I cut down on coffee enough where my stomach won't get upset skipping breakfast (doing IF / 12pm to 6pm eating window).

Think it will help?

I hope this starts to fix my poor insulin sensitivity and raises my metabolism back. Lately I've been hungry and feeling cold, which someone told me is my BMR lowering rather than it just being less bodyfat. I'm not eating super little calories but watching that YouTube on IF yesterday seems you don't even need to for the metabolism to start fucking up.

Never had a problem with coffee during IF.
A lot of people say it suppresses your appetite, which makes it very helpful if you have trouble fasting.
I drink 1-3 cups during morning/early noon and usually eat between 5 and 7pm.

My slowing metabolism due to low calorie eating. What got me thinking about it was this:

>>12154451
For me it was giving me some uneasy feeling in my stomach. I just cut it down to one Nespresso per day, which is really all I should have anyways. Last week weaned myself down. I think the Nespresso is shit coffee too, which is part of the problem, but, it's what is at the office and I'm too lazy to want to wake up earlier and make my own.

If you're used to coffee it might help you to stop drinking it for a while until you loose the tolerance then start again
I don't think I've ever heard about coffee fucking with insulin sensitivity, it usually is just found to help weight loss in people who don't drink regularly
But it's possible it's literally just that I haven't heard

>For me it was giving me some uneasy feeling in my stomach
Yeah it's probably a good idea to stop either way, caffeine can be really bad for heartburns and such - if you didn't have problems there would be no point but since you do it's best to stop before it gets worse
I never drink coffee but I had to cut down on tea during IF and your stomach does calm down a bit after a while
+ like I said you develop tolerance to it, but you can reset it by stopping for a while (no clue how long since I never tried it, month would probably be ok)

He seems to back it up with research, and is hardly the only one saying the same thing. I'd love to see counter arguments though.

>>12154482
Oh I wasn't saying coffee was fucking up my insulin sensitivity, I meant eating all through the day was. What I've been experiencing is a slow down in my weight loss, which is normal as I get thinner, but apparently fasting can help keep the metabolism burning stronger because when insulin doesn't spike the body burns from the stored fat.

>>
>>12154435
wait, i thought IF was supposed to help your metabolism even if you didn't restrict that much?
>>
>>12154890
I think it is. The reason I'm doing it is because I'm struggling to eat little enough calories to keep progressing and I think my low calorie diet has slowed my metabolism. Apparently doing IF should hopefully make it where I can burn a bit more at rest and maybe increase my BMR a bit.

I think from over a year of restricted eating I've slowed my metabolism to a crawl. Part of that is I'm just smaller, but I've been reading/watching that it's not just that.
>>
>>12154903
oh, that makes sense. i was a little confused by your wording.

>>12154462
I watched a couple of his videos yesterday. The logic seems pretty sound but at the same time he says that CICO doesn't work and it's not your fault for getting fat or gaining the weight back after dieting, which is just not true. If someone else here is able to inform the effects of fasting on BMR without biased evidence that would be fantastic

On a side note I ate ~2k calories yesterday so I'm fasting today for the first time in my 6+ month diet. Wish me luck anons! ^_^

>>12154758
How long are you doing IF?
Give it a week or two

If it's hard to do maybe try easing into it, add an hour of fast every day or even every two days

>>12154943
>As a guy are women attracted to skinny guys or guys with some definition like me at the moment? Or just big dudes with muscles
It really depends on a girl honestly

I'm thinking about doing a ketogenic diet beginning on Friday. Anyone have any experience with it?
>>
>>12154989
Yeah it's okay in the short run bot otherwise kinda shit
>>
>>12154969
>>12154967
So would you say its a safe bet to stay how I am? I am not chubby and I an not Auschwitz skinny either.
>>
>>12155025
if you're not fat then don't lose the weight. why would you want to make yourself physically weaker if it's not for your own personal taste
>>
>>12154942
Yeah that also triggered me a bit, but really what he was saying was that what we do now has a high failure rate and there is science that shows a physiological reason why that is. I agree "it's not your fault" is toxic, but also I'm highly motivated and still would like my BMR to be as high as possible. If my resting expenditure can be higher, I'm all ears.

I agree though, we should keep checking on all of this.

Good luck on your fast.
>>
Does eating "zero-calorie" (celery, pickles, sugarfree gum, etc) foods affect IF? Also, if I squirted some lemon juice into my water this morning did that break my fast?

This is probably a stupid question but it's been a while since I took a bio class.
>>
>>12155114
Pickles and celery have a decent amount of calories. So does most sugarfree gum.
I don't usually count calories from these but for a fast you might want to stay under 10cal. (Or 30cal if it's a whole day).
>>
>>12154989
Personally, I got really bad keto flu every time I tried to the point where last time I had to stay in bed sick all day. However, I do know people who love ketogenic diets and who don't have a lot of trouble with them. I think one of the reasons why it's hard for me is that fruits and vegetables are a large staple in my diet, and I don't eat a lot of foods high in protein/fat.

tl;dr everyone is different. Give it a try and if it doesn't work try something else.
>>
>>12154989
From observing people I know, it seems to be most effective if you're really overweight and committed to reading up on it carefully. I'd suggest looking at the keto tags on IG to get a sense of what people eat daily and their results.
>>
>>12154942
>and it's not your fault for getting fat or gaining the weight back after dieting, which is just not true.
I think what he's really saying is that the diets that are promoted are wrong: eat a bunch of little small meals throughout the day. The average "mealcuck" is continually burning glucose rather than fat because they keep their feedings so often. They will spend most of the day trapped in a cycle of eating every few hours, spiking glucose, and then becoming hungry when blood sugar drops. CICO still holds true, and you can certainly get thin while still having insulin resistance, but just be miserable in the process because you're body will make you feel super hungry all the time because it's gotten so used to craving that glucose. So as soon as they run out of glucose from their last meal, instead of seamlessly transitioning to the fasted state and mobilizing and burning stored body fat, they become hungry for more glucose instead (from carbohydrates).

With intermittent fasting, you can improve your insulin resistance and get to where your body is better at accessing the fat stores to burn energy, rather than it holding on to grab on to new glucose - signalling your brain to be hungry all the time.

Low carb diets do the same thing really, but I find fasting a lot easier.
>>
>>12155012
>>12155147
>>12155151
Thank. I'm not overweight but definitely trying to shed off at least ten pounds. I'll do some more research on it and give it a try! Thanks again anons
>>
>>12154989
Good for short term weight loss, bad for long term because of damaging effects on the body.

Lose a certain amount then get off it.
>>
Not trying to shill IMF but I'm on my third or so week of it and I find that it really shows you how much of your hunger is real and how much of it is just your body accustomed to eating at certain times. Even if fasting isn't your thing, I think I'd really recommend it as an intro to weight loss/healthy eating.

>>
>>12155201
I think some of that is as your body gets better at grabbing energy from your fat stores rather than just glucose, you get the hungry signals less. It seems to take a few days to see the improvement, but then it's amazing how the morning hunger seems to dissipate.

On weekends I've been having breakfast for social reasons, but I keep it no carb so that I keep that insulin under check still.

Yeah, morning hunger was my biggest problem so fasting has worked miracles on my diet overall. Since I lost the first 25-30lbs by eating a donut for breakfast and almost nothing else I developed intense cravings for sweets as soon as I wake up, and it's finally going away.

Thanks for that first bit, I really need to read up more on insulin and fat storage and all that.

I just wanted to try it out. I'm not a chronic masturbator or porn-obsessed, usually I fap once a week. Bit curious to see if I don't fap for two weeks and then have a nice long edging fap session if the resulting orgasm will be amazing. The main reason I only fap once a week is for the better orgasms, so, going to see if two makes them better. Quality over quantity.

I'm a bit afraid of having a wet dream though. What a fucking mess and then it would ruin my huge two week backlog of jizz. So, hoping that doesn't happen.

I've been doing IF for months and I've started restricting down to 500 for the past couple weeks, but anytime I try to have a fast day, my body gets way too heavy and I get too tired. Even with vitamins and lots of water. What's up with that? I can do a whole 24 hours since last eating, but I will still feel like I absolutely need to eat before I fall asleep that day. Maybe I'm just not completely used to it yet. I used to fast once a week just fine when I ate normally, but I guess my body isn't used to restricting so much PLUS the occasional fast. Anyway, here I go again. I can do it this time. Just need to keep myself occupied and drink coffee when I need to

Not /cgl/ or a girl, but, just curious, is /thinspo/ often applicable to cosplay? Like people will become super skinny so their costume works?

Absolutely. There's a lot of crossover with cosplayers and "body positive" SJW but traditionally the ideal body for both lolita and cosplay is thinspo. Just look at Anzu.

If you're trying to lose weight, especially via intermittent fasting and/or ketosis, fruit is the enemy. Actually, anything high in fructose is the enemy due the way to liver metabolizes it.

First, the liver prioritizes fructose to refill its glycogen stores. Full liver glycogen = ketosis shuts off, bodyfat lipolysis is inhibited.

Second, if liver glycogen is full, the rest of fructose you eat is converted to fatty acids via de novo lipogenesis and exported into the blood stream. If your muscular tissue and organs aren't used to oxidizing FFAs for energy (probably not if you're a glucose-burning burger-american), then those FFAs end up in your adipose tissue i.e. fat ugly belly and thighs.

Other types of sugar CAN be converted to fat via the same path, but are not obligated to.

>>12156803
So CICO is always true, but can be misleading sometimes. To access energy that you put into it in the form of calories, your body needs to USE energy. This is called the Thermic Effect of Food.
The point of Keto (and maybe IF? I know very little about it desu) is that the thermic effect of protein is greater than the thermic effect of carbohydrates. This means your body puts more energy in to get the same energy out, effectively netting fewer total calories despite technically eating the same number. This also boosts your metabolism (due to how hard your body is working just to get energy from your food) and may/may not make your body preferentially target fat (I've heard different things about this so it might be bullshit but i really don't know).
Basically, CICO is still right, but keto helps raise your TDEE by making your body work harder for the same amount of energy. It's kind of sneaky

>>12156876
>The point of Keto (and maybe IF? I know very little about it desu) is that the thermic effect of protein is greater than the thermic effect of carbohydrates.
The point of Keto and IF are actually pretty similar. With Keto, you are in a psuedo-fasted state where insulin doesn't spike because of the lack of carbohydrates. There is more fat and less glucose available even after eating with Keto. With fasting, there is simply no food so insulin is low and so the body starts using fat cells for energy rather than glucose it would have otherwise.

In fact, you could do something like IF Warrior Diet (20:4) and Keto at the same time and really maintain that glucose depletion without doing more difficult multi-day fasting.

>Why are you all trying to make life complicated?
It's easier actually, for a lot of people dieting is hard and little shit like that can add up to making it much simpler (for example I always get headaches if I eat simple carbs then go back to fasting so if I cut down on them the diet becomes more bearable - even though I'd live exclusively on white bread and rice if I could)

Plus it's fun, I think a lot of anons here are a bit obsessed with dieting or actually have EDs so they're naturally drawn to optimization

If a simple diet works for you then great for you, other people have different needs

That's actually not surprising at all. Fat people call themselves "picky eaters" for not eating anything that didn't come from a bit of bubbling canola oil as an excuse for why they don't eat their fucking spinach.

It's the same reason why the "I'm fat because I just love food" excuse is bullshit as well, because if you loved food you wouldn't literally smother yourself in the grossest shit, and if you were smothering yourself in a variety of foods including leafy greens you wouldn't feel the urge to eat all the time and therefore would not be fat

This is why IF just works. Keep postponing your first meal until it becomes dinner, than you can stuff yourself with food and not be hungry, yet still net a caloric deficit (it helps if you're eating healthy fats, proteins, and veggies instead of shitty nutrient-void carbs)
>>
>>12158353
I actually like almost mostly stereotypical healthy food (with the exception of most fruit), I just used to be a massive binge eater + eat a ton of grains (I like really bland things and the only bland stuff are grains and vegetables)
At some point it just doesn't matter that I prefer eggplant to cake especially if I combine it with pasta or roast it with a ton of olive oil - CICO goes both ways
Though a lot of "healthy" stuff is really high in fat like avocados - it's not that hard to overeat on them I think even if you're a regular person with non-disordered eating

But yeah from what I've seen most other picky eaters like weird shit like french fries and candy, there are a lot of people with ARFID who have tons of heath problems from not eating stuff yet also are fat as fuck, it's amazing - always thought they'd all be skinny since it resembles anorexia in how they can't force themselves to eat, but they just make up for it by overeating what they can

Nah, that should be fine. It's more losing drastic amounts over short periods, and the way you go about doing it.
I lost 28lb over a couple of months by purging, and what little I did eat was junk food - cookies, sweets. It messed up my liver and bile production which lead to gallbladder issues and gallstones because I wasn't using the bile stores in my gallbladder to digest food so it turned into stones instead :(

abs are a mix of losing weight in the area and building muscle.

>>
>>12158813
Yeah, I have higher bf% and visible abs. I've been lifting for a few years, though.

My bmi was 19.5 at my highest weight and I looked chubby. I look thin at a bmi <18.
>>
>>12158813
It's hard to tell how much body fat is around your abdomen in that picture but I'd think you could with work. really most people can with work. try core exercise and see where that takes you. If it's not looking how you want after you've built up a lot of muscle there, consider losing fat weight.

Recovering anorexic-binge subtype here. I'm having trouble with cutting down on my habits. I'll either eat way too much and break my no binge cycle, or attempt to keep it all in, which will eventually make me gain- actually considering one of those shock bracelets so I can get into the habit of breaking bad habits.

With a bad habit, really.

not the same anon but I'm guessing it works in a self-punishing manner. where you know what you're doing is wrong(like thinking about a binge). When you recognize this behavior in yourself, you manually shock yourself. Kind of how some people wear rubber bands on their wrists and snap them when they want to curb a bad behavior.

Does drinking watered down apple juice and tea count as eating?
I'm intermittent fasting, I eat @2pm and 4pm and I'm not hungry for the rest of the day. I feel like eating something, but I don't feel hunger.

Am I fucking up by this juice calories or it's ok to not feel hungry?
>>
>>12159452
Juice has sugar in it. Avoid it during your fasting periods and only drink it during your eating window.

It's normal to feel less hungry when you do IF, because you don't get the crazy insulin spikes you get when you are a mealcuck.

>>12159457

what do i do if i want to be thin but still sort of muscley like pic related? is it just up to genetics? most of the <1000kcal diets here feel like they'd lead to my muscle wasting away even if it'll make me lose fat
>>
>>12159672
resistance exercise, try to make the caclories you do eat 'quality' ie fats and proteins and minimal carbs and ZERO sugars. you still lose muscle while youre losing fat though, its unavoidable

what bmi did you guys have to get to before you had really visible collarbones? im at 21 right now but my collarbones are still just barely visible, which is weird since you can already see my ribs while i'm standing up
>>
>>12159701
kek, being soft and squishy is my nightmare. i want my stomach to be small and tight
>>
>>12159705
bmi =/= bone structure. I'm at a low 22 and my collarbones and sides of my ribs are visible, and I used to have a (literally, medically) obese roommate whose hips were naturally so wide set that her hipbones stuck out.
>>
>>12159713
damn. well my goal is bmi 18 so hopefully i'll be enough of a skelly by then that they'll be visible even with shit bone structure

>>12159369
Everytime I overate, or even when I had sweet things within my limited intake- it felt like I was getting away with something or breaking a streak, even if it was all well and done at the end of the day. It happened mostly on weekends, if not guaranteed then, and once or twice during weekdays. Finger/s/entire hand + hot tea.

>>12159421
>>12159401
Right; it's negative conditioning, but you still gotta have the initiate to one, buy it, and two, actually press it when you know you're being tempted. I'd be hyped for one that shocks you automatically for certain behaviors, but it'd probably be extremely easy to mix up punishable habits with good habits.
>>
How do you IFers keep food out of your mouth. I dont mind hunger feelings but i just like the taste and need something in my mouth
>>
>>12159810
for me it was about 50% willpower, 10% laziness to go out of my way to find a snack, 40% buying a 1L water bottle and drinking out of it constantly

today I got that feeling of wanting a taste in my mouth too so I put some splenda in my black coffee and had a diet coke with my one meal of the day. sparkling water, water flavoring, and tea help me a lot too.

>>
How much water do you guys drink on a daily basis?
>>
>>12159810
I have this problem too, if I can't get rid of the feeling using flavored water, tea, or coffee I will try eating something super slowly and drinking water heavily with it to make the taste linger as long as possible. It takes a short while to resist but eventually you'll start to feel good about resisting food.
>>

This is a sugar free chocolate that tastes AMAZING for being sugar free. I fed it to one of my friends and they couldn't tell it was sugar free.
If you're trying to loose weight this is 240 calories for THE WHOLE FUCKING BAR OF CHOCOLATE AND IT ACTUALLY TASTES DANK.
>expensive as shit tho
>>
>>12159810
I drink a lot of water and chew random things like buttons and drawing pins
>>
>>12160014
Like...you could also buy a normal bar of dark chocolate and eat one or two squares at a time. I feel like learning portion control would be much more useful in the long run than magic chocolate, but that's your business
>>
>>12160014
>If you are trying to lose weight, stop eating chocolate and other shit thats bad for you

>>
>>12160026
>>12160030
I personally like it to avoid sugar spikes and I typically don't eat more than a square or two at a time during the rare occasion to I do have it.
I was just giving it as an option to someone who seemed like they were struggling. I figure it's better to eat this and not feel so bad than to eat a bunch of recess and spit them out.
>>
>>12160038
That lack of selfcontrol is exactly why people stay fat
>>
>>12160014
ah desu the reeses i ate were only 220 for two. (unless that bar is larger than it appears). Normally i use coffee to suppress my chocolate cravings but this time i wanted something sweet.
