Trying to get ideas on how to make this style work on warmer/summer climates, I remember how the concept art for the first Mirror's Edge game had some sketches like pic related.

Now, the aesthetics for the runners were inspired by the bike couriers from early 2000s IIRC. But, given that the clothes are made with the right materials, could something like this work as techwear for the aforementioned needs?
>>
>>12665316
It most probably can, but you'll have to give it a try and see what happens
>>

YES.

>>12665316
Cool dry materials all over, your underwear, socks, and shirt. Make sure those pants breath. maybe throw on a vest or a pack with little pockets on the strap(s)

Last thread I was talking about pairing some Superdomes with a flecktarn surplus parka some some tapered and/or cropped rothco cargos. A guy said they might be too sporty. Anyone have some alternative footwear I should try pairing with them? Any suggestions will be welcome, even those unrelated to footwear.

Can anyone recommend me a North Face jacket for around -25 degrees?
>>
>>12667382
Why wear one jacket when you can layer?
>>
>>12665611
Everyone says it's amazing, but I can't say from experience.
>>
>>12665611
i'm wearing their ultrafine merino right now and its amazingly comfy.

i took two of them on a two month trip to asia and i rotated them everyday and only had to wash them once a week. you can wear them for a week and they'll never stink unless you get shit on them. dont have any experience with their pants tho.
>>
>>12667382
at -25 you want a hardshell and layer the fuck up, lined shell or just straight up puffer jacket or the like
>>
Why is /fa/ so dead?
>>
Jesus tech wear costs a lot. If I just get a UEG shell and wear some Uniqlo thermal shit under can I still be /techwear/?

I don't have a spare 8 grand for clothes.
>>
>>12669769
Usual OP for the most recent threads here.
Things are definitely slow, not just for this thread alone.
I wanted to wait a bit for more F/W news and stuff before kicking off the winter jacket hype, but I have nice friends here who keep the threads up when I fail to do so.
I'll be back later in the month with more inspo and hopefully more news on stuff like the 11 x Salomon Alpines, etc.
>>12670031
Yeah man, work with your budget. Tyvek will not last long, but if you hunt around you can find cheap goretex like this nike for example https://www.grailed.com/listings/1585955-Goretex---Nike-Nike-Goretex-Jacket
>>

>>
>>12670031
As with all stuff, the clothes you wear can be as expensive as you want. There are expensive designer clothes that cost so much because they are produced in small batches and retards buy them, and there is mass-produced clothing that may or may not be particularly stylish.
Techwear doesn't mean "ninja cosplay", but "clothes that use technical materials and construction techniques that allow for better performance". Just find something that falls within your pricerange, but still has breathability/water resistance/full range of movement, etc. There are good sports and hiking brands that do that.

If you are purely for aesthetics, however, I think there are a few mainstream brands that have started to make shit with your regular cotton and nylon, that don't offer much in terms of tech, but will help you achieve that "I like books by Gibson" look without spending as much money as on a new car.
>>
So I got a black rain parka. Looks like an m51. In hindsight I should have gotten olive but it's too late now. What can I wear with it so that it doesn't look like a school shooter coat but instead /techwear/. I wore it once with tapered cargos and a turtleneck.
>>
>>12671256
You could go for more color in other places like the pants being olive instead.
Wear sportier shoes and avoid boots.
You can DIY a jacket sling so you can just wear it casually around when it's not raining and not look like you might have a sawn off in your coat.
>>
live
>>
I am looking for some sort of pants that can be used as both everyday clothing, and are suitable for riding a bicycle in the colder weather. So preferably something that allows for a wide range of movement, but doesn't look like something that construction workers wear.
Bonus points for breathability and some sort of water resistance.

Must be available in EU with delivery to eastern Europe. Because some stores like Uniqlo just don't deliver here.
>>
This shit is autistic.I have never seen this style being worn in public. If I ever saw one of you ninja autists at college in this I'd laugh and then call campus security and then laugh some more. It looks like it should cost 50 dollars but instead is 5000 dollars. That is a car.
>>
>>12673725
There is techwear and there is techwear. Autists will pay huge amount of money for expensive designer clothes that they like. It's their money, let them do what they want.

Then there are clothes that use technical materials because they are used in harsh conditions - mostly sports, outdoors, mountaineering brands. Good quality stuff that is supposed to help you out when you are out there. Yes, they don't look like urban ninja cosplay, but they do their job.

What pisses me off is the people who think that shit like Acronym or ACG is functionally better than Patagonia or Black Yak. Opinion disregarded immediately.
>>
>>12673734
Actually ACRNM uses bleeding edge materials better than TNF or Patagonia by far and the design is actually far beyond anything from those outdoor brands. There is no brand more avant garde than ACRNM. So yea, they kind of are "functionally better". That is the whole point.
>>
>>12673742
Could you please provide some examples? Because what I saw was mainly cotton, nylon and sometimes membranes like gore-tex, with some water-repellent coating sometimes. Maybe I missed something, because admittedly, I didn't look into it too much.
>>
>>12673747
Hard shells are all goretex pro, in summer they change that ventile, they've done packable jackets in windstopper and they use a lot of schoeller materials too for things like trousers
>>
>>12673742
>>12673767
Goretex Pro and Ventile are not "bleeding edge materials". Goretex Pro is the standard high-end for jackets, and Ventile was invented during WW2. Neither of them are magic materials, and nobody uses Ventile in serious conditions. Goretex Pro also lags on breathability compared to some other newer materials.
>>
>>12673828
I was only arguing the point of "what I saw was mainly cotton, nylon and sometimes membranes", chill
>>
>>12673832
Sorry, that wasn't me, I just asked the question. Thanks for providing with info.
But I do agree with the other guy that these materials are not anything new. All of that stuff can be found in sports, outdoors and mountaineering clothing.
>>
>>12674479
It's true they're not anything new, but still nice to know they at least use the right materials, that said still not my thing
>>
>>12673742

Surplus gear is on the lower end of tech since it's mass produced and made as cheaply as possible to be supplied to a large number of troops.
A lot of it is still good stuff though, and with a little DIY or styling you can definitely pull it off.

Also asking about Outlier. Really looking for tech/out pants that look like low profile slim/straight pants, preferably in black. I see alot about Outlier pants being prone to snagging or anything sharp. The futureworks implies it's the more durable outlier pant but I can't find a definite about snagging. Im looking for a pant woth similar look and function, that is either sharp stuff proof, or maybe just cheaper.
>>
>>12677197
OG climbers would be the way to go then. 4-way stretch and very durable. There's also Mission Workshop that you can look at.
>>
I thought I remember those ones specifically being susceptible to sharp stuff? Like even outlier themselves say it. Anyway, thank you, and I'll check out mission. I live in a very brambly wilderness and most people just wear carhart all day everyday.

There's a certain idealism that permeates in tech-wear that you have to dress like you're from the year 20XX and should look like a Cybercop when all you're doing is getting in your suburban sedan to go get Starbucks and drive home.
Sure you can ham things up for fashion's sake, but techwear draws influences from fictional sources like Gibson's works or the Mirror's Edge that guy posted.
At some point, it can and will look like cosplay. It's no different than when the movie Drive came out and every kid on the block wanted a quilted bomber with a scorpion on the back of it.

Yeah, none of which have the backing and outreach that goretex has. The only one's that have come close are Schoeller's C Change, and Polartec's Neoshell.

Times are changing, but goretex is still king.

This is what I wore today. What can I do to improve this? Is layering a windbreaker over a hoodie bad? It's extremely light-weight and pretty water resistant unlike the hoodie. The phone is my real phone btw but it's not really important to the fit.
>>
>>12688244
>Yeah, none of which have the backing and outreach that goretex has
That is entirely besides the point, there is no monopoly on gore tex, it's probably the one with most brand recognition but calling it monopoly and the reason shells are expensive is some grade A horseshit.
And to be honest technical jackets really aren't that expensive, outerwear in general costs a lot.
> The only one's that have come close are Schoeller's C Change, and Polartec's Neoshell.
I would say as far as brand recognition goes, eVent and hyVent are probably the next best known. As far as the technical properties go, it really doesn't matter what you pick, there is really no clear 'winner' in the category who is ahead of the others.

thrash the shoes for starters, the qasa boots are mad fucking ugly
>>
>>12688693
Well I already bought them and I like them plenty that I'm more willing to change the rest fit for the fit to better suit them.
>>
>>12688701
> I'm more willing to change the rest fit for the fit to better suit them.
That really isn't going to help, the design is just really bad, the shape is awkward as hell and I have never seen a single fit where they have looked good.
I mean I don't particularly like normal Qasas that much personally, but I understand the appeal and I can still appreciate the design. The boots are just abomination, there is a reason they went on really steep sales on lot of places recently.

Yeah, I guess the idea was to refresh the Qasa a bit. It's gotten really old and stale over the years and I think it's on its way out. There are plenty of shoes within the aesthetic that are new and fresh.
>>12688669
You're new, and that's okay. You can try to make the boots work but Y-3 tends to work well with only other Y-3. I would instead go for some shoes like the Nike Mercurials for a sporty fit like this.
The watch can be off-putting for a techier vibe. Perhaps cheaper-end G-shock would be better fitting. I have one that was $40 and not gigantic like most of the G-shock line.

If their claims are to be believed, then yes. But we don't know how the coat will fare in actual real-life scenarios.
A lot of clothing items that claim to be waterproof have some issues with that when used in heavy rain. Breathability is also iffy.

I don't know, I am tempted to get one just out of curiosity to see how well it works. But I have my doubts about actual performance of materials.
And my rock-climbing experience tells me that the harness definitely looks unsafe.

Like, Acronym, but cheap, or something cheap by their standards?
If first, then it's very unlikely, it's expensive designer clothing. That's kinda their point - small amounts are produced, and you pay a lot of money to get their items.
Your best bet would be to find someone who sells used items, I guess, but even then resellers usually raise the price, so you'd have to be lucky.

If you just want something from them that is cheaper than $2k jackets, just browse their shop when the next batch drops, and look for something a bit cheaper.

First off, the posters in here aren't me.

Second. this is long overdue, but here is my apology.

By the way, before I start, I know I wasn't being serious enough before - this is because I didn't really understand what you were attempting to build with the TWG discord in actuality. So if this is jarring, know it was because I didn't seriously consider your merit as a moderator, which was my fault, not yours.

I'm truly, publicly sorry for posting about you on /fa/ and other discords, and for being a shit stirrer on TWG. I didn't fully comprehend the difficulty of running a server, of juggling 20 different personalities at once, and how my actions made that so much harder for you. I felt weak, and personally taken down when you removed me, so I lashed out - repeatedly. How could "Boxwood" treat *ME* like this? It took me time to understand that the issue was I had crossed a line, and then crossed it again, and again, and again when given a chance to redeem myself - this wasn't your fault, it was my immaturity. I may deny writing this to some people to maintain certain optics, but it is me.

To anyone who I've hurt, sorry.

Who cares what some normie thinks is too "cosplay?" If it looks good it looks good, and what are people gonna do? Laugh at you? For what having a fashion sence and knowing how to dress? At most people would just look at you and go "huh that guy kinda looks like a ninja" and just forget about it and go on with their day

On the other hand, autists who pay 2k for a fucking jacket need to stop.

>>
>>12711047
If you are just planning to do some light hiking, regular sneakers that fit well will do alright.
If the idea is to literally walk all day, you need comfortable shoes that have been worn for some time already, and the type depends on conditions.

Is it going to be cold and rainy? Better get some proper boots, otherwise your sneakers will just absorb water and a bunch of dirt will get in. Good boots will have higher ankle part to keep shit like rocks and sand getting in, and some sort of rubbery finish above the sole to keep moisture out. Gore-tex or similar membranes might be used, and they are pretty cool if you can afford the bill.
Is terrain soft or rocky? Paths with a lot of rocks will require a stiffer sole, which might be less comfortable, but will prevent your feet from bruising. They also often have hardened sole to help protect the toes from damage when accidentally hitting rocks and stuff.

Do not wear new shoes, or shoes that don't fit you perfectly on long hikes, you will get terrible blistering and bruises.
