Dumb question.
When I try to tie my hair back into a ponytail there are 2 problems
1) The hair on the side of my head is really difficult to keep tied, and keeps coming loose within minutes of tying it
2) In general, my hair escapes the knot after a couple of hours of wear
How can I fix this? Is there some kind of haircut I can get that is ideally suited to making ponytails?

If your hair is slippery you may want to apply some fiber. Also, you may just be bad at it if you're just learning.
