Look into Ivy brands. Ivy is essentially the Japanese version of Ivy league prep that evolved within japan based on their limited knowledge of what americans actually wore during the 1940s. It has a more modern edge to it. Look into Beams+ for example. You can buy their clothes from Union Made and Mr Porter in the US.

Most of the prep where I live consists of flat front chinos, nice driver shoes, a leather belt to match the shoes, a Vineyard Vines Oxford (or something in a similar price range), three button Navy blazer, and a nice pair of sun glasses. All of this should be taken to a tailor and custom fitted. You should combine these with a nice watch, like a Rolex date-just, a leather wallet, and an optional money clip for your poker/horse racing days. If the occasion doesn't call for a blazer, then just wear the Oxford or a well fitted polo. If it's cold, then you can wear something like a sweater vest or a nice jacket. Always shop for seersucker over linen whenever shopping for spring and summer styles. Seersucker pants and shirts look good for casual preppy occasions. Skip the short sleeve button downs and do not wear undershirts. For shorts, wear something that isn't pleated, shows off some thigh, and looks good with the fit.

For some casual every day wear, a nice pocket-t, some new balances, and some Patagonia shorts will do.

It all depends on the area you live in, but most of the time, the guys who dress like above, and aren't wearing too flamboyant of colors, look much better dressed than the Ivy League dressed cucks presented in this thread.

Ok, I'll try to break it down the essentials. Good brands are: Brooks Brothers, J press, J crew, Orvis, LL Bean, Polo Ralph Lauren, Barbour. I believe you should also take a look at Patagonia. Oh I nearly forgot, kamakura shirts in new York have good shirts and ties. There are plenty of English brands as well but I can't recall the names. There is one where I get my suits from when I'm in London. I think it was B something.

Buy Oxford shirts, essential colours are white and blue. Buy flannels from LL Bean.
Get some nice sweaters in many colours. Cable knit sweaters are also important. Maybe even get sweater vests for wearing under blazers. Cricket/tennis sweaters are also nice.

Pants are good to have in many colours but the most basic and essential is to have khaki coloured chinos. Get a pair of nantucket reds.Corduroy pants are good too. For summer and spring you should get a pair of madras pants and shorts. In a category of their own are go to hell pants. They can be fun, look them up.

Spring is here and summer is approaching. Buy polo shirts in as many colours as you can. Seersucker is a good material for warm weather, so get a pair of seersucker shorts.

For spring you should probably get a Harrington jacket. Barbour wax jackets are also good. Personally I don't like vests but I suppose if you want to you could get vests.

It is important to own a nice pair of loafers, perhaps bass weejuns, they are not expensive. Also buy a pair of boat shoes. For rainy weather and such you should have a pair of LL bean boots.

Get a navy blazer from Brooks Brothers, a grey tweed blazer, and for fun get a seersucker blazer as well.

As for ties, many different ties work. The repp tie is essential though. Knit ties are cool too. If possible get a tie with your university's colours or emblem.

I don't recommend to buy everything at once, find what fits you the best.

Need some advice.
Going to a physics conference for work, and not sure if it's a faux pas to have two bags of different color leathers.
I have a brown water buffalo leather briefcase, and I have a black water buffalo leather weekender/small duffel bag.
Is it frowned upon/will I look silly with two blatantly different leather bags?
I have brown loafers, and a pair of brown shoes, that match my briefcase, so I'm worried the black bag will stand out like a sore thumb. I'll only be carrying the black bag at the airport, so I'm hoping it won't be a big deal.
