I use Vans for beaters and they have good quality and would last the same time as CP's if you get some leather version of Vans.

Authentics work best for more minimalist fits
Eras work best for more stylized casual fits

I have a pair of solid black authentics that I wear with black dickies and black socks and it looks great
But I wear my eras if I'm going to wear them with jeans because the silhouette just looks better that way

So just base it around what you normally wear
Also, buy some cheap air-pillo cut-to-fit insoles, because those will save your feet big time
