Sometimes wearing skirts made of "toothier" materials like cotton is difficult when wearing tights because they can cause friction and either get caught between one's legs or start riding up when walking and it looks really unsightly with fabric bunching up/trying to pull out the fabric from between your legs, so I usually prefer to wear those skirts without tights or with crew socks instead

Also in the summer it gets icky when outside in 30° weather so having a breeze down there is nice

I wear tights or knees highs every single day but I feel like I'm going through as much money as a smoker as I rip my tights so often & need to replace them. Maybe I'm buying cheap tights but I also walk a shit ton & they usually seem to usually rip if I pull them too hard when putting them on?

The only kind that don't rip on me are winter tights, but it's getting warmer in LA & I wear tights similar to OP pic.

There are a few aspects. More women wear pants in the workplace. Skirt suits can have a kind of diminutive vibe to them. It's more acceptable to dress casually in the workplace today than over the last 50 years. Very few fields would require that women even wear pantyhose if they wore skirts or dresses. Women used to wear them to go out in the winter, but I think thicker tights are generally more practical since they're warmer and more durable. Some girls wear hose to hide their pale legs in the winter, but nowadays some just use self tanner.

Also they don't look good with open-toe shoes, they're generally too fragile to bother with and they're not super-comfortable. Lots of women used to wear them for the control-top aspect, but the advent of Spanx/other shapewear means that you can have bare legs and a "smooth" appearance.

I've owned tights and hose from both Wolford and Falke. The tights last but their hose (10-15 den) rip just as easily as lower quality brands, though they tend to ladder less. Sheers from AA were around half the price stateside and the same quality. If I lived in Europe, Falke is good brand for the price.

I have no clue, anon. I know that I used to buy mine too big, and buying smaller ones helped- so did filing my toenails after cutting to reduce snags. My biggest dumb problem is ripping nylons when I snag my shoes on them or something, but I'm not a graceful, fashionable swan. Lucky I'm into grunge styles and stuff- I wear my tights with rips in them with my thrift store dresses and it can look cute.

Knee and thigh highs almost always don't fit super well- I think if I liked them more I'd try socks glue to make them stay up so I could get a cleaner look and not have to fuck with them all the time.

I think another reason is that maybe the cultures in the United States is different than in the United Kingdom or Japan, where it seems that women do tend to wear pantyhose, or sheer tights as they are called, more often than American women.
