Next month I'm planning on blind buying Allure Homme Eau Extreme and Valentino Uomo Intense

They seem pretty safe and things I would like based on my taste, can't find samples of them anywhere locally or online

Anyone who have them want to tell me their experience?
>>
>>12438898
>>12438901

tested it twice

I had trouble smelling it off my skin after like 1 hour.

Might be good ole' olfactory fatigue, didnt get anyone else's nose on it so i couldnt tell. However it was a skin scent on me for like 10 hours
>>
>>12439766
Eau extreme, everyone i let smell it / smelled it love the hell out of it. I like it myself as well, haven't picked up a bottle yet though.

Valentino Uomo: Heavy iris. DHI minus the chocolate notes. I'm not that into iris, but if it floats your boat then perfect purchase for you.

My ex loved CH men. Doesnt last that long but people over exaggerate how bad the performance is. its similar to La nuit. As the sillage starts to become closer to your body, your girl will be drawn in more to try and smell

To me, I just love the drydown because it's a tobacco frag with a lot of classic tobacco notes that manages to smell nothing like a tobacco frag. On me, I get rich, creamy vanilla, cognac, jasmine, and a bit of spiciness from the ginger, pepper, and patchouli.

We'll, I love a lot of different frags. I love a nice fougere, I love a good aquatic, I certainly don't wear only orientals, I'm simply able to appreciate very good ones.

Some of my other favorite frags are Creed MI, Amouage Bracken, Acquai di Parma Essenza, Amouage Jubilation XXV. I wear a pretty good mix of genres.

Has anyone done the Atelier discovery pack? Seems like really good value and I'm kinda tempted as summer approaches.
>>
>>12440467
Well, that's not exactly what he said. What he said was that in his experience, people who tend to favor oriental fragrances may be insecure. They dress loudly and wear very bold fragrances in order to mask insecurity. He never said anything specifically about vanilla, except perhaps as an example of a note often found in oriental fragrances.
>>
>>12440582
http://www.gq.com/story/roja-dove-custom-perfume

"Take this gentleman," he said, discreetly motioning to a man across the room. "Dressed in a showy way, a little loud, confident—I’m going to guess he’s wearing an oriental fragrance. People who like these types of perfumes tend to be a bit larger-than-life." And why was this? he asked, stabbing the asparagus on his plate. "Because usually underneath they’re a little insecure. When you come across vanillic scents, whether the association is with ice cream, cake, or biscuit, the vanilla subconsciously makes somebody feel very secure. We learn that security is a kiss and a treat. So the big character, who inside is vulnerable, loves these very large perfumes, because inside it feels like a safety thing."
>>

jeremy is a moron who admitted he pretty much only wears fragrances to attract people

>>12441091
when i started getting into fragrances i posted pictures and asked this general what they could smell like, I got a couple fragrance recommendations that way and bought samples, that's about the best initiation someone can get along with going to a fragrance store and smelling around
you're doing that guy a disservice if you tell him jeremy is good at all
jeremy has his own philosophy about fragrances and you should listen to his advices only if you have the same fragrance philosophy as him, otherwise you're shooting yourself in the foot
>>
>>12441099
Is good advice

>>12441071
Seems too niche-oriented for beginners. It seems like a good way to blow a bunch of money on a polarizing Art fragrance that you end up not wearing.

you dont grow a taste for niche with years of experience, you either like niche stuff or you dont

most of the beauty of the fragrance world comes from the niche realm

I'm new to all this and trying to pick something.
I used to wear David Beckham Essence in college, and actually liked it despite it being cheap af.

I got three samples I've been wearing this week:
Dolce light blue for men
Chanel Allure homme sport
Acqua di gio

Any opinions? I'm leaning towards chanel or gio but I know that gio is pretty popular/common so I don't exactly know if I want to smell like every guy in a polo shirt
>>
>>12441150
Of course taste is something that you develop. Just like art, music or food, you pick up a sense of what's good and by consuming a lot of different stuff, paying attention, and discussing with other interested people.

Just like a 500€ bottle of wine would be 470€ wasted on me, I think it's better to start with some 'safer', more versatile, and cheaper scents that you can actually wear in everyday situations. If you wear something a lot, you'll start to pick up on how it progresses from top to base, and maybe pick up the ability to identify individual notes.

Then, once you have a nose that can pick up on all the subtlety, you'll be able to tell which niche fragrances are actually worth the price, and which are just marketing bullshit (and there's more than plenty of that in perfumes).
>>
>>12441218
it either speaks to you or it doesnt, how hard to understand is that

the only thing that you "develop" is the ability to find what you like better
>>
>>12441203
>When you come across vanillic scents
>vanillic scents
>He never said anything specifically about vanilla
>>
>>12441216
I don't know if any of those will really set you apart, but if it's between that and Chanel, get the Chanel. It's more balanced and well-rounded. AdG is so distinctive to me it pretty much screams "hey everyone I'm wearing Armani Acqua di Gio!"

(and maybe "hey everyone, it's 2003" depending on where you're located)
>>
>>12441246
That's a good point. I'm wearing the Chanel today and it's growing on me. I may just go for it. Thanks
>>
>>12441236
> it either speaks to you or it doesnt, how hard to understand is that
Read the reviews on basenotes or fragrantica, especially for an 'advanced' scent like Kouros, Antaeus, or Yatagan. How many are there saying, "I thought this was awful at first, but then I came back to it a few months later and tried it again and like, wow, this is amazing!"

> the only thing that you "develop" is the ability to find what you like better
Exactly, and you might find what you like in something even when you thought it wasn't there before. And that takes a bit of time and effort.
>>
>>12441238
Yes, in the context of oriental fragrances, which is what I said.
>>
>>12441238
Dude who bought the Roja here. I see what he's trying to say. The implication isn't necessarily that all people who like vanilla are insecure, simply that vanilla is comforting and makes people feel secure. If anything, the implication is that everyone likes vanilla to some extent for that reason. I feel like Roja's saying that people who feel insecure often flavor vanilla fragrances because of the comfort vanilla provides.

For the record, I am definitely not what people would consider "larger than life". Usually just wear pretty simple jeans and a neutral colored button down shirt. Nothing loud. And like I said, I like many different types of frags.

Both of these statements are silly. "Niche" is a term describing the house selling the frag. It's like "indie" in music. The term is meaningless in actually describing anything about the product. There are good and bad frags from every house and price level.

>>12441600
Sorry to hijack your question but i have to ask - I never really considered using something like a designer shower gel - apart from the smell do they actually offer anything better than the rest?

The good thing about shower gel is if you buy one you don't really like, it's never so bad it's unusable, and it washes off. Pick the one that would look the best in your shower see how it works out.

UNREFINED LUXURY. that's the word for it. they smell like most of their garbage mainstream products. shiny and ugly.
>>
>>12442828
Guerlain doesn't make any other products. Btw which guerlain did you get?

London, egoïste and ysl l'homme, yeah I can understand that reaction, especially if you smell them basically all at the same time, and apparently not looking for a mainstream spicy oriental.
>>
>>12442865
Guerlain also makes makeup and skincare you dolt/

No you fucking retard I was really not expecting any of them to smell the way they did which is why I bought them to begin with, I had especially high expectations for Egoiste, but they all smelled like trash

>>12442969
You know perfumers who create designer fragrances also create niche fragrances right? The brand is just that, a name to put behind a product.
>>
>>12442984
...so?
>>
>>12443010
Oh so you're a troll
>>
>>12443014
Yeah, that became obvious to me a little bit ago too.
>>
>>12443014
Who cares about the fact that perfumers can also make good fragrances. I'm talking about those designer houses here. If a good 3D artists contributed to the making of Call of Duty : Space Dubstep Warfare 4, does that make the game any better? No, but the 3D artist got some good money nonetheless.
>>
I bought some sample vials, how do I go about using them? Do I empty out an atomiser and fill it up, or just dab on my finger and apply that way?
>>
>>12443302
With your finger or the cap. I generally use the cap, or I contort and flip my arm with the vial pressed against it to apply a bit. But I'm typing that I just realized how retarded I look, so I'm going to phase that maneuver out of my repertoire and stick with the dab.
>>
>>12443449
Nah, I do the vial thing too. Never seem to get enough for a good wear from dabbing.
>>
>>12443302
If you have more than the 0.7ml tubes from Lucky Scent, it's worth it to me to transfer to an atomizer. Otherwise, I just stick the open end against my forearm, invert and rub, kind of like a poor man's roll on.
>>
>>12443529
tfw just found out my 5mL samples of Oud Wood, Tuscan Leather, and Tobacco Vanille slowly but completely leaked out of the travel atomizers I transferred them to.
>>
The eternal question: buy a small bottle of something I love, or spend that money on 25 samples in hopes of finding more things I'll love. Trying to be responsible and stick to a budget is no fun.

Whats a good all rounder scent for being indoors?
I'm 20 and spend most of my days in an air condiitoned computer lab, so I don't want to stink everyone out.
I really like woody, spicy frags but I feel like Spicebomb would be too much for indoors and not an everyday, from the samples I've tried my favourites are John Varvatos John Varvatos, Spicebomb and The One, is The One a safe bet that I can rely on smelling good and having solid projection as it starts to get colder in Australia?
Looking for cheaper than $100

What are you looking for in a fragrance? You can't just give a list of frags without saying what you want
Or are you just going to order these samples? Still you should tell us what you're looking for so we can recommend some samples
>>
>>12444323
What would ordering certain scents have to do with picking a good fragrance? I already know that I like warm spicy and woody accords, with notes like leather, cinnamon, tobacco, vanilla etc.
Understanding what scents I like better won't stop me from stinking out a comp lab just because I like Spicebomb.
>>
>>12444338
Sorry, what I mean to ask is whether there are any duds in particular in the list, or whether there are similar fragrances that people with more experience than me know, that would be better to sample.
My tastes are similar to >>12444339 but I'm trying to find a summer scent for the heat that won't be overpowering in the office as well as the spicy winter scent.
>>
>>12444341
>summer scent for heat that wont be overpowering in office
From your list the ones that fit this bill (that i know of) are:
(Acqua di gio does but its super overplayed, you can try the new profumo version but i think thats better for night time)
Versace dylan blue
Nautica voyage
Ed hardy love and luck
Lucky you
You can also try
Versave pour homme
Moschino uomo
Creed millesime imperial (similar to love and luck)
There are tons more those are just my limited thoughts/suggestions
>>
>>12444336

That's what I'm worried about, help me senpai

Also this list was from FragranceNet because of their coupon deal, but is there another site that's better for Australians? theperfumedcourt and luckyscent are charged in us dollars and carry different scents to my list.
>>
>>12444291
Could go with Spicebomb Eau Fraiche. It's got a similar scent to Spicebomb, but cleaner and more fresh, and doesn't have that monster projection.
>>
>>12444374
Most of the stuff on your list, you could just find at a department store. Could just go there and test a few, really no need to order online.
>>
>>12444336
Want to narrow it down? Pick 10 bottles you think would look nicest in your bathroom or best reflect who you want to be. Also pick the 10 names that you think sound best or evoke some emotion or inspiration. Sample whatever made it on both lists, and you'll find something to love.

>>
>>12441473
I'm pretty partial to a good citrus offering, especially in summer where it gets to well over 40°C. I found that Atelier's citruses had something a lot of other's lacked - real zest. Most designer citruses hide their citrus zest behind copious amounts of ambroxin, sandalwood or sweetness, but Atelier revels in the really zesty almost bitter blasts of citrus common when peeling of cutting a lemon or orange for example. I found that they mimic real citrus fruits incredibly well and always leave you feeling refreshed and energised.

Other than their citrus range, I enjoyed: philtre ceylon, tobacco nuit, poivre electrique, and a few others I cant remember the name to

Wondering if anyone can recommend a rose fragrance for spring/summer.
I love the woodiness/spiciness of Rose 31 but the rose is a little more muted than I'd like. I also have Calligraphy Rose which is lovely but the smokey incense makes it more suited to cold weather.
Portrait of a Lady is divine but a bit too opulent and heavy for day-to-day, same with Misia.
I think I'm more into the rich, lush type of rose, maybe even jammy.

Please Axe Bergamot I want you back.

I like to go to cheap stores to buy bottles just to add to my collection. If you go to Dollar Tree, they have bottles of fragrances for a dollar. They are absolute trash except when being used as like room sprays.

If you go to Big Lots however, they have the Preferred Fragrances brand of knockoffs for $3.50. A bunch of their stuff is really good, except it just lasts really short. Their knockoff Invictus spells pretty similar as does their Aqua di Gio (called Aqua H20) and their knockoff 212 Club is really nice.

The thing is, half the bottles I get leak and I have to throw them out, so I think I'm going to have to stop. I need a list of like the top super cheap fragrances under $15 and Ill just buy those.

I have 20-25 bottles of $60+ colognes, but my favorite is my cheapass bottle of Tabac and my cheap bottle of Eau de Grey Flannel.

I am still on the hunt for the illusive bottle of something that smells exactly like original Speed Stick. Eau de Grey Flannel is close, but not spicy enough.
>>
>>12447821
It's this, basically. Invictus has that douchebag clubbing association. Eros is a bit more mature and sophisticated (though it still works as a clubbing scent, should you be so inclined).

That said, wear whatever you like. Don't be concerned with what people you'll never meet on a Bhutanese straw weaving board think.

Yes. Lighter scent molecules (topnotes) evaporate soonest: fresher ones like citrus, etc. And the heaviest ones go last: the basenotes, i.e. musks, woods, etc. But also, the more times you wear a scent, the more notes you'll notice, i.e. the more you'll "get" a scent.

The opening of Bleu de Chanel EDT is a very harsh grapefruit but in EDP it was chnaged to a very sweet/fresh note that for me evokes an image of a juicy tangerine that lingers for just a couple of minutes even though I think that's not actually a tangerine, anyway that's the most pleasant and comforting note i've ever smelled in any parfume. Would relly appreciate if some could tell me what note it is.

this desu, i wish it lasted longer

yeah, the performance is an issue but it's a night scent so if I go out after 8pm I only need it to last about 4-5 hours so it's not a problem for me.

im always surprised to hear that people have such tough times with the performance on the EdP, I get a solid 7-8 hours out of it with about 3-4 in arms length projection.

mature, classy and timeless
i wouldn't recommend that as a playful or alluring scent, but it is very nice in any setting that's higher than casual.

Curve Deluxe
I am actually a fan of Platinum Egoiste and own a 100ml bottle. But it does smell like Curve.
Warm, sweet, mossy, 90's lavender.

It;s probably just hard to measure objectively how much it keeps projecting with your nose quickly gettin used to a scent. For example I recently bought a lot of samples and hated most of them but could smell them on my skin even the next day while it seems the the few that I really liked evaporated after just a couple of hours.

i'm not sure if you're referring to me being unable to tell it lasts that long or you unable to get performance out of it, but i usually moisturize before i apply fragrance so i usually get a little bit more out of my scents.
as to the olfactory fatigue aspect though, i usually put my nose inside of my shirt and inhale or smell a part of my skin that doesn't have fragrance, that seems to reset my nose from smelling something neutral so try that out if you think you might be experiencing it

Is notino legit? They're offering some fragrances like Aventus and Reflection Man at a huge discount from retail price.

I only meant that all the comments about The One EDP poor performance (which I would say is average) probably come not from performance itself but rather things like the longetivity not being on par with scent itself so it;s being exagerrated as poor, repeating what other peaople say and just prejudice based on EDT which really was bad in that regard.

Yeah it's legit dude

Shop around before buying anything though. Sometimes their list price is ridiculously high to inflate the appearance of an astronomical discount.
