So I've been looking to upgrade my wardrobe a little, start splurging on some higher quality cuts/brands.
Don't have all that much in the way of experience, but I noticed that places are having a spring/summer sale.

Those are the only two I know. Any one have experience with these companies, I've heard that J crew fell off a while back, but never heard anything about Ted baker besides a co worker who swears by there fits.

Baker is like a British version of J Crew. Personally I find them both kind of boring in a modern-preppy kind of way, but the quality of their stuff is quite good, esp. For the price

I wouldn't buy anything from j.crew just yet. If you actually followed fashion/retail watever you would've read that the CEO just resigned. Main reason being for trying to come off as semi luxury so the prices may begin to plummet soon

The quality, fit and selection is much better than BR, and if you wait for sales the prices are similar. They also carry other high end brands on their website and in some stores, like Alden, Barbour, Norse Projects, Gitman Vintage, etc. You can occasionally catch this stuff on sale as well.

J Crew is a respected brand name and if girls or others see you wearing J Crew they know you know how to dress nice.
Old Navy, Banana Republic, Aeropostale , etc etc are highly stigmatized brands that have low status branding. People see someone wearing this brand and they think the person is low class or cheap.
