I thrifted a decent camelhair overcoat this winter, but it's very long and too formal for my college campus. Can I have it tailored to topcoat length and furthermore, will it be expensive?

Depends what it looks like (if its got slits in the back/side), material, if it has a lining material, fabric thickness, if you end up chopping off the side pockets, etc.

In theory I guess it should work, but hard to tell without seeing the item. Its a pretty big job so might cost a bit.
