything beyond wax/conditioner and polish (for routine care at least) is snake oil imo but I say that because I'm happy with simply wax and polish (or lotion and polish for calfskin dress shoes).

i just got a pair of red wings that i plan on using every day for work. I work at a warehouse all day so i know my feet will eventually get sweaty during the day.
the past workboots ive worn were just cheap leather work boots from sketchers so i never really bought any care products for it.
but since these boots are much more expensive i figured i should take care of them but I dont want to feel like im "babying" them, since they are gonna be my primary work boot.

I'm interested in buying my first boots. I was thinking to go basic af and cop either classic Timbs or 1460 Docs. Of course they are different but which one should I consider? Also I read that original Docs would be made by someone else, should I look for these or just buy straight from Docs?

Also feel free to talk me out of this and recommend something else.

So I have a pair of steel toe Solovairs that have been perfectly comfortable for about a whole year but suddenly when i put them on yesterday the left one started killing my Achilles tendon. It's not a rubbing or abrasive feeling but more of a bruising feeling, like the boot is bending inward and pressing against the tendon. I don't understand what the fuck happened as I take good care of the boots, and the right boot seems to bend inward at the ankle in the same way yet causes no pain. Any solutions for this or similar problems any of you may have had? It can't be a matter of breaking them in because I've been wearing them regularly for almost a year.

This is dumb. It's about proportions. If you have proportionally long legs, you can afford to cut them down a bit with tall boots. Hell, you can even get away with purposely shortening your torso.

But, I know that's not what we're really talking about. What we're really talking about is "why the hell would I ever want to make myself look any shorter"? The answer to that one is "you're a faggot if you care that much". There's some short ass Asian guys I've seen killing shit that people would tell them not to wear and it's only possible because they aren't self conscious about it.

All that being said, it's just boots. It's not platform shoes, or Chelsea's with big ass Cuban heels or anything, so it's pretty safe regardless.

What is /fa/'s vision on brogue boots? I am thinking about a pair of grenson boots
>>
>>12730390
what are they for? casual, work (what level of formality), going to second period humanties?
>>

>can't wear boots during summer

Can someone help me into Kommando store? How come it is so cheap? What is the catch? Is it /fa/ approved?
>>
>>12730449
it's /k/ approved
>>
>>12730452
Yeah I've never even been to the board, so I don't know if they are just a bunch of altright, tankie cucks or whatever
>>
>>12730458
Are you new to 4chan, dude?
>>
>>12730449
why question a good thing? i've bought from them multiple times, with no real issues. Once my order got delayed for a while because of a warehouse issue, but besides that it's been great
>>
>>12730461
no I'm just a shitty /b/tard

versatile wear in the winter, with slim navy/black jeans but not dressier than smart casual.

I am in doubt whether to go for the brown ones or full black. I rarely wear brown and black seems even more versatile
>>
>>12730452
>>12730465
Well thanks gents, just bought some Austrian paratroops
>>
>>12730504
black are a lot dressier...a lot.

don't wear them with jeans.
>>
>>12730509
So, what's the deal with these over, say, Corcoran Jump Boots? Besides these are cheap, used (gross), and don't have a cap toe?

Corcoran jumps don't have a modern sole. Be better off comparing them to Corcoran plain toe work boots. The deal is it's surplus. A really well made boot that's done a lot of hard living. Already come with scratches, some lose threads and wear on the soles. Surplus is a crapshoot. Out of 3 pairs of Austrian memes I haven't gotten any that have been in excellent condition or anything. I would call em beater boots but the only purpose boots serve is to be beat on.

Brogue boots are the lowest formality level of ‘formal shoes’. They’re often paired with tweed sport coats in smart-casual fits.

>>12730504
Think about your long-term shoe/boot collection. I think you’d be better off with a casual brown brogue boot and a dressier black cap toe boot. It’s ultimately up to your style preferences.

Outfit ideas?
>>
>>12730564
>>12730606
I was so confused when I got them and they were used, had muck stuck in the sole grooves
>>
What's a good, extremely casual boot for everyday use that you can wear with shorts?

Raw jawns, light blue OCBD and a chore coat.
>>12730768
RO Glitter Army boots.
>>
>>12730768
Don’t do it. It’s a very feminine look, especially if you don’t already know what you’re doing.

Chukkas are the best option if you do go for it.
>>
Anybody own a pair of Everyday Hero Zimmermans? I fucking love the silhouette but I don't know anything about the quality of them.

yeah and we're talking about some 15yo trying to spend his birthday money, he obviously didn't know, evidenced by saying he'll wear them with jeans.
>>
>>12730606
Alright, so pretty much just not worth it/the worst option if you're looking for a military style, tall, black boot. Gotcha.

Never seen anyone wearing the Corcoran Trooper, just the jump boots.

can you wear suede boots in col weather
>>
>>12730972
No, they'll fly off your feet.
>>
>>12730972
dude..are you retarded? look out your window.

is it raining/snowing? then no.
>>
>>12730829
Brogue boots are fine with the non-distressed jeans that /fa/ usually recommends. I wouldn’t normally pair black footwear with navy pants, but he could make it work depending on the rest of the outfit.

I do agree that brogue boots aren’t a good purchase if he doesn’t already have the basics covered.

Shitty, cheap boots. But they serve their purpose, if you want cheap boots to stomp and romp around in then go for it. Idk, there's so much chinkshit floating around labeled as "Made in England" so beware for shit products.

Don't get me wrong tho, rangers make me hard af.

>>
>>12732012
So they're shitty but they last or what do you mean? I trust these boots I'm buying, they're from a local military store.
>>
>>12732147
They'll last if you follow the routine that makes boots last

>let them dry after a day of wear
>if you wear them in shitty weather, LET THEM DRY FFS
>wipe off dust and dirt after every wear with a damp cloth (not wet, damp, use an old t-shirt or a towel for this)
>rotate a few pairs of shoes with them, don't wear your boots everyday (see point one)
>polish every 1-2 weeks, use mink oil and/or saddle-grease
>swap the insoles for comfier ones, your feet will thank you later

Nothing lasts forever, but I think you'll get a decent amount of wear from these, granted that they don't start cracking or splitting from the leather or anything.
