If you want recs, provide as many criteria as possible: including sex, price range, seasons/weather, occasions, other frags/notes/accords you like/dislike, special conditions i.e. can easily be found in mall department stores, other ephemera i.e. personal style/aura you want to project, etc...
>>
I like the freshness and citrus of CK One, it'll be good for summer. Though the artificial aspect to it is the only thing stopping me getting a bottle...
>>
>>12480797
Right now it smells like a toned down 212, with no violet

How is it?
>>
>>12480672

Wearing Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Nil - I smell like a fucking salad and I love it.
>>
Got the Dior Homme today love it but I want to try a spring/summer one. Should I try another one in the Dior Homme collection or Chanel?
>>
>>12481084
If you like smelling like a salad, try Irish Tweed :^)
>>
>>12481084
It's nice while the top notes last, I hate it once the vetiver takes over.
>>
>>12481098

Dior Homme Eau - still has the classic Dior Homme iris note but has added(not much, but there) citrus

If you want the iris note to be in the background with really bright citrus up front, try Dior Homme Sport 2012.
>>
>>12481228
Cheers senpai, I'll give em a try
>>
>>12481112
Love GIT, arguably one of the greatest masculine fragrances ever.

>>12481146
I don't really get vetiver on the dry-down, more so a bunch of florals.
>>
I visited the Scent Bar when I was in LA some time ago. They had so many different fragrances that I had never heard of, and so many of them were absolutely lovely. Can highly recommend it.
>>
Where is the safest place to buy fragrances? Is it normally in stores or from places like Amazon?
>>
>>12481262
FragranceNet and Notino are both great places to pick up fragrances on the cheap. There are also a couple of Facebook groups you can try out if you want to swap or buy.
>>
>>12481262
I can vouch for FragranceNet so far and decantshop for samples.

>in stores

Rip off.

Also, stay away from theperfumedcourt. They take forever just to ship. Even if you're in the mainland US.
>>
>>12481262
Amazon is loaded with fakes and dilutions.

Recently bought club de nuit intense men, since it's a creed aventus clone and I've heard so much about the hype.

Do you guys think it smells similar? Because I have never smelled Aventus before tbqh

Yes they have identical dry downs
>>
>>12481509
It's pretty similar but Aventus opens with a much smoother and pleasant fruity pineapple. The drydowns are very close though.

Really depends on your tastes, they're all pretty good. Definitely sample before you buy since done are off putting. Personally, I really enjoy The Cobra and The Canary and The Soft Lawn.
>>
>>12481606
How is it? I'm kinda intrigued by the cranberry note.
>>
>>12481618
Smells pretty nice, can't describe it though.
Intense and sweet I guess.

Currently switching between Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille (basic, I know, but it's a solid staple) and Penhaligon's Halfeti, which is beautiful.

I'm looking for a nice fresh fragrance to match the coming summer season, but also because me and my girlfriend are starting a collection, she currently wears Penhaligon's Equinox Bloom.

I splashed out and got the 250ml Tobacco Vanille, but I've found it smells different to the 100ml, has anyone else found this?
>>
>>12481634
some specificity would probably get you more helpful answers. are you looking for something citrusy, aquatic, fruity...? Any fresh scents you particularly liked in the past?

as for Tobacco Vanille, where did you get it? I'm fairly certain I'm sitting on a fake tuscan leather myself, so you might have had similarly bad luck. might just be batch inconsistencies, of course, but I haven't heard that a lot about tom ford
>>
>>12481634
What notes are looking for? An aquatic/ marine type or a citrusy woods type?

As for the TV, not sure. Maybe a reformulation?
>>
>>12481654
>>12481659

Oh sorry, I wasn't actually looking for recommendations, however I guess now that we're here something that's floral, not citrus as my gf finds them overwhelming (however if you have good citrus recommendations let me know as I may get them in the future).

As for the TV, I got it from the same place as I got the 100ml, which was House of Fraser (about 1-2 years apart though). It's likely a batch inconsistency like you suggested, however it is my first 250ml so maybe I'm not transferring it right?

How do you guys decant fragrances?

If that isn't the issue then I must say don't get the 250ml from HOF as it is disappointing in comparison to the 100ml.
>>
>>12481697
Have you tried Reflection Man by Amouage? Very floral and powdery.
>>
>>12481509
I have personally never tried it, but Creed is so overrated imo. Don't get the hype around Aventus or most Creed fragrances. IGT and Royal Oud are based, but the rest are just overhyped/price desu.
>>
>>12481730
I have! I actually had a 12 vial sample set of different Amouage fragrances, they were beautiful. There was a darker one that I loved, I think it had absinthe in it?
>>
>>12481736
Probably Memoir due to its wormwood note.

You could also try Amouage Bracken. It's kind of a twist on like a spiced fougere. Very green and earthy, a little woody, has a very nice lavender note, a little citrus at the top but it doesn't smell "citrusy" overall, it just adds a little freshness to the opening.

Amouage Jubilation if you like fruity-spicy-incense. Beautiful scent.

It's overrated and there are numerous clones that smell 90% the same that can be had for a fraction of the price. If you're gonna go Creed, at least get MI or Royal Water or one of their other actually great fragrances.
>>
Anyone here have Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme? How is the performance?
>>
>>12481262
I wouldn't trust Amazon, anon. I bought a Versace cologne there twice, and one Burberry cologne, and only the Burberry cologne was real.

Fragancenet and Notino are legit though I would be way of fragrancenet seeing how they sometimes get bad reviews. I would trust Notino in your shoes.
>>
>>12481795
It was Memoir, thanks for reminding me. Brackets wasn't in the samples I received, but it sounds nice.

I forgot about Jubilation, it wasn't in my samples but I really wanted to try it, doesn't it have blackberry in it?
>>
>>12482290
Jubilation has everything in it.
>>
>>12482105
I bizzarely couldn't find any of these in my hometown, guess I'll get some online. Do you reuse them or is it best to chuck them afterwards and use fresh ones?

I got a decanting set with an atomizer I purchased online from The Essential Atomizer Company, it's shit, do not purchase from them.

My atomizer also broke and leaked, and all the black started to peel away from the glass. Super pissed off.

>>12482110

>>
>>12482295

>>
>>12482297
I keep one in the medicine cabinet leaning next to the splash bottle of Egoiste to feed the atomizer I use to spray it, but keeping track of multiple pipettes to bottles is a bigger pain in the ass than the guilt I'd feel for using most one time then recycling. Besides, they're 5¢ apiece.

Yeah you're right. I had high expectations for when my CDNI bottle arrived. But when I smelled it, I didn't get the hype either. My parents liked the scent, they gave it 8/10. But one of my female friends gave it (only) 7/10.
Really overhyped indeed.
>>
>>12482206
I have a 1ml sample and the performance is great, unfortunately for me it's just a bit to heavy. Would anyone know what is the main note in this frag? If this helps I think it's the same as 212 drydown and that's what I'm looking for but in slightly lighter version for spring/summer.
>>
>>12482206
Performs amazing, so don't overspray. It doesn't last long though (3 hours). Did one spray on the back of my neck once, and someone could smell it from 5 meters away.

>>12482886
Tonka bean and mint
>>
>>12482290
It does have blackberry. It's not massively prevalent, but it's there. As the other guy said, Jubilation has a ton of notes. It basically smells rich. It smells like if you went to a Sultan's palace, that's what his throne room would smell like. Probably my favorite Amouage fragrance.
>>

>>

serious question /fa/ - regardless of your personal preferences, price, climate and weather, what is the most luxurious fragrance, scent or even single note you've felt in your life, not necessary on yourself, perhaps in your company or surrounding someone, something smelled like a brick of gold?

looking for some inspo - personally can't place anything that stood out looking back - wealthy people i've been around either didn't smell at all or it was really overpowering rather classical french fragrance worn by some aspiring sad people but nothing that would make me wanna smell like them.
>>
>>12483315
Looking at that pic, gold is not the first odor that comes to mind.
>>
>>12483315
Amouage Jubilation.

Roja Enigma smells quite rich as well (as well it should at Roja prices), but it's less ostentatious. Jubilation smells like a man in golden clothes standing in a golden room in his golden palace.
>>
>>12482206
Performance is average. I wouldn't use it for summer though, it's too thick. Seems more like a fall/winter fragrance.

>>12482886

Any recommendations for a warm weather frag? I'll be working in a hot, stuffy laboratory in a hot part of southern California this summer and I need something that can keep up with my sweat but still smell pleasant. No note preference at all.

>>
>>12483885
Parfum is good but not too wearable casually. It's gotta be pretty cold for it to come off well.

Intense I think has a bit more versatility. I wear it to work and out at the pub with a nice shirt and boots. It's a line that's a bit more formal than most, in my opinion, so dress it up and you'll get compliments left right and centre if that's your thing.

opinions on fragrantica vs basenotes? it seems like fragrantica is more up to date, alive, useful... but seems to be out of favor here. basenotes seems to have a more tight knit community and a better system for organizing/rating your fragrances, but the place just feels kinda dead to me.

Are there any reliable decanters on ebay or should I just avoid getting samples there altogether? It's for fairly cheap fragrances, if that makes a difference in how likely they are to fake it.
>>

Avoid ebay for decants mostly, if you have Facobook there are a couple of groups that have members who sell decants on the cheap. Fragrance Guru Nation and Fragrance Swap.

Which one would you choose between Dior Homme Sport, Dior Homme Cologne and Allure Homme Sport?
>>
Where do you buy cologne online? Is amazon a bad choice?
>>
>>12487508
Yes, don't know where you live but I would go for trusted local stores that sell online.
>>
>>12487508
Depends where you live. If you're in Canada or the U.S., fragrancebuy.ca is super cheap, reliable, and has great service. Used them tons of times, never had a problem with fakes.

Amazon is not so good because of the prevalence of counterfeit goods. With fragrances in particular, fakes can get pretty elaborate, it can be hard to tell the difference (aside from the actual scent and performance, of course). I wouldn't recommend Amazon overall for fragrances, you never know what you're getting.
>>
>>12487508
fragrancenet/notino are the best places to go most of the time. Also facebook groups/basenotes/fragrantica threads

Thinking about buying a decant of Erolfa to try out since the notes look promising, I've also heard this smells very dated - anyone care to share what they think?
>>
>>12488156
I just got a 3ml sample a while back to try. My experience was that it smells about 80% similar to MI, only a little bit less sweetness and the drydown is a little more green and less salty.

Honestly, MI sort of makes it obsolete. It's a more sophisticated scent overall, and they smell similar enough that it's really not worth having both.

Also, Lara is best grill.
>>
>>12488571
This is horrible advice. Just because this guy got lucky doesn't mean amazon is safe, even if it is sold by Amazon. Many items that are sold/fulfilled by Amazon aren't actually theirs, they're just shipped by them. It's still no guarantee at all that you're getting an authentic product.

It's safer than buying from a random seller on Amazon, yes, but still far from foolproof.

OR Amazon is notorious for counterfeit goods in general, as is evidenced by the numerous articles that can be found by simply googling "Amazon counterfeit", and thus, for a product that is counterfeited as often as fragrances, it's probably not a good source.

There is something that bothers me, not specifically about his channel, but in general in most videos where there are at least 2 people giving opinions.

Strong is supposedly a Sauvage knockoff. So far it just smells kinda soapy. Then again, I haven't actually smelled Sauvage, so for all I know, that's what it smells like. Only cost me 15 maplebux, though, so if I wind up hating it, meh.

The Zebra stuff is an Arabic Aventus-like. Actually pretty nice. Smells like a sweeter, fruitier Aventus. The Oakmoss note does smell pretty artificial on the drydown, but I still like it. Also only 40 maplebux.

Is this house some meme designed to trick poorfargs? I bought samples of their most hiped offerings and I feel like I got dupped considering how much these fucking samples costed.

Ivory Route - some average spice and incense
More Than Words - Way too sweet for me and there are better rose fragrances
Lira - Smells like vanile cookies but again, too sweet, and not interesting enough
Nio- This when I tough I was literally scammed, it's just a nice soapy citrus scent, barely better than mugler cologne
Naxos- it's good but smells too much like pure havane and doesn't warrant the absurd price
Renaissance- average mint smell

I haven't smelled richwood, but fck me that thing costs over 500 euros. I'm dropping the entire house
>>
Man, I really like Boss Bottled, but the sillage and longevity just isn't there. For a model that should know legal shit, he didn't really disclose his notino sponsorships very well. From the ones I saw, you literally had to click read more in the description, and the only disclosure was right at the bottom of it. Is he good for people that just want compliments? Sure. But I don't buy his BS when he broke out the sniffing kit for essential oils honestly. I think he made up his "love of fragrance". Sure on the surface he seems genuine, and his videos are done somewhat professionally, especially compared to quite a few reviewers. But when you take into account his pure neglect in mentioning sponsorships it speaks volumes, maybe he doesn't trust his audience to make their own decisions even if they knew he was kinda shilling, but the fact that a man that clearly has the money or influence to get free bottles from companies either has no idea on the community guidelines of disclosure or blatantly ignores them, is very damaging to what he truly thinks of his viewers.

In terms of disclosure, redolessence isn't particularly good either, I saw a couple videos where overlay text showed up for a quick second while he had a fragrantica website scroll in the background. Overall I honestly think most of the reviewers don't obsess over fragrances like most of the "community" but just want to make some money on it. They probably saw the most successful guy in that area at the time and thought they would get that way with the same setup.

Now is it wrong what they are doing? Not particularly. But it just sickens me when they try to bullshit about how "fragrance plays a central emotional role in their lives" and don't bother to mention their sponsorships a lot of the time. If anything it just insults the viewers, saying they can't make their own decisions when they have all the factors and biases of the review there for them.

On a side note, the *other* Jeremy "fragrance reviewer" The Scentrepreneur (lol so funny). What is his deal?
>>
>>12490243
* He does this weird smile quite a lot in his videos. I have no idea if its anxiety, but it just comes off as a bit narcissistic. It's like a weird bunny teeth kinda smile. It just seems really strange. Thoughts?
>>
On the Jeremy discussion personally my only problem with him is I dont think.. I learn anything new when I watch his videos. I think people forget and what ive talked about in a lot of my fragrance videos(dunno if anyone hear watch's them but..)almost everything can get compliments. So although its kinda nice seeing what is someones favorite thing, when thats like... 100% of the what they are talking about all the time it gets a little... boring to say maybe? And I dont feel like I learn anything about any fragrances when i watch his videos becuase he never describes how they smell. So it gets a little boring when its always the same kinda thing.. it would be more interesting if he used how popular his channel is to ask girls about some sorta slightly more out there fragrances, or specific ones vs specific ones that have the same vibe if that makes sense.

As for the other Jeremy dunno but i do know ive seen him posting a new video everyday for a couple month it seems now. Strike while the iron is hot I guess...

As for reviewers being disingenuous well theres no doubt in my mind that its possible many are quite sponsored to certain degrees. Even as small as my channel I have actually had companies/or the perfumer themselves contact me when I did not give as good as review they wanted so.....
>>

Personally, first thing I'd recommend is going to a department store or a Sephora or whatever and sampling some fragrances. Ask the person there for help. Get an idea of what sorts of scents you like. Maybe specific notes you enjoy.

Once you have an idea of what sort of scents you like, you can order some samples and find some some fragrances you want to buy a full bottle of.

You need to decide which kinds of scents you prefer and your price range.

I don't care much for citrus. They smell great, but even the expensive ones perform like absolute shit and they're not worth the money.

Not gonna spend cash on a frag I like either unless I can get at least 12 hours of longevity.

Don't give a fuck about sillage as long as I can smell it.

What are some long lasting fresh/citrus scents under £50?
>>
>>12491597
Citrus scents, by their nature, tend not to last long. The molecules in citrus notes aren't very stable so they tend to break down quickly. That's why citrus notes are always top notes in fragrances.

There are, of course, fragrances with citrus in them that last a long time, but you don't tend to smell much of the citrus after an hour or so.

Some anon was complaining about shipping time. I live across the country from TPC, have ordered from them four times, and don't have any complaints.

Of course I mostly use luckyscent because I live so close—my orders generally arrive in 2 days.
>>
>>12492604
Well, it's normal for a decant service to take at least three business days to process an order.

But they don't give you any other option for shipping than default first class.

Their normal process for upgrading the shipping involved filing some support ticket. But the system they used for that is down.

What is a good fragrance for cars/rooms??

Bonus points if somebody can name one that smells like a warm cafe

Go to Yankee Candle, choose from any number of air fresheners or sprays or candles. Christmas Cookie is a great home scent in the fall and winter, an olfactory soundtrack to play as you put on 20 pounds.

I can see you own Burberry Britt Rhythm. What are your thoughts on that one? Also have you received any feedback?

I own it as well but never wear it...

Since La Nuit's longevity is so poor now, would it be a better investment in buying some La Nuit shower gel?

>TFW fragrance is a lonely hobby

Sure, there are compliments or whatever, but I can't really talk to anyone about this, you know? Everyone I try to thinks I sound snotty/doesn't care.

I give my friends fragrance recommendations if they're looking for something, or I'll go with my female friends and get their opinions on some stuff if I get the chance

But I'm sure they'll be happy. In any case, yes, I think I'll try getting back in touch with some of my old female friends. Finally, I'll be as happy to go to the mall as they are, it's an odd feeling

I really don't know anymore. My bottle I believe is late 2015 batch and sometimes it lasts a long time, sometimes it's gone within an hour. I just keep a atomiser with me and spray every couple of hours whenever I go to the bathroom, no biggie. Nobody will even notice unless you drench yourself or change scents.

that being said, I was out for lunch with one of my lady friends and she said she always liked "this one", meaning La Nuit and we were outside and she was a table away. By then I would have thought it to be a skin scent. I like to think it actually has great longevity but nose fatigue is high. We laugh to keep from crying.

>"let me smell that again" - first grill

Have you ever attempted to mix fragrances? Post horror stories.

I might be about to, I got a ton of mediocre-to-bad samples that I'm gonna mix the instant I find a cheap atomizer

I think it's a really nice aromatic/leather. There's a certain sweetness from the tonka and after that, it dries down to mostly leather, wood and a touch of incense. Good shit for winter

Don't know why but if I'm indoors the moment I step outside or even just open the door I get an instant whiff of the frag I'm wearing regardless of the olfactory fatigue so that's what I'm using to check if it's just fatigue or it really wore off.

What are some of your most complimented fragrances?

I just got my sample set. I have to say i really like this company. I forgot to include which ones i want, but they just added 2 more samples for free so i got all of them. Also they managed to get them through customs without me paying any import taxes.
Only tried "A city on fire" so far. and its really interesting a bit like bacon and the burned match note realy comes through. dont know how people would react to someone wearing it. but i cant stop smelling it.

Can you guys please rec some scents similar to Green Irish Tweed (i.e. light, simple, elegant, mature, masculine, versatile, etc.)? Bonus points for florals, any price range welcome

and just to help give a further impression of what I'm after, one other scent imo in that same sort of class as GIT, though maybe not spring/summer appropriate and maybe not quite as useable in most situations, is Amouage Memoir Man

Thanks in advance.

It smells amazing if you're into the apple+vanilla+sandalwood combination.

Don't spend more than $20 or $30 for 100ml (3.3oz) of the original due to what >>12494316
said.

The only decent performance there is to be had with this particular scent is with the Intense. The EdP, that is.

At this point, the original is just a big, overpriced sample of the Intense EdP.

Should I go for Polo blue or Joop Jump for a fresh summer work scent? My price range is around £35 max since I need to save money.

most complimented for me this year so far are, grand soir, CK reveal, The one, SMW, CH men.

But ultimately I think almost anything gets compliments, i think its more interesting what fragrances dont get regular compliments. Im sure if i had worn something like aventus more often, la nuit, etc id be getting lots of compliments on those too, along with others, but I just havnt felt like wearing them.

I say it a lot but I really really recommend people if they want a cheap compliment getting fragrance try CK reveal it gets me a butt load of compliments, its not snuggly or sexy, but in terms of walking past someone and them stopping you its super good I find.

A. he's probably given a lot of free bottles, I know when he reviewed Roja Enigma, he mentioned someone sending him a bottle. B. most of the shit he reviews is designer stuff that's not terribly expensive. He's probably not spending much at all on fragrances.

Thoughts on Mad et Len? I can't seem to find any stores that carry them.

I'm a 21 year old med student in the UK. Currently occasionally wear Issey pour homme sport, which is quite nice in the spring/summer, and isn't too overwhelming (sometimes get very close to patients in the hospital doing procedures etc , don't want to drown them in it).

I quite like the scent, but am looking for something perhaps a bit more masculine, evening/winter orientated, maybe for dates with the gf and things like that? Perhaps ok for working in hospitals during winter as well? Budget - not too expensive, as I'm quite a poorfag but may be able to get it as a present, say up to £75?
Must be available to get in the UK
Nothing to 'out there'- relatively safe and not offensive (again, don't want patients complaining or shit)

As you can tell I don't really know much about this and have just given lots of random info
>>
>>12495645
I'm finding it hard to think of a fragrance that would work well for both dates and work in a hospital. Those seem like polar opposite scenarios to me. Maybe La Nuit or BdC EdP because they are so soft, but be warned the performance is not great on either.

It would be better if you got one for dates and one for winter work.
>>
>>12495674

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking - I'd much rather spend more and get two separate ones than one that does a mediocre/poor job at both.

I'll just continue lurking threads and see what people recommend and get some samples, Dior Homme seems quite nice but people say it's somewhat feminine which isn't perfect really
>>
mmmmm

dior homme intense

Very sweet, rich, moist cigar tobacco. I, too, prefer PM, but wear neither very much any more. A perfect example of something that I loved at first, but grew bored/tired of after a while.
>>
>>12495645
Surprised your hospital doesn't have a fragrance policy. In addition to the gym and an airplane, I'd include a hospital as one of the few places zero fragrance should be worn.
