If you want recs, provide as many criteria as possible: including sex, price range, seasons/weather, occasions, other frags/notes/accords you like/dislike, special conditions i.e. can easily be found in mall department stores, other ephemera i.e. personal style/aura you want to project, etc...
>>
At what point is there a discernible judgement in quality as far as scent is concerned? Will the average person know the difference between something that costs $10 and something that costs $100? As long as they perceive it to smell good?

I don't make a lot of money, and I can't really justify spending $60+ on small bottles of cologne (poorfag here).
>>
>>12203743
You can get really good colognes for cheap prices dude. There's honestly not really a strong correlation between price and how nice a fragrance is gonna smell to people around you
>>
>>12203743
Vid related https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FpAXT67GhNY
>>
>>12203743
as others said there are plenty of cheap fragrances that smell great
the only thing I've noticed is that as fragrances get cheaper they tend to have worse performance (not always true though)
but the main issue is that cheap fragrances are usually much more popular and so you won't smell as unique which is a big problem for me personally
examples of this include next code red, CK ONE, paco rabbane invictus, and BOSS bottled
all good smelling and mostly cheap but all very overworn in my area
>>
Is Midnight in Paris EDP too similar DHI?
Would it be redundant if I already have DHI?
>>
>>12204211
I have both, they're not similar. They're both more on the feminine side but that's it.
>>
I'm looking to pick up an Amouage, I've tried a few samples and the house produces some very interesting scents, very different from anything I have. Need a recommendation.

I have Creed MI and Royal Water, two of my favorite scents. I also like spicy scents like Spicebomb, as well as rose notes and resinous notes. I like sweeter scents, ones that are more complex and luxurious. I don't tend to love leather-type notes.

I am a 34 year old dude, if that helps. I am fairly well off and I kind of like to project that, but not in an overly garish, tacky way, y'know what I mean? I want people to think "oh, this dude must be doing ok for himself" not "this guy is an asshole who is trying way too hard to show off his wealth".
>>
>>12204211
Not similar at all. MiP is similar to Bulgari Black and 360º Black fM.
>>
>>12204864
Curious, why are you set on one particular house? Check out Homage if you can find it.
>>

Opinions on Burberry Brit Rhythm? Just got a 2ml.

Also can someone explain the whole spraying on wrist -> rubbing wrists -> rubbing on neck? Doesn't that mean that like half or more of the perfume is going to stay on my wrists? Or is that a good thing, having perfume project from your wrists when you move them around?
>>
>>12206003
my opinion is that you should try it out and see if you like it for yourself

My Black Aoud by Montale sample became yellow and it smells kinda weird unless I forgot what it actually smells like ... Can microorganisms grow in there???
>>
Does Aventus have a similar 'vibe' to sauvage?
>>
>>12205350
They produce some very unique and interesting scents. I like the resinous, incense-y notes many of their scents have. It's something different.

Homage looks interesting, but seems difficult to find. Might not be so easy to get.

>>12205368
>>12205486
Reflection seems like it might be a little too fresh and white floral-my for me. If I'm going with an Amouage, I kind of want something a little more exotic smelling. Doesn't need to be something I can wear for any occasion, I have that fairly well covered with Royal Water already.

well jubilation xxv then. certainly not an all occasion frag, but definitely exotic smelling
>>
>>12207232

Looked on their site, things that stick out to me:

Acqua Di Gio Profumo
Sauvage (Pretty big meme, but gets mad compliments)
Versace Eros (I like this a lot, some people hate it)
Lhomme & la nuit de lhomme (don't last long but are pleasing scents, la nuit is a good date scent, but is also a meme)

those ive smelt personally,

ive heard good things about 1million prive and Armani code profumo online

>>12207264
I sampled Jubilation, actually. I did like it, one to consider. Fate also looks interesting. I just ordered a sample pack off STC, has 9 of the men's Amouage fragrances. That'll probably help me make a decision.

It's a decant I bought off eBay. It allows me to spend 50 bucks on an ounce instead of 400 on a whole bottle, and I get to choose the batch I get so I don't end up with whichever one Creed happens to give me. It smells like the white monster cans taste, just a lil bit darker
>>
>>12207721
I don't know what the white monster cans are like, can you explain in another way? Thanks

Me again. After a little bit more Googling I found out that if the alcohol content is too low (e.g. 40% alcohol vodka) the oils won't mix well with the alcohol. So then I started looking into higher percentages of alcohol, and unfortunately my local liquor stores max out at 50% and don't carry Everclear (which is what a lot of perfumers use if they can't find perfumer's alcohol). I did find a solution called BioFlame in my nearest automotive store, which contains 95% ethanol (internet says it has 88% alcohol) and 5% isopropyl alcohol. Usually people avoid using isopropyl alcohol (e.g. rubbing alcohol) with their custom fragrances because of its strong smell, but since this is just 5% isopropyl alcohol I'm hoping that it wouldn't smell too much like rubbing alcohol (which is often upwards of 70% isopropyl alcohol).

Thankfully my glass spray bottles came in -- a pack of 6. So now all I need to do is get some of that ethanol-based solution and I can finally make some fragrances.

It's actually far more unisex than the marketing campaign behind it would suggest. It gets a bit overhyped by the same sort of person who overhypes aventus, but it is quite a nice frag. I'm not a big fan either of patchouli or gourmand notes, so it isn't for me, but if you like the way it smells, wear it with pride.

To be fair I only bought 3 of those. Their fragrances are all very natural smelling so I think that's nice, but over all I do agree the home scents are better. Tobacco Blaze is enjoyable for me, but I have a hard time finding an occasion to wear it outside of the house. It smells of apricot hookah tobacco, not the type of tobacco that you'd find in a western style tobacco perfume. Again, I like it, but I mostly wear it at home in the evening or to sleep. Cozy!

Ambergris Showers is harder to get a handle on. It's very green and herbal but warmly so, with something earthy lurking underneath. There is a musky sweetness that it shares with TB. Not bad, but kind of formal. I paid less than $40, which makes it a better value than a lot of the other bottles in the cabinet.

Women never talk to me at all but if one did I want to know if it's autistic to mention this.
>>

>I have a hard time finding an occasion to wear it outside of the house
This. It might have to alternate with EN as my super humid thunderstorm scent here in LA, which I did once to great success. So these bottles will last me many lifetimes if I keep to that pattern.
>>
Would it be worth getting some cologne for work when I get a job again? I'm most likely going to be a server so I don't want anything overbearing on guests, but want something nice, floral in spring and something spicy for summer and autumn.
Would Davidoff Hot Water for summer be a good starting cologne?

Eh, it's an interest. Interests aren't really autistic unless you're autistic about them. For me, it seems to be something women like. I always smell good, and I always have interesting fragrances to wear on dates. I've actually had girls I've dated comment that they were looking forward to seeing what I smelled like on our next date.

But overall, if you're not a sperg about it and don't make it your whole "thing", not interest or hobby is really autistic.

How do you find a fragrance that compliments your look without actually being able to smell it beforehand?
I live way out in the sticks (nearest mall, let alone any specialty stores, is 2 hours away) and would really like to get a good, signature scent.

Could anyone recommend something for someone who wears autumn/earth tone colors most of the time? Pretty "dadcore" despite being 24.

Could height affect which scent I get? ;_;7 Please help.
>>
>>12210379
Do research on fragrantica on basenotes and find some scents that you *think* you might want to smell like

Order samples of them from any links in the OP

Decide which you like and which you hate, try to pick out which specific notes you enjoy, try more samples until you find something you love so much that you would want to wear it all the time, then buy a bottle of that

I don't tell women that it's a "hobby". Sometimes they just notice that I smell good and comment about it or ask me what it is, then I just tell them the house name, like "Dior" or "Hermes". That's it, don't go harping about how it's a hobby.

>>12210066
If the conversation goes down that path, sure -
scents have the power to set my mood, it's this sort of accessory that has capacity to transmit a feeling - sometimes a lot more potently than anything visual. That quality makes them very appealing to me and finding ones I love makes me happy.

Beyond that let me just give you slight advice about women and people in general - don't hide the things you love because it makes you more 'digestible' for people, it just means you'll end up with people you don't really like while missing out on the ones who could've shared your passions.
>>
>>12210655

I think people who wear perfume obviously care more about their scent than the average normie and are thus likely to shower more frequently / practice better personal hygiene. Maybe you're still young and haven't recovered from middle school axe body spray and BO trauma, but grown adults enjoy smelling nice in addition to simply being clean.

Well, it's not really a hobby, but more of an interest. So I don't talk about it at all (it's never even come up anyways).

Yeah that topic never comes up, which is what I've been trying to tell you the last few posts, but you've been so busy shrieking "autism" that it all went over your head, ironically.
>>
>>12212453
literally has never come up? then i suggest you meet some people who aren't boring

I have, on multiple occasions, been asked what cologne I'm wearing by random strangers, let alone women I've been on dates with. Sometimes I get random dudes asking me because they want to know so they can buy it for themselves.

It absolutely comes up sometimes. I've never just launched into an unsolicited spiel about fragrances, but I've been asked many times. It happens.
>>
>>12212518
What do you wear that solicits these strangers asking you what you're wearing?

Exactly those are two different things, that are no mutually exclusive

one of the many fragrances out there that caught their attention
>>
>>12212533
Creed MI seems to be the biggest one. I've gotten inquiries from men and women about that one. Usually followed by a "damn" when they find out what a bottle'll cost them.

Also gotten it from Spicebomb, A* Men Pure Malt, and Royal Water. Probably others I'm forgetting as well.
>>
>>12212533
Several have gotten me compliments, it's also about approachability and how well the person knows you
>>
>>12211501
They are an amazing value, and can be had for $3.50-$6/roll on bottle. I have ten and like at least a couple: Choco Musk, Mokhalat Al Oud and Aseel. Silver approximates SMW but had a synthetic aspect that turns me of. And while my opinion of them is a bit more than >>12211521 who has apparently tried at least 154 of the 171 scents in Fragrantica's catalogue, I almost always wear them for myself and not out of the house. They are certainly not all Arabian nor animalic in nature. Many of them are trying to appeal to Western noses.

Bottom line, if you have an Islamic shop near you, go check them out and grab a couple with spare change, but don't get your hopes up.
>>
>>12207036
enjoy the one, it's one of my favorite frags but I made the mistake of buying the EdT which lasts like 1 hour, and all the reviews say the EdP is the same scent but with better longevity and sillage :(

19/m
i dress in all black mostly and I tend to keep to myself mostly
brands I wear alot are y-3, off-white, palace and raf simons
i listen to alot of ecco2k and i feel like i reflect that in my personality if that makes sense, like that detached, obscure and edgy aura is what i want to project
i bought a 25ml of CdG2 and I like the scent, should I cop a 50ml of it? i feel like the metallic ink note among what smells like flowers to me really matches my personality and the aura i want to project. does it match me or do you think I'm getting the wrong end of the stick on it?
price range doesn't matter much but I don't want to spend loads, the CdG fragrances are a good price point imo

Fragrancenet and fragrancex. Both have good prices, fragrancenet usually is best. Plus they've always got a 30% off deal that comes in handy
>>
>>12213411
Wow. This might be the one time where being Canadian might actually be better than being American in terms of shopping. Fragrancebuy.ca has significantly better prices than either of those sites, plus prices are in CAD.

They have 120 ml Creed bottles for like 220 CAD.

the problem that a lot of people dont ask these questions realize is fragrance is so subjective

some people have described amouage reflection man as being the 'christian grey' scent, it smells very cold and metallic but also very classy and upscale. (also floral like he wanted) if i told him to buy that, maybe hed have good luck with it going in with that mindset, but then i'd have people in this thread going YOURE RETARDED IT SMELLS VERY INVITING AND CHEERFUL

thanks guys, i know my description was terrible but i can't really describe what i want sorry
after some thought i think i'm gonna cop a bigger bottle of CdG2 i really love the scent, flowers and icy metallic is kinda what i want, to me it portrays detached and edgy so that's all that matters i guess
my friend told me it's way too feminine but i don't think i care
however i will try and find a sample of Narciso Rodriguez, read up on it on fragrantica and it seems interesting, i don't like the sound of musk and john lewis describes it as masculine which isn't really what i want but i'll give it a try for sure
thanks again ^_^

Amouage dude here. My samples have arrived. So far, Fate is a big no. Had to go scrub that stuff off me after ten minutes. Can't see that as being something I'd ever wear. I don't even know when someone would wear that.

Lyric is nice, though a little more subtle and less exotic than I though. Might consider it.

Jubilation, I've tried before and liked, but I think I like it even more now. The frontrunner for sure.

Also got a few Tom Fords. Liking Cafe Rose.

I'll sample the others later once I've let these sit a bit. See how they dry down.
>>
Pour Monsieur edt sample arrived today. I'm fifteen minutes into a wrist application and I'm not very excited. Pleased, but not excited. It's a lot nuttier in the dry down than expected. However, the more I smell it the more I seem to like it. There's a note in there that I love (something woody but soapy?) but I can only smell if I take a deep whiff of the thing. So far it interacts very well with my body chemistry.

Also, does anybody know if there's a fragrance that smells like scotch tape?
>>
I bought some samples recently. Should have them tomorrow to try out.

Tom Ford Japonais
Chanel Allure Homme Sport
Creed Millesime Imperial
Hermes Eau Mandarine Ambree
Acqua di Parma Colonia Leather
Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Malt

Anyone have an opinion on some of these?
>>
>>12216235
That should be Tom Ford Plum Japonais
>>
>>12215144
you can't, just use it in the toilet as air freshener, that's where that loud shit belongs
>>
>>12216235
Creed MI is fantastic. Very nice slightly salty marine orange scent. It's not overly sweet orange, it's almost like a rich burnt orange, smells very regal. Has some other fruit notes as well, almost a sort of light melon. One of my very favorite scents ever.

Pure Malt is interesting. It's a very strong, sweet, gourmand, kind of a caramel scent with whiskey notes. I have a bottle and I enjoy it, but it's not one of my top fragrances. People do seem to like it on me.
>>
>>12216280
That description of MI sounds pretty appealing. Pure Malt doesn't seem like something I'd like, but I figured I'd give it a shot. Haven't found any gourmands that I like much yet.
>>
>>12216280
>>12216310
MI is an excellent scent, but the projection and longevity both seriously suck

Wouldn't recommend copping unless it's a scent you absolutely fall in love with
>>
>>12216310
Well, give it a go. It is my favorite of the Thierry Mugler frags. It's nice, just not that versatile.

Creed MI, I don't see how anyone could not like it. Scent is very objective, but man, it's just objectively nice. Fruity, fresh, sweet but not too sweet, it just smells like money.
>>
>>12216315

>>12216280
>>12216319
Here

I partly agree. Longevity is questionable, though I still get at least 4-5 hours. Projection is fine to me. I've had girls tell me my cologne smelled very strong (in a good way). I imagine different batches are different in potency.

To me, it's worth it, though. If I have to reapply a couple times, I don't mind. It smells that good. By no means a dealbreaker for me.

I'd also suggest checking out Profumiere Ambra Spirituale II, but it seems like it would be hard to find that one. Also, I haven't actually tried it, it just fits the description.
>>
>>12215693
Hopefully you are the interviewer. I wouldn't recommend interviewees wear any sort of fragrance. And "worth it" is an entirely personal judgement. That said, IMO one cannot sample too much in this field. Not a big fan of Wonderwood, but I'm not you, so if you love it and can afford it, go for it.

>Will the average person know the difference between something that costs $10 and something that costs $100? As long as they perceive it to smell good?

The mechanics of the smells isn't very different. The materials can be (you won't find a lot of expensive sandalwoods and oud in cheap stuff, because the cost of creating the essence is high). Cheap is often associated with synthetic smells (esters) which tend to have a chemical or artificial scent at some stage. Same reason you can tell the difference between a banana flavoured candy (ester) and a real banana smoothie.

The average person will likely not give a shit.

Cheap scents tend to be either loud or middling (to please everyone). That's more a matter of taste but I hate both. I wear perfume for me.

>I can't really justify spending $60+ on small bottles of cologne

You can get by with the cheap stuff. But if you're interested in the mid or high end you can always buy smaller quantities than full bottles. Not something you'd put on daily, but save it for occasions.

You can really only tell by sniffing around for yourself. Go try things out and see what fits you, and remember that the scent on test paper is not the way it'll smell on you. If you find something that seems nice, ask for a spritz on your wrist and then take the time to see how it develops and how long it lasts.

This means you really can only test a couple of frags every time you visit a store. Best way though.

Voleur de Roses is a sort of cousin / progenitor to Montale Black Aoud. Three notes, rose-plum-patchouli. It's dark and dusky and earthy. If you combine Black Aoud and Voleur de Roses, you arrive at something very close to Bond No 9 New York Oud, which is a personal top five fragrance out of my collection of over 100 bottles. If you're sampling Bond also give New York Patchouli a sniff. Another personal top five and suitably dark.

The common "dark goth" scent recommendation given in this general is Encre Noire, which is an affordable blind buy at around $25. It's in the vetiver family and basically a vetiver-cypress bomb, so if you try EN and enjoy it, you have a new set of notes to explore in other fragrances.

Can someone rate my meme-core? Where do I go from here?

DN: Thought it was overwhelmingly macho at first but all my female friends seem to really like it so it's more often in my rotation now

For him: Really, really like it. This is a piece of genuine art. Really dark, depraved and post-modern. Too risque for work though.

Kyoto: Smells like a shinto temple or something. Really unique but after a while I get sick of the incense smell.

la nuit: Haven't used this much at all, bought it because of the hype. Too mainstream smelling for me.

Aventus: I was extremely hyped for this and it did not disappoint. Was absolutely amazed the first time I smelled it but for some reason, my perception of it changed after some time. It smells more sour and fruity to me now, can't really detect the fresh and salty ambergis anymore.

I used to use Crystal, which is good if you're an all-natural type or you have sensitive skin. They last forever too. I think jubi fits so does epic. Epic kind of smells like polo green so it very classy yet pleasing. jubi really smells like money. Reflection man is way too close to le Male. If you have to go niche of that kind, the buttery benzoin makes Pegasus the better scent. All that said, if you are going amouage just get interlude. It's the best and I'm a lawyer and I wear it to the office because I'm not retarded and can control my spray count. I don't think it's close to as challenging as people act like it is.

It's not anti-persperent

Be honest. Doesn't during just smell terrible? I hate that stuff.
>>
Ok so which scents do you guys think contain real Ambergris? Not including Creed because although the blurbed years and years ago, most of them smell like Ambroxan (use Molecule 2 as a reference point). BdP may have a small percentage of tincture that has been used alongside Ambroxan too. And if anyone wants to investigate, get Labdanum absolute too as it mimics Ambergris much more smoothly than Ambroxan.

No I love it it's dark and human like very sexy and animalic

Yeah, didn't like Fate. Smelled like straight cumin to me. Had to go scrub it off after like 10 minutes, couldn't stand it.

Wound up going with Jubilation >>12226379

hey I need help picking a scent. in the past I was always given citrus scents but I find them stale after awhile or too fruity.
I don't like the Smell of musk or leather.
I'm 24 male. work in sales and a farmer. need something that is subtle but leaves an impression on clients and southern belles. I'm a noob
>>
>>12229697
Dolce and gabanna the one EDP maybe?
>>
>>12229697
look into different fougere fragrances. they have bergamot usually, but that's the extent of the citrus, and no leather or musk.

mdci invasions barbare is like a grail fougere, although astronomically expensive
>>
>>12227799
well I bought it so it's obviously worth buying come on man read a book
>>
>>12226379
good luck actually wearing that in public; arab girls will salivate, other will be like "why does that guy smell like a spice market?'
>>
>>12230177
It's not for everyday wear. I have Creed MI and Royal Water for that. This is mostly for fancy shit.

That said, I did go out wearing it today and actually did have a (white) girl comment on how good I smelled.
>>
>>12230151
>so weird I might even use it as a room spray
that implies to me that it's too weird to wear, and when people blind buy a fragrance and they don't like it it's a meme to say that you'll use it as an air freshener
also you could be the kind of guy that will drop £75 on a frag you'll never actually wear and buy it just because it smells unique, but i'm certainly not that kinda dude, which is why I was asking if it was worth buying in the first place
>>
lads i bought CdG Black a couple weeks ago and i really like it, i'm not much into perfumes but i feel like it suits me and my clothing styles well, love the incense-y licquorice combination i get in the drydown.

was hoping to try odeur 53 / 71 but nowhere in melbourne (aus) seems to have it and luckyscent samples aren't very cheap unless i'm buying a whole bunch. hmm

desu senpai some fragrances have a "matching" deodorant counterpart. hit or miss, tho, and niche fragrances typically have no depdorant counterparts
>>
wtf, this smells more of tobacco rather than tea. Does this have any practicabilily other than being artsy

anybody tried Tom Ford Vert D'Encens?

Is there a fragrance you like that is widely considered to be shit tier? If so, what is her name?

Pic related for me.

Ephemera Noise and Bass are vomit and headache inducing.

Drone is nice though. I dont think theyre supposed to be good smelling fragrances as much as they are supposed to fit in an industrialist concept or something.

well I love it, and my coworkers also love it.

but yes it is weird. if you dont like smelling weird then don't get it.
>>
>>12230745
71 is better. 53 smells like a corporate office.

the thing about 53/71 is that they are more like environmental smells than a fragrance you would expect on a person. like if someone smelled you they would think it's just something in the air if that makes sense.
I do wanna pick up 53 at some point but 71 is definitely the better one imo

I did it /frag/, I bought pic related for personal use (I'm a dude). It was on the counter in the men's section of my Macy's next to the other YSL fragrances, and I sprayed it without looking closely at the bottle.

So my question is how long does it normally take to progress from wearing floral fruity perfumes to exclusively fapping to tranny porn / buying dragon dildos?
>>
>>12233444
They do look dumb as fuck and feel very cheap. Also more difficult to spray. I love Pure Malt and had to buy it, but goddamn do I hate that bottle.
>>
>>12234341
Well, you're gonna feel your testicles start to go numb in about two weeks. A few weeks later, you'll notice them begin to shrink as your penis atrophies. A few weeks after that, the whole package is going to start to wither and eventually fall off. This will likely happen in your sleep, so if you wake up one morning and find that your penis, which by now will resemble a small strip of beef jerky, is lying in your bed, don't be alarmed. This is normal. Your new vagina should grow in within the month. If this doesn't happen, go see a gynaecologist.

Fucking Thierry Mugler. Why the fuck would you design a bottle that essentially requires people to mutilate in order for it to be functional? He should just sell it in the little glass star bottles. You can actually buy just those as refills for a couple of his women's scents, they actually look kinda nice. Dunno why he has to put that ugly rubber shit around them, at very least make the flasks metal if he really has to be all artsy about shit.

My two favorite scents so far are Aventus and Terre d'Hermes Parfum

Would Guerlain Homme L'eau Boisee be a safe blind buy given that? Especially since it's only $35 or so

While we're at it can I have some of the best fragrances? I want to buy at least $80 worth of samples, around 3-4$ each so thats like 20 and i have 9 already
>>
Why do I never get compliments on my fragrances? I wear meme tier compliment getters and whenever I ask someone they always say I smell nice and aren't the kind to make that up. I'm outgoing attractive and get pussy but I never get unsolicited compliments.
>>
>>12236292
why are you seeking out compliments? how insecure are you
>>
>>12236292
What do you wear?
>>
>>12236292
It really depends on the people you spend time with

Contrary to what fragheads will tell you, most people do not give out unsolicited compliments, even if they love your scent

That affection manifests in a more pleasant demeanor, escalation, etc
>>
>>12236300
Because it feels nice. Confident people like compliments too. Plus I don't end up smelling it most of the time when it's on me, if I'm going out I'm just wearing it to be pleasant.

Hmm so under-application isn't the problem. Perhaps what you're wearing doesn't smell compliment-worthy on you. Perhaps these people are shy. Many possible reasons for lack of the 'ments.
